Work Header

double take

Summary:

Robin has a reputation around Hawkins for being a player. Nancy is still recovering from the aftermath of Jonathan dumping her. She turns to Robin to distract her.

Notes:

Writing this has been so fun. I'm obsessed with Nancy and Robin right now and this has been my outlet. This takes place in modern day time and is basically a world without the supernatural. Just a regular town with regular people. Chapter lengths with vary, but I'll try to post as often as possible.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Robin was well aware of her reputation. Good luck finding someone at Hawkins High School who wasn't. Girls from all sorts of social cliques would gossip about their experiences with her, whether they had actually happened or not. Allowing people to believe false rumors was never intentional, but Robin wasn’t exactly setting any records straight.

The first girl she ever kissed was Barb. They were thirteen and it didn’t really mean much other than they both were very obviously gay. Then around high school, the dating pool expanded with more people realizing that they were queer and automatically gravitating towards Robin who had been out since she hit middle school.

She considered the idea that she may just be a safe space for people wanting to figure things out. Most of the time, that meant making out or something equally as innocent. There was never any pressure, she only did what was asked of her, and she was great at keeping a secret.

The first girl she actually had sex with was Tammy, their junior year of high school. Robin had pined after her for years before they ever actually dated. Robin still held a soft spot for her in her heart because that one was a big deal to her. Tammy was her first love. Robin wasn’t her first anything, but that meant Tammy could teach Robin a thing or two while they had their time together. And Robin realized she was a fast learner.

Tammy went back to dating boys after about six months of dating Robin, and that breakup was brutal. Robin practically swore off of relationships for good, that’s how traumatizing it had been for her.

Luckily for her, other girls were interested in what Tammy no longer wanted, and Tammy had spoken highly of her time with Robin and her performance in bed, probably out of guilt for the way she’d handled things at the end.

The second girl Robin ever hooked up with was Chrissy. She was one of the most popular girls in school and a true gossip. For Chrissy, it was her first time with a girl, but she wasn’t shy about asking for it. And Robin knew exactly how to handle her.

By the time Robin arrived at school the morning following their hookup, everyone was talking about it. Chrissy had blabbed all over about how good Robin was. About how crazy Tammy was for going back to boys because everyone knew that was downgrading in terms of sex.

Robin wanted to be mad about it, but how could she be? It was doing wonders for her ego, and the more attention she got from other girls, the less she thought about Tammy. Her and Chrissy hooked up a few more times over the months to follow, but it never got serious.

Chrissy met someone else (a boy, despite her opinions about Tammy doing the exact same thing) and moved on. Robin wished her well and they still made small talk whenever they crossed paths at school. She wasn’t attached to her, but craved another distraction from Tammy who she never was prepared to truly let go of.

Barb approached Robin soon after things with Chrissy stopped, but she wasn’t interested in hooking up. She’d heard the rumors about Robin and wanted some pointers. Apparently she was moving away and planned on getting a girlfriend as soon as she was in a bigger city.

Robin gave her some sound advice, wishing her luck. It was the last time they would ever see each other again before Barb moved away.

Barb leaving made Robin think about Nancy Wheeler. She didn’t know her well - didn’t know her at all, actually - but she knew her and Barb were best friends. She wondered what would become of Nancy now. Too bad Nancy wasn’t gay, because Robin always thought she was beautiful. But that was only an afterthought, nothing to focus more than a moment's attention to.

Third to enter Robin’s sex life was Vickie. They were in band together and Vickie was a sweet girl. They got along well, spent a lot of time together, and when Vickie asked if it was cool if they hooked up, Robin told her that it was.

Vickie was a virgin, much like Robin had been before Tammy. She was shy and awkward at first, but Robin didn’t mind it. She never wanted to judge, the same way she never wanted to be judged.

Vickie told other people about it. Close friends she probably thought would keep their mouths shut, but didn’t. She had spoken highly of Robin’s performance in bed, too. It only spurred the rumors further. As far as Hawkins was concerned, Robin was extremely skilled.

By the time she was a senior, the rumors were out of control. Girls Robin had never even spoken to before claimed they had hooked up and it was amazing. Girls from band, the cheerleading team, theater, the debate team. It was endless.

The first time Robin heard something that wasn’t true about herself, she considered shooting it down. But the narrative remained the same, so she let it slide. Now, she was in too deep to start denying everything. She’d lost track of who was saying what.

Besides her sex life, she had grown a lot as a person. She got a job, working with Steve Harrington, nonetheless. He was her best friend now, and a total dingus. She got to know the kids Steve hangs around with all the time, finding acceptance from them so gratifying.

She also got to know Nancy Wheeler a bit more. After things with Steve didn’t work out and Jonathan dumped her seemingly out of nowhere, Nancy changed a lot, too. Robin didn’t know her before, but she could tell she wasn’t the same.

Something about Nancy had hardened. She was more careful when she spoke, she didn’t do anything she wasn’t absolutely certain of. Her relationship with Steve had turned entirely platonic. That’s solely why Robin got to know her a bit better, since speaking to Nancy under any other circumstances didn’t make sense. They were from two completely different worlds.

Nancy never opened up to her. She kept everyone at arm’s length, really. Robin knew she was dying to get out of that town. So was she. Who wasn’t?

There were times when Nancy looked at her like she was trying to decide if she liked her or not. Times when she seemed to be watching Robin so closely, Robin had to hold her breath until Nancy finally looked away.

Robin didn’t know how Nancy felt about her being gay. She assumed Nancy didn’t care, considering how amazing she was to Will when he came out. Surely Barb had to have told Nancy about their kiss considering they were best friends and all. Why didn’t Nancy ever ask her about it?

Still, Robin made an effort with Nancy. She always acknowledged her at school, even if it was just a nod in her direction. She made small talk whenever they were left alone together. And when Nancy came into her job to rent movies, Robin never charged her for them.

Eventually Nancy would break. She had to. At least, that’s what Steve said. Steve was holding out hope Nancy would open up more to Robin as well. He swore they would be great friends if she would only give it a chance.

Whatever happened, Robin didn’t mind. She liked her friends, she liked her job, she liked the way people looked at her like she was some sort of legend. And sure, she wasn’t entirely over Tammy yet, but she got more than enough attention from girls to distract herself from having to think about it.

Robin was happier than she ever thought she would be back when she was a timid queer girl with no friends. If things could only stay like that forever, her life would be perfect.

-----

“A party in the woods? How original,” Robin remarked, enjoying the way the twigs and leaves crunched under her shoes with each step.

It was the first big party of the school year. A celebration of the start of football season. Not that their team was any good, but any excuse to get wasted and make mistakes drew out a majority of Hawkins teens. Steve was always down for a good time, so they attended the parties together. Always. Sometimes Nancy tagged along. Like tonight.

Steve nudged her with his elbow. “Don’t act so bitter, Rob. I know you love coming to these things. You get more attention than I do.”

“Hey, I can’t control what people say about me,” Robin said, with a grin she knew gave away just how much she loved it.

Nancy scowled, walking on the opposite side of Steve. “You seriously don’t care that so many people talk about you?”

“No?” Robin didn’t know if she was bothered or just being a priss like usual. “So I’m good in bed. They could be saying worse.”

Nancy chuckled, looking amused enough for Robin to not take any offense when she said, “God, you are so full of yourself, aren’t you?”

Steve still interjected and stuck a finger out at each of them. “Ladies, no need to get dirty.”

“Like Wheeler could handle it,” Robin said.

Sometimes, she was too witty for her own good. It was supposed to be a joke, but she and Nancy didn’t joke about things like that. They didn’t joke at all, actually. And Nancy looked totally caught off guard before narrowing her eyes at Robin.

“Robin, behave,” Steve warned, always the mature adult in every situation.

“Whatever. I’m gonna go get drunk,” Robin replied, distancing herself from the two of them and finding her way to the drinks.

She never drank alone, that was a big rule for her. And her mom kept enough alcohol around the house for her to do it if she wanted to. She really only ever drank at parties where she was happy and content to socialize with people she would have never interacted with otherwise.

Steve joined her again after she was on her second drink of the night, easily sliding into the fray beside her and taking part in the conversation at hand. Nancy was not with him. Robin wondered where she had gone off to. She rarely saw Nancy socializing with other people outside of the others who wrote for the school paper. Some of them were probably in attendance.

By her third drink, Robin was a little more than buzzed. She knew her limit was four, so she gave no second thoughts to the way the alcohol felt stinging the back of her throat as she drank from her cup.

A girl from her English class was making small talk with her, purposefully speaking low so that Robin would have to lean in close to hear her. Her intentions weren't exactly subtle. Steve was still nearby, always there if ever he was needed. Nancy was probably close by, too. Not that it mattered.

“What instrument do you play?” the girl asked her.

Robin thought her name was Beth. Better not to guess.

“Trumpet,” Robin answered. “It’s actually pretty difficult to get the hang of, but I’ve been playing since I was a kid.”

“What aren’t you good at?” she asked, flirting shamelessly.

Robin hadn’t hooked up with anyone since Vickie, despite what others surely thought. She wasn’t exactly on the prowl for it, but she wasn’t opposed to it either. Beth (was it Beth?) was cute. If things kept going well, perhaps Robin would make her move. It was clear she wanted her to.

“Don’t make it so easy for her,” a voice said, and Robin turned to look at Nancy who had joined the group of them, arms crossed defiantly over her chest.

Robin probably should have been upset that Nancy had killed the mood, but she wasn’t. If anything, she was even more enthralled than she had been before. What could possibly be causing Nancy to react so brashly to Robin after all this time? It was the most she'd shown she cared. And even if it wasn't positive, Robin wanted more of it.

“Ignore her,” Robin said, still grinning at Nancy. “She wishes I would.”

“I wish you would what?” Nancy asked, quick.

Robin didn’t know why she said that. Yes, she was really feeling the alcohol, but maybe it wasn’t okay to tease a girl who Robin wasn’t even sure considered her a friend or not. Steve would have understood if it had been him.

“Nothing, Wheeler,” Robin answered, retreating from the challenging look in Nancy’s eyes and returning her attention to Beth. “Anyway, what were you saying?”

Beth looked undeterred. “We were talking about how good you are.” She flushed slightly, but her eyes showed no signs of feeling shy. “At playing the trumpet, of course.”

“Right.” Robin smirked. “I could play you something some time. That way you can see for yourself.”

“How does she do it?” Steve drunkenly asked, loud enough for Robin to overhear and understand he was talking about her to Nancy. “I mean, I feel like I should be taking notes here.”

Obviously, their conversation was not as private as she thought it was. Steve was a pain about Robin flirting with people. He treated her like she was some sort of wizard whenever he overheard the lines she would pull. On more than one occasion, he had asked her for tips.

“I’m not impressed,” Nancy remarked, totally aware that Robin was listening.

Robin wondered again why Nancy was so pressed. She never seemed to give much thought to Robin. When Robin would try to talk to her, she acted disinterested or distracted. Even at the video store when Robin would recommend her movies to watch, she never actually rented any of them. Had Robin done something wrong?

“You guys do know I can hear you, right?” she asked, giving Steve her most annoyed face.

Steve laughed, making an exaggerated hushing gesture over his lips. “Sorry, Rob. Just pretend like we aren’t here.”

“Gladly,” Robin muttered, rolling her eyes specifically at Nancy.

“We can go somewhere more private to talk?” Beth suggested, hopeful.

But Robin wasn’t in the mood. Even if she had been interested in hooking up with her that night, that feeling was long gone now. She was going to kill Steve later. He was well aware of how incorrect her sexual history was to the rest of their peers. He, more than anyone, understood it had been a long time for her. Almost four months now since Vickie, which by horny lesbian standards, was a lot.

“I’m actually going to get another drink,” Robin said, dismissing herself before Beth (?) could offer to come with her.

She still wasn’t done with the one in her hand. There were other people to talk to, though. People Robin actually knew the names of.

She found herself being pulled into the dancing crowd by a couple of girls from band. They were just friends and definitely straight, but Robin knew how straight girls got sometimes. Always testing the boundaries, seeing what kind of reactions they could get out of her. She didn’t mind the attention.

Robin wasn’t much of a dancer. She had terrible coordination on a good day, probably due to the lankiness of her body. But after three drinks, she didn’t really care. She danced between the two girls, laughing because of how ridiculous it all seemed to be there at that moment, to never want the night to end.

It was a lot of fun. After a couple of songs, she distanced herself from the crowd again, scanning the outskirts for Steve so that he could tease her about what just happened when she told him. Instead, her eyes found Nancy’s. She wondered how much of that Nancy had seen.

Robin made her way over, moving without thinking about it. Nancy watched her like it was what she expected. Like she knew with certainty Robin would approach her without needing to be beckoned. Robin kind of liked that.

“Enjoy the show?” she asked, attempting to irritate Nancy again because there was something so fun about it.

“I’ve never seen this side of you,” Nancy said, studying her closely. “I mean, of course I’ve heard things, as you know. But this is really… enlightening.”

“I’m glad you think so,” Robin replied, although she wasn’t so sure that was a good thing or not.

Nancy pressed her lips together. “Seriously, what makes you so confident?”

“Seriously?” Robin asked, shrugging. “Nothing. It’s just the way things are. I didn’t ask for my reputation. And I’ll gladly take that over some of the homophobic shit I would have had to deal with if we existed any earlier than this. I mean, can you imagine being gay back in the 80s when our parents were in high school? No thanks.”

“I see your point.”

Nancy looked her up and down in a way that felt more suggestive than not. Robin felt her cheeks warm. It wasn’t often she felt nervous around girls. Nancy Wheeler was an exception for many reasons.

“And what do you think about me?” Nancy asked her. “I want an honest answer.”

“Um.” Robin was caught off guard. “I guess I think you’re a bit uptight.”

Nancy laughed, clearly not offended. “Okay. Sure. What else?”

“I think you keep people at a distance. We haven’t known each other for long, but you never open up to me even though I try to be so nice to you.”

“Do you want me to open up to you?”

Robin shrugged. “Well, yeah. We’re both friends with Steve. We hang out a lot because of him. I don’t see why not. It would only make sense.”

“Maybe I don’t want new friends.”

“Fine.” Robin looked away, trying to ignore the sting she felt.

Even though it was only friendship they were talking about here, it was her first taste at rejection since Tammy said she was over it all. Nancy was colder than Robin had thought. Steve would be disappointed.

“Do you find me attractive?”

Robin’s eyes jumped back up to Nancy’s, and she felt all the breath leave her at once. Nancy looked more confident in that moment than Robin was sure she had ever felt. Almost like she knew there was only one answer to that question coming from Robin. To see someone so acutely aware of their pull was magnetizing.

It wasn’t like Robin had never thought about it. Nancy was very attractive. She’d always thought so, even back before Steve ever came along. But when it came to girls Robin knew were straight and she would never stand a chance with, she didn't get much further than that in her head. Doing so would only lead to torture.

Robin chuckled, shaking her head in an attempt to play it cool. “Why are you asking me that?”

“Because I want to know.”

“Well, yeah,” Robin answered, like it was no big deal. Like she was stating that the sky was blue. Like that was the answer any rational human being would have to that question.

Nancy looked smug. It was seriously so annoying and Robin had no clue what she was playing at. All she knew was that their conversation was starting to piss her off and she needed to step away from it if she was ever going to be able to hang out with Nancy again.

“I’m gonna go find Steve,” she said, beginning to walk away.

Nancy reached out a hand, taking hold of her arm and stopping her. “What’s wrong? Am I boring you?”

“Like anybody could find you boring, Wheeler,” Robin remarked, surprising the both of them, it seemed.

“Come on,” Nancy said, turning around and heading towards the woods without looking to see if Robin was following her.

Robin seriously considered ignoring the command and leaving to find Steve like she’d intended. But something about Nancy was so intriguing to her. She felt invested in a way she never had before. Not even Tammy had been so enticing in the moments she would play hard to get and leave Robin to figure out what her next move would be.

She followed Nancy deeper into the trees, maintaining a few feet of space between the two of them the whole time. Soon, the sounds of the party started to fade away. The light from the fires dimmed out until Robin could barely make out the back of Nancy’s head. They didn’t stop until they hit the edge of a clearing where the moonlight illuminated their faces.

“So what? Are you going to murder me for being a flirt?” Robin asked.

Nancy turned to face her, pressing her back against a tree. “Do you know about me and Jonathan?”

That wasn’t exactly the direction she was expecting their conversation to take, but she would go with it. Nancy opening up to her about her ex was a lot better than Nancy shutting her out altogether.

“Of course I do. Everyone talked about you guys when you first got together,” Robin said. “People always wondered how he pulled you. You know, since you’re so out of his league.” She thought Nancy’s cheeks might have flushed slightly pink at that comment, but she kept going. “I think they assumed that he-”

Robin cut herself off, remembering just in time that the words that were about to leave her mouth were wildly inappropriate to repeat in front of his ex-girlfriend. But Nancy didn’t look like she cared.

“Say it.”

Robin swallowed thickly. “Uh- well… I mean, they said that he was… that he had…” She didn’t know how to say it exactly, or maybe she just didn’t want to have to. “That he was blessed.

Nancy snorted, understanding exactly what Robin was trying to say. “Do you believe them?”

“I don’t know if you know this, Wheeler, but I don’t give much thought to how well endowed men are,” Robin reminded her.

“You mean you’re gay?” Nancy asked, feigning shock. "I had no idea, Robin."

“Just making sure.”

Nancy’s face grew serious. “Well it isn’t true. I would never date somebody for something so shallow.”

“That’s fine,” Robin said, unfazed. “I didn’t actually think that’s the only reason you were with him. I’m only telling you what I heard.”

“I liked him a lot. More than I've ever liked anybody before,” Nancy admitted. “But it wasn’t enough. I wasn’t enough.”

Robin frowned, irritated more than was probably acceptable given how little she actually knew about Nancy and her relationship with Jonathan. Jonathan had always just been that one stoner dude to Robin. Never anything special. Surely not even close to deserving of somebody along the likes of Nancy Wheeler.

“Why would you even think that?”

“Why else would he break up with me?” Nancy retorted.

Robin could see she was set on that idea. “I don’t know. Because he’s a boy and boys are stupid. He’s going to regret it, if he doesn’t already. It’s only a matter of time before he comes crawling back, begging for another chance.”

Nancy sighed, like she was over it all. “It doesn’t matter. I’m done with dating. The boys in this town suck. They have no clue what they’re doing, and even though you try to be nice and wait for them to get better, they still dump you.”

“Wait, are we talking about sex now?”

Nancy shot her a look that told her to keep up. “What’s my problem?”

“I don’t see one,” Robin said, taking note of the way Nancy’s walls seemed to falter at her words and finding it exhilarating. “He’s the one with the problem.”

“I just hate rumors,” Nancy said. “I hate that everyone thinks just because I gave him a chance, he must be this sex god. I hate that he gets all of the attention and support, and everyone treats me like I’m at fault. Like I broke up with him.”

“I didn’t know that. I’m sorry.”

Nancy shrugged. “It doesn’t matter now. I’ve come to terms with it. I know he’s sleeping with other people. He’s not exactly subtle about it, but when are boys ever? All I know is that I deserve some satisfaction, too.”

“Yeah,” Robin immediately agreed. “You do. You deserve it more than he does. More than he ever will.”

They said nothing more for a few moments. The woods were silent except for the occasional sounds of the nightlife. Robin was happy Nancy was finally opening up to her. It was what she wanted most from the other girl. This was good. Steve would be thrilled.

“I hear a lot of rumors about you, too,” Nancy finally said.

Robin dipped her head, kicking at a rock. “So you keep reminding me.”

It would have been the perfect time to tell Nancy the truth. That the tales of her were greatly exaggerated. That sure, she’d kissed a lot of people, but she had really only been intimate with three girls her whole life, and one of them she’d been in love with.

Then Nancy said, “So, are you actually as good as they say?”

Robin could feel the shift between them. There was a tension that hadn’t been there a moment before. She could recognize interest from a girl by now. Nancy was definitely hitting on her.

“There’s only one way to find out,” she said with a slight raspiness to her voice, confident enough to seem to take Nancy by surprise.

“If I tell you what I want, do you think you can do it for me?” Nancy asked her, pensive as she chewed down on her bottom lip.

Robin took a step towards her, fingers already itching to reach out and touch her. “I can try.”

It was Nancy who was asking, so she would always try. No matter what.

“I want to finally have an orgasm that I didn’t have to give to myself.”

Robin nodded because she knew Nancy was going to say something along those lines, closing the gap between them until their hips were flush against one another. Nancy was staring into her eyes, a fire behind them Robin had yet to ever see before. It made her heart pound in her chest.

“I can do that for you,” Robin murmured.

“Yeah?” Nancy didn’t sound as certain as Robin felt.

Robin wanted to take offense to that, but then she remembered how only moments ago, Nancy had admitted that she hated rumors. This felt like a test. Nancy wanted her to prove she was as good as people said she was.

“If I don’t deliver on my word, you can tell everyone how much I sucked,” Robin offered her as reassurance. “It would totally tarnish my reputation coming from you. I wouldn’t even deny it.”

Nancy laughed a little at that. “Pretty confident.”

“Of course I am. I haven’t heard any complaints so far.”

Her eyes moved back to meet Robin’s. “I’m not going to say anything to anyone either way. This will stay between us.”

Robin knew what she was saying. Nancy didn’t want her to tell anyone about it either. Well Robin could keep a secret better than almost anybody. And she didn’t mind being Nancy Wheeler’s secret. Not at that moment.

“Okay,” Robin agreed. “Can I kiss you now?”

Nancy shook her head. “No.”

Robin was thrown off. Had she been misreading their entire interaction? But then that didn’t make sense because why would Nancy have said the things she said to her? And why would she be looking at her like that? Like she wanted Robin to do whatever she wanted to her?

“Nance…” Robin started, trailing off when Nancy moved her hand to the top of her shirt and began to unbutton it one by one.

Robin’s eyes were drawn to the movement, tracking each inch of newly exposed flesh. Nancy was wearing a bra underneath, but Robin could see enough. She sucked in a shaky breath. It had been a while for her, but even then, she doubted she would ever be truly prepared for this.

“Can I touch you?” she asked, trying once again to get permission to do something that wasn’t as torturous as just watching.

“Yes.”

Robin reached a hand up, taking over for Nancy and finishing unbuttoning the rest of her shirt. Then, with both hands, she lightly pushed the material down Nancy’s shoulders, revealing so much skin, she felt faint. The moonlight only made Nancy look more godly than she normally did.

When Robin finally looked up at Nancy’s face again, she was surprised to see the other girl look so at ease. Robin didn’t doubt that this was her first time hooking up with a girl. But Nancy looked like she was in complete control.

Besides Tammy, Robin only knew girls to be nervous when it came to this. She liked being the calm one, the one who knew exactly what to expect. She would be lying if she said she wasn’t thrown off.

“Is that okay?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Nancy nodded. “Yeah.”

Robin’s eyes fell to her lips, noticing for the first time how pretty they were. How could the realization ever have escaped her? She wanted to kiss Nancy so bad. More than she wanted to undress her, which was truly saying something.

Robin dipped her head to kiss her, startled when Nancy turned away at the last moment. She paused, once again very confused.

“Sorry,” Nancy said, staring at the ground. “Just, no kissing, okay?”

It was an unusual request. At least, Robin thought so. But Nancy surely had her reasons, and something was better than nothing.

“Okay, sure,” Robin agreed. “Just on your mouth, or…?”

Nancy flushed at that and Robin felt somewhat victorious although that had not been her intent.

“Anywhere else is fine,” Nancy confirmed.

So Robin inched forward, pressing her lips lightly against Nancy’s jaw, then dragging them slowly across her neck, testing out the waters. She could feel Nancy’s pulse against her lips, could tell Nancy’s breathing was getting heavier. It was like a drug to her.

Robin sucked down a bit, careful not to leave a mark behind. Nancy probably wouldn’t want the questions about who she had gotten them from. Her hands grazed the exposed skin of Nancy’s torso, blindly mapping out a path across the soft skin.

She had never thought about Nancy in the ways she was thinking of her now. Wondering what she would taste like, what she would sound like when she came, if she would say Robin’s name or not.

She could feel Nancy growing more eager by the minute, squirming under Robin’s touch and pressing her fingers into Robin’s back to keep their bodies pinned together. Robin considered unhooking her bra, but if anybody were to come out this deep into the woods for whatever reason, she wanted as little of Nancy to be exposed as possible.

Robin didn’t know if this kind of opportunity with Nancy would ever present itself again for her. She was very much aware of losing her chance to see Nancy completely topless. It was the selfless choice to make.

“How do you want me to do it?” Robin asked, barely recognizing her own voice as thick as it came out.

She felt Nancy shiver in her arms. “You can use your hand,” she said, sounding slightly nervous for the first time since their interaction began.

Knowing she was getting to Nancy was like winning the lottery for some reason. Robin knew that whatever she was doing, was working. She was confident she could get Nancy off with just her hand. Going down on her would have been a lot better, but she would take what she could get.

“I’m going to unbutton your shorts,” Robin told her once she realized Nancy was waiting for her to escalate things.

Nancy nodded. Robin pulled away, reaching between their bodies to undo the button at the top of Nancy’s shorts and drag down the zipper. She pushed her way inside and slowly moved her fingers until they were cupping Nancy through her underwear. She could tell instantly that Nancy was wet. The best sign to receive at a moment like that.

“This okay?” she asked, her breathing coming out just as intensely as Nancy’s was now.

“Yes.” Nancy’s eyes flashed up to hers, maintaining intense contact. “You don’t need to ask me. Just do whatever you want.”

“Given our lack of privacy, I’ll resist doing everything I want to do to you right now,” Robin murmured, bold in her words because they were the truth and Nancy was probably turned on enough to accept anything she said without holding it against her.

Nancy sucked in a shaky breath, breaking eye contact and tilting her head back against the tree so that the long column of her neck was exposed. Robin placed gentle kisses there, simultaneously stroking Nancy over the thin fabric and taking pleasure in the way she could feel it growing damper.

Nancy reached a point with her where she was frustrated enough to push past Robin’s hand and pull her own underwear down. Robin knew the teasing had been a bit much, but she was used to taking her time and getting Nancy off meant more to her than she was willing to admit.

“I thought the whole point of this was that I wouldn’t have to do any of the work myself,” Nancy grumbled, but remained still, waiting for Robin to make the next move.

Robin tentatively pressed her fingers against Nancy until they were coated in how wet she was, leaning in close to sound as unaffected as possible as she replied, “The point of this is for me to get you off. It’ll be worth it if you just let me go at my own pace.”

Would it be? Robin hoped so. But something she had learned early on with Tammy was that confidence was half of the battle here. Tammy had told her how much it turned her on when Robin was certain she was capable in bed. Surprisingly, Nancy seemed to fall privy to the same logic.

Nancy moaned softly, the sound lingering in the air around them. Robin, tentative but very skillfully, stroked her, timing it out perfectly before slipping one finger into Nancy. She was tight, but all of the foreplay assured Robin she could take another.

And with two fingers pushing in and out of her at a controlled pace, Nancy was more vocal, more present. She held tightly onto Robin’s shoulders, breathing raggedly near Robin’s ear. Not getting to see Nancy’s face during this whole process sucked. If they were anywhere else, Robin knew for certain she would have watched.

But she couldn’t be thorough and discreet at the same time. Not when Hawkins was a cesspool of gossip and Nancy wasn’t even out. Maybe wasn’t even gay. Straight girls were a mystery to Robin, because some of them played these games where they wanted to prove they could have anyone, including someone of the same sex.

Pushing those speculations as far to the back of her mind as she could manage, Robin tuned back into Nancy entirely, increasing the pace of her hand. She pushed up, curling her fingers just slightly until she could feel the friction she was looking for. Nancy moaned again.

Robin bet she could have gotten her to come with penetration alone. And that was really sad considering neither Steve or Jonathan had managed to make it happen yet. On the other hand, it did wonders for her ego.

Still, she knew exactly the kind of thing that would elevate Nancy’s impending orgasm and couldn’t resist giving it to her since it could not be her own tongue that night. Robin moved her thumb up, making contact with Nancy’s clit and rubbing circles at the same time her other two fingers kept pumping inside of her.

“Oh fuck,” Nancy said, and Robin closed her eyes, imagining the look on her face.

“Feels good?” she asked.

Nancy only moaned in response, the loudest one yet. Robin wanted to hear her say her name so bad. She was beyond aroused. Not even a cold shower would be enough to cool her nerves, she knew that for certain.

“Oh,” Nancy huffed out, voice pitched high. Robin knew she was close, could feel the way Nancy was tightening against her fingers. “I’m-”

And then came a series of moans hitched onto the ends of shallow breaths, basically music to Robin’s ears. It was exactly how she had envisioned it, even if the image had only been conjured minutes ago.

Robin eased her down, slowing the pace of her hand until Nancy had finally caught her breath. She pulled her fingers out, wanting to bring them to her mouth but opting to wipe them on the back of her pants instead.

Nancy fixed herself, working quickly to right her clothes and flatten down the back of her hair where she’d been pressing up against the tree. Robin watched, pretending like every one of her nerve endings wasn’t on fire.

“How was that?” she asked, voice still laden with lust.

Nancy glanced up at her, eyes intense. “Good.” And then she paused, lifting a shoulder in slight defeat. “Great, actually. I honestly wasn't expecting that. Thanks.”

Robin smiled, taking no offense. “Anytime.”

And maybe that just sounded like another line, but she meant it. Anytime Nancy Wheeler called upon her for an orgasm, Robin would surely be there like some sort of sex superhero.

“We should get back to the party,” Nancy suggested, already beginning to walk away.

Robin bet she was regretting it already. It wasn’t surprising, but she didn’t want this to change anything between them. She liked being around Nancy, even if Nancy was more reluctant to show she liked being around Robin, too, if at all.

“Sure. I’ll be right there. It’s probably best if I come back a few minutes after you. I wouldn’t want anyone getting suspicious.”

Nancy nodded, understanding Robin was suggesting that more for Nancy’s privacy than her own. “Good thinking.”

Robing watched her go, falling back against the tree Nancy had just been pressed into moments before. If she closed her eyes and focused hard enough, she could almost hear the way Nancy sounded, could almost feel the pressure of her body against her own. She growled in frustration, pushing back and away a few feet.

This - Robin was determined here - was not going to fuck with her head.
