“Shouto, can you bring me the bleach?” Izuku calls over his shoulder. “I forgot to grab it before I put the gloves on.”
“So forgetful,” Shouto says, rolling his eyes fondly as he tossed the bottle into the bathroom. “Don’t take too long, Izu. There’s only one bathroom here, and we’ve all got to dye our hair, since you insisted we all cosplay, and wait until the last minute so the color wouldn’t fade.”
“You agreed, didn’t you?” Izuku retorts. “Besides, it’s gonna look super cool tomorrow.”
“Still, you have to admit it’s rather inconvenient,” Shouto says, shrugging.
“It’s worth it, though,” Hitoshi interjects. “The sheer fucking chaos is gonna make this amazing.”
Izuku laughs. “They kind of expect it from me, but no one expects this kind of thing from either of you, which just makes it that much funnier.”
“Exactly,” Hitoshi says, immensely satisfied with himself. Suddenly, he thrusts out his hand. “And you forgot to grab a towel, by the way. Do you want to stain your skin?”
“No,” Izuku says, properly chastised, grabbing the towel from his outstretched hand. “Thanks for grabbing it, Toshi.”
“No problem,” he says, bending down to kiss Izuku on the cheek. “Love you. Now hurry up so Shou and I can have a turn.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Izuku laughs, turning back to the mirror. “Feel like helping? It’ll go quicker,” he sing-songs.
“Sure,” Hitoshi says, coming up behind him. “Give me the bleach?”

“Thank you so much!” Hiro exclaims, dropping their change back in the tip jar. They scoop up their hand-drawn ( hand-drawn!) poster and practically run out of line so the next person can buy their stuff.
Once out of the way, Hiro holds it out to admire once again. It’s a rather grandiose poster, but that’s what drew them to it. Small Might is the centerpiece, standing in the now-iconic pose he’d held at Kamino. The students of Class 3-A surround him, although a select four are in front, leaping out from behind his silhouette. Heroes-in-training Deku, Ground Zero, Uravity and Shouto are right alongside All Might, in costume except for their helmets and face coverings, which are nowhere to be seen. The rest of Class 3-A stands in the background, tense and ready to fight.
It’s the most badass thing Hiro’s ever seen, and he can’t believe someone actually drew this.
A person behind them stifles a chuckle, and Hiro turns around, embarrassed.
“Sorry, I must’ve been mumbling–” they start, only to cut off when they see just who is laughing at them. “Shouto-sama! I’m even more sorry oh my gosh, I’m–”
“It’s okay,” Shouto interrupts cheerfully. “I have the same habit– of mumbling, I mean. And every convention I go home with at least three new posters, so I definitely get the appeal.”
Hiro gapes. “Wow, really? That’s so cool, Shouto-sama!”
“Yes,” says a stranger, standing in-between the other two. “So cool.”
Shouto elbows him. “Sho– Hitoshi, don’t be sarcastic!” Turning back to Hiro, he adds, “I’m sure my friend here wasn’t laughing at you. It’d be very unheroic, right, Hitoshi?”
“He was just laughing at our good friend Shouto,” Deku says slyly.
The stranger in the middle– Hitoshi, apparently– just says, “Yep.”
Hiro just nods slowly, trying not to show their confusion. The conversation itself has taken a… weird turn, and the emphasis they’re placing on each other’s names is odd. Hiro’s heard that hero students are weird, but they’ve never quite experienced it in person.
“Well, it was nice to meet you three, but I really must get going,” Hiro says, awkwardly inching away.
“Nice to meet you too,” Shouto exclaims, smiling widely. Hiro squints, noticing four distinct freckles on either cheek.
“I didn’t think you had freckles, Shouto-sama,” they say slowly.
Shouto freezes. “Uh…”
“Did you really forget the concealer?” Deku asks, leaning forward pointedly. “After I took such great pains to hide my eyebags?”
“I didn’t forget,” Shouto squeaks, “I just, uh. I think it came off?”
Hitoshi sighs. “ Izu ,” he says sternly, and Hiro glances over at Deku but it seems like he’s talking to Shouto, which is odd, to say the least. Hitoshi reaches deep into his pocket and pulls out a small concealer kit. “At least I came prepared, I guess.”
“Thank you, thank you, thank you!” Shouto squeals, and pecks Hitoshi on the cheek. He runs off, and Hiro just kind of… watches him go.
“Well, bye,” they say awkwardly. “See ya.” They tuck their poster under their arm and speed-walk off.
As they leave, they hear Deku remark, “That couldn’t have gone any worse, could it?”

“Shouto-sama? Excuse me, Shouto?” Izuku startles and nearly decks someone in the face when they tap his shoulder. They scream, “Ah!”
“Oh my goodness, I am so sorry,” Izuku apologizes profusely. “I didn’t hear you coming and you startled me, sorry.”
“It’s okay, Shouto-sama,” one of the boys says, and smiles reassuringly. He’s dressed up as Ojiro, and the fake tail shakes as he speaks. His friend is dressed up as Tokoyami, and he’s got a fake Dark Shadow attached on the back, which is adorable . “All's well that ends well, yes?”
“Yeah,” Izuku agrees with him, only now realizing why he didn’t notice them. The real Shouto and Hitoshi are off in the food court, and Izuku forgot that he’s Shouto for the day. Focusing his attention back on the pair in front of him, he apologizes again. “Still, sorry about that. Is there anything I can do to make it up to you?”
“You could take a selfie with us,” the fake-Tokoyami suggests earnestly. “It’s not everyday we see a hero-in-training, right?”
“What do you mean?” Izuku says slyly. “We’re classmates, aren’t we?” The trio share a laugh, then line up to take a selfie with fake-Ojiro’s phone.
Afterwards, they thank him profusely.
Izuku waves them off. “Of course! Sorry again for earlier.”
“It’s no problem,” fake-Tokoyami says sincerely. “It would’ve been an honor to be punched by you, Shouto-sama.”
“If you say so,” Izuku says, laughing awkwardly.
“What’s going on here?” the real Shouto says from behind Izuku.
“Oh! Sh— uh, Hitoshi! Our classmates here wanted a selfie,” Izuku says, wiggling his eyebrows to communicate he doesn’t really think these two are their classmates.
Speaking of the aforementioned two, they look about ready to faint.
“Deku-sama,” fake-Ojiro gasps as Hitoshi comes up behind Shouto. “Is it really you?”
“Yep,” Hitoshi says, flashing his signature baby-eating smile. Izuku mentally facepalms. “Nice to meet you two. Are you fans?”
“Yes! The biggest!” they gasp. “We almost cosplayed you guys for HeroCon, but thought there’d be too many duplicates.”
“You’re way too nice,” Hitoshi says, but his eyes shine. They zero in on the enamel pin the Tokoyami cosplayer wears. “Awesome pin! Where'd you get it? I want to see if they have any of the rest of my classmates,” he adds after a moment, much to Izuku’s relief. He is not that dedicated to finding his own merch. Finding his classmates’ on the other hand…
“It was in the middle of the shops on the right wall, up by the vendors’ market,” fake-Tokoyami says. “I think it was between a Midnight stand and a HeroCon general merch stand.”
“It was called Rising Stars ,” fake-Ojiro adds helpfully.
“Oh, awesome,” Hitoshi says brightly. “Thanks so much!”
“No problem! Really, thank you,” fake-Tokoyami says. “Have a great day.”
“You too,” Izuku says. Shouto just waves. The two cosplayers make their exit, and Hitoshi and Shouto slump into their seats with relief.
“Finally,” Hitoshi sighs. “No offense, Izu, but being you is exhausting. ”
“None taken, as long as you share some of those waffle fries,” he responds with a grin. Hitoshi groans, but obligingly shares. Shouto gives him a meaningful look, and Hitoshi groans louder but gives in.
“Absolute menaces, the both of you,” he seethes with no real malice.
Izuku laughs and pats his hand. “Don’t worry, Toshi. I’ll pay you back later.”
“Sure you will,” Hitoshi says, unconvinced.
Shouto snorts, Izuku glares at him, and lunch goes on. They enjoy their precious few moments of peace between the chaos.

Yamamoto Takao sighs to himself, impatiently drumming his fingertips across the counter. His shop, Rising Stars , has been set up since 03:00 this morning, when he arrived over three hours early to HeroCon.
Set up for shit-all, apparently. He’s had barely a dozen customers– none in the past hour – and it’s already 14:00. Takao glances over his shoulder again.
He spent hundreds of dozens of hours working on these prints– a select few being painted by hand, but the rest drawn digitally.
That took endless time and energy, while finding and hiring someone to actually reproduce the drawings took that plus money.
For all of his hard work to result in barely a glance?
It stings; more than Takao cares to admit.
‘Maybe I should just pack up early,’ he thinks to himself with a sigh. He slaps the closed sign down on the counter, spins around on the too-short stool and stands up.
Of course, that is the very same moment that Deku and Shouto approach, with a third person in tow.
“Excuse me, sir,” Shouto calls frantically. “I’m so sorry to bother you, but– please, can we have just five minutes to look around? We walked here as fast as we could, but there are so many people here, and we were trying not to be rude, and–”
“Of course!” Takao interrupts, running his hands through his hair. “Oh my god, yes, please look around. Holy shit, yes. Take as much time as you need, seriously.”
“Thank you!” the three chorus in unison, eyes gleaming with excitement.
Takao can only watch as they swarm his tiny booth, stepping closer to get a good look at everything behind the counter, and inspecting the baubles he has hung up around its border.
Deku and the stranger both buy three or four items— more than Takao ever could’ve asked for in the first place— and Shouto buys ten.
“Are— are you sure you want all of these?” Takao checks. He’s loath to dissuade Shouto, of all people, from buying his products, but, well. He doesn’t want the hero-in-training to regret it.
“I absolutely am,” he says confidently. Shouto hesitates, then blurts, “Would you sign it all?”
“I— yes. If you really want–”
“Believe me, he does,” Deku interrupts, placing his free hand on Shouto’s shoulder. “And while we’re on the subject, if you really don’t mind, would you sign mine?”
“And mine as well,” the stranger adds.
Takao stares, awestruck that these badass heroes want his signature, and agrees.
Could he really do anything else?
As he watches the trio walk off, he has to ask himself: ‘Did that really just happen?’
Imagine if he’d packed up five minutes earlier.

“Now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for! Give a warm welcome to two of Yuuei’s rising stars!” the host, Yamamoto says, gesturing grandly to where Shouto, Izuku and Hitoshi enter.
They wave to the audience– there’s a shockingly large gathering, and from his friend’s confused faces Hitoshi can tell that neither of them were expecting this. He was a little more prepared, having stalked the comments on his friends' accounts beforehand, but it’s still surprising to have this much positive attention directed at him, even if he really doesn’t deserve it.
Once they reach center stage they each receive a microphone, and then the fun part begins.
“Great to have you here, boys,” Yamamoto says warmly. “Would you mind introducing yourselves?”
“Oh, sure,” Izuku agrees, stepping forward. “My hero name is Shouto, I use he/him pronouns, and I’m a trainee at Yuuei. I’m super excited to be here!”
“I’m Deku,” Hitoshi says, “I use he/him pronouns, and I go to Yuuei. Thanks for having me.”
“I’m Searchlight,” Shouto says, deliberately using a hero name Hitoshi decided against early on. “I use he/him pronouns and I go to Yuuei.”
He leaves it at that, and Yamamoto waits an awkward second before brushing past it. “Nice to meet you guys! We’re glad to have you all here today! Let’s hear some noise, yeah?”
The crowd screams in response, and the trio flinches.
Yamamoto doesn’t seem to notice. “Are you boys ready to open up the Q&A?”
“Whenever you are,” Izuku confirms, while Hitoshi and Shouto exchange devious glances.
The crowd clamors and screams for a microphone, and eventually the first person is selected. “This is a question for all three of you,” he starts. “Which was your favorite sports festival?”
“Ooh,” Izuku hisses. “That’s a tough one. Uh. Deku, could you start us off?” He makes a face, and it’s clear he hates referring to himself in the third person.
Hitoshi shoots him a glare then smiles. “Sure thing, Shouto . My favorite sports festival was my first year. It was really fun! I may have broken all of my bones, but fourth place was worth it.”
Silence.
“Wow, Deku. Who would’ve expected?” Shouto says. He turns to the crowd, then announces, “I’ve lost the sports festival every year, so I don’t feel qualified to pick.”
There are a few groans of disappointment from the crowd, but seeing as no one knows who Searchlight is, there’s no massive protest.
“That leads us to you, Shouto,” the host prompts.
He groans. “Hmm. That’s a hard question, since I’ve gotten second place every year. I’m very consistent,” he informs the crowd, sparking a few laughs. “I think I’ll have to settle on this year’s festival, though. The shoulder-racing was really very fun.”
“How unexpected!” Yamamoto exclaims. The young man who asked the question thanks them for their time, and the microphone is passed on.
They answer banal questions about their favorite colors, living at the dorms, and opinions on Lunch Rush’s cooking.
Then, someone asks something Hitoshi can’t answer.
“You were one of the first to work with Lemillion besides his classmates, Deku! Did anyone think he’d climb the ranks so quickly?”
“Er,” Hitoshi hesitates. Izuku nods at the corner of his eye, and he blurts, “Yes! He was. He was so cool, y’know? Like. Everyone knew he was gonna do great. He was a good guy. I still talk to him sometimes, I think.”
“You think?” the questionee repeats dubiously.
Hitoshi’s gaze darts to Izuku, who shrugs and makes a face, as if to say, ‘You dug your own grave.’ Hitoshi groans.
“I, uh. I know!”
He wipes the sweat off his cheeks.
Someone in the crowd yells. “Deku! Your freckles! They’re gone!“
“Uh, no they’re not,” Hitoshi denies.
“They are!” Yamamoto says. “Tell me, if you’re Deku, then why is one of your eyes purple?”
“It is?” Hitoshi says dumbly. “Oh, shit.”
“Hi— Izu— Searchlight,” Shouto scolds, ignoring the crowd’s gasps in the background. “When’d you knock it out?”
“Just now, apparently,” he says sullenly.
Yamamoto blinks. “Wait. Searchlight?”
“Yep,” Hitoshi sighs. “That’s me.”
“I’m really Shouto,” he says.
“And I’m Deku.”
“Wait, I— hold up,” Yamamoto says. “You mean to tell me that— you guys cosplayed as each other? And tried to trick all of HeroCon?”
“We were going to reveal it eventually,” Shouto says. “But yeah, basically.”
The crowd practically riots at Shouto’s admission, and Hitoshi doesn’t even fault them for it. He did say he was only in it for the chaos, after all.
