Chapter Text
“Elizabeth. I love you. Truly and deeply.”
The woman sighed, her brown eyes staring intently at the bright screen. Playing back the lessons of her favorite mobile otome always served as a great distraction for the quiet, lonely nights, but this night felt… particularly bad. She was hardly able to give a soft chuckle at Asmodeus’ plea for help from the raven haired demon that had just declared his love for the main character, giving the time a glance once the scene finished and exited. It was still rather early in the evening. And yet, she didn’t think she was going to get any sleep just yet.
Today had been another long day. An off day from work, which only served to remind her of her lack of distraction from the invasive thoughts she despised. Good thing Obey Me was always here for her to play through the previous lessons. She had managed to reread the first twenty lessons again; the first season. But with the start of the second season, in the mist of the Gold Hellfire Newt Syrup Soup plot, it seemed to get harder to pay attention to the character’s lines.
She sighed again and set her phone to the side, plugging it back in after setting her alarm as she ran a hand through her auburn colored hair. Maybe she should just try to sleep now.
She tossed and turned for a few moments before she heard the familiar soft chime of a notification from her phone. Reflexively, she flipped back over and picked up the device, glancing at the popup before furrowing her brows in confusion.
It was a notification from Obey Me, with the familiar crow icon and title indicating the game’s name, but the content itself was… different. Unlike the most common notifications, “The demons have finished their job” or “Chat: Insert message here” it was simply…
Hello.
Elizabeth blinked at her phone in confusion for a second, a thought darting across her mind that the bright light of the screen must be messing with her vision, only for another notification to appear on her phone, replacing the first message.
Elizabeth? Can you see this?
She was definitely a bit startled now. Did that message just appear because she was looking at her phone? She pressed a hand to her face, shielding her eyes from the light for a moment as she tried to understand the odd messages. After a moment, her hand moved to unlock her phone so she could open up the game, only to immediately pause as her phone vibrated once more in her grip.
Wait! Don’t open it!
She paled slightly, frozen in place as her free hand hovered over the screen.
Please, you can just talk, or just nod if you prefer, but just to confirm, you can see this, correct?
Elizabeth immediately sat up in bed, staring down at the device quietly for a few long moments. Really her mind must be playing tricks on her. However, she glanced around her room for a moment, as if confirming that she really was alone, and then nodded her head.
Excellent! I’m glad we found a way to talk to you, Elizabeth!
She gasped softly. There was no way. Were these messages… really reacting to her in real time? And… they could see her? Still in a bit of a daze she muttered out softly, “Who exactly is ‘we?’”
Everyone here in Devildom. Have you forgotten who we are already?
She flinched, “I’m sorry? At Devildom? You mean… the demons? And angels? And Soloman?” she sputtered out.
Exactly! We’re all here! Well, except Luke. He doesn’t realize who you are yet. Probably for the best.
Before she could really react to that message, doesn’t realize who you are yet? What?, Another popped up swiftly.
Could you do me a favor Elizabeth? Please?
She narrowed her eyes at the phone. This was insane. She was talking to a message box on her phone lock screen. But… well what did she have to lose?
“…. Depends on the favor. If you want my soul, no dice.”
Haha, no no nothing like that. I promise.
Could you think of one of us? Any one of us?
Well, you should probably think of someone competent.
But anyone should be fine! Just close your eyes and let me know when you’re thinking of them.
The messages came in quick succession, but thankfully, with a swipe on her phone, she could see the past messages.
“Uh, anyone. Right, ok.” She replied hesitantly. With a heavy sigh she closed her eyes, leaning back a little and allowing her head to empty of everything but the person on her mind, “Ok, I’m thinking of them.”
She didn’t hear any notification indicating a response from the mysterious messenger and her room was almost deathly quiet for many moments, leaving her almost too scared to open her eyes to see if the messages needed anything else from her.
“Well, to think that I would be the first one you’d think of.” A deep voice suddenly sounded in her room in front of her, casing the woman to visibly jump as her eyes shot open wide in surprise.
Before her, the raven haired and red eyed first borne demon stood, arms crossed and a slight, smug smirk on his face, leaving Elizabeth sputtering, “L-Lucifer?”
