Chapter Text

-Tai-
I woke with a start as my alarm clock screamed in my ear. Shit. It was already 8.30. I was insanely late for school. I had already missed the first bus to get there. I grabbed my books and quickly threw on my school uniform. I grabbed an old sandwich from the fridge to keep me going for the day and I sent a quick text to my best friend, Yari, telling him to cover for me. I grabbed my bag and sprinted out of the door.

I ran as fast as I could to get to the tube, swiped my card and hopped on the first train that arrived at the station. The train was hot and grubby, smelling faintly of alcohol. Dirt streaked the sides and bright yellow graffiti covered the dirty walls of the disgusting carriage. I put my phone away in my bag and grabbed some water and took a sip. I fumbled and dropped my bottle and somebody across the aisle grabbed it and held it out a hit ropes towards them. My eyes met those of the passenger opposite me.

It was Him. He was looking at me.

My ex.

Felix.

I dropped my sandwich.

I avoided him at all costs at school. Our story Hadn’t been a happy one. He had broken my heart a little over a month ago and I had succeeded in avoiding him ever since. It hadn’t been tricky as he wasn’t in any of my classes, but being in such close quarters with him was unnerving.

“Hey” he muttered. My heart stopped in my chest. I had been hoping he wouldn’t speak to me, and just ignore me like he had in the last few days of our relationship. “Uh… hi” I mumbled. Looking around for someone to save me from this half-conversation. I prayed he wouldn’t keep taking to me, and just leave me alone but he continued. “Look, I’ve been wanting to talk to you- I’m sorry how I ended it and it’s been so long, but I miss you.” I couldn’t breathe, I had wanted him to take me back for so long, but now that I knew how he felt, I didn’t want to be with him. I grabbed my book, The Graveyard Boys and flicked to a page. It wasn’t the page I was on, but it would have to do. My eyes skimmed the page. I couldn’t change it without looking weak or drawing attention. My eyes snagged on a sentence. SHIT. I hadn’t got to that bit yet. Now my book was ruined all because of my dickhead of a shitty ex. The story had just been getting good but now I had been forced to spoil it for myself. I f he was trying to get into my good books- he ceartainly wasn’t doing a good fucking job.

Thankfully, the train arrived at our stop and I bolted out of the station. It had started raining. He ran after me “T, wait! Please I just need to talk to you.” I hated the pet name he had had for me when we were dating and it ripped a hole in my chest when he used it again. I just wanted to be left alone.“Please I just want to ask you something” he panted as he caught up with me. His dirty blonde hair was now plastered to his forehead, he was covered in rain. “Tai, I’m begging you, I miss you so much, I just want to make amends for what I did”. Anger spread through my body, how dare he try to take back the unspeakable thing that he did. Cheating was unforgivable, and especially with one of our closest friends- Tony.

“I can never forgive you, Felix. I know you and Tony are over, but what you did to me is unforgivable. I can’t be with you.” I couldn’t believe his audacity in the first place, cheating on me and breaking my heart, and then asking me to take him back after not speaking to me for a year. Especially at such a stressful time when the scholarship exams were nearing. “Just leave me alone” I said. I sprinted down the street until I arrived at school. I darted into an empty classroom and sank to the floor. I couldn’t deal with what was happening and I just needed some space.

-Yari-

My best friend, Tai was going to get me in so much trouble. First asking me to cover for him for being late, and then being so late that he couldn’t give me the maths homework that he did for me every week. I had already got too many detentions because of him sleeping through his alarm as a result of studying until a crazy hour of the morning.

He finally arrived in the classroom, soaking wet and looking like he had been crying. “Hey! What happened to you!?” I questioned. “I got chased through the rain by my crazy ex” he sighed. “Who, Felix?” I asked. He nodded. “Jesus, what did he want” I said. “He wanted me to take him back actually.” “What!?” Anger coursed through my veins. How dare that horrible guy ask my sweet and kind best friend to do anything for him, let alone take him back. I knew some people didn’t see him in the same light as I did, but I loved him (as a friend) even though he had a tricky personality.

“I’ll kill him. I will kill that evil son of a bitch” I muttered under my breath. “No, no it’s okay, I said no and it doesn’t really matter” Tai whispered. “You can’t let him walk all over you like this” I replied “ he doesn’t deserve to even speak to you, let alone demand things from you. If he ever bothers you again, Just text me and I’ll make him and that dickhead Anton pay.” “Don’t worry Yari, it was nothing, we can just forget about him. Anyway, here’s your maths paper” he said. “Ah, perfect. Now I hopefully won’t get a detention” I said, but the thoughts of getting revenge on Felix for being so rude to my best friend still hadn’t left me.

I jogged to bottom set Maths with a sigh. I couldn’t understand sums for the life of me, but Tai was helping me out of extra tutoring by doing my homework for me. I found algebra almost impossible, I was envious of Tai- he could do any maths sum without even thinking, but then again I beat him every time in sports tournaments.

Maths class went by without incident suprisingly but next I had Spanish. I sat one fucking row away from the dick Felix. I didn’t know if I could keep my anger in check. I cared so unfathomably much about Tai. I would do anything for him. Fuck, his birthday was even the code to my phone. He could ask me for anything and I would give it to him without a question.
