“I’m home!” Fauna called out as she opened the door, excitement in her voice in spite of how tired she was under it all from how long of a week it had been. Tending to a domain as perpetually endangered as hers took a lot of time and energy, but at least it was over with...
Speaking of time, it wasn’t long before the sounds of quick footfall came to her ears. Sure enough, seconds later, a softly familiar sight emerged from the hall, eyes and smile wide.
“Fauna!” The Warden nearly shouted, rushing forwards and immediately scooping the Keeper up in a hug.
“I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess that you missed me?” Fauna giggled, wrapping her arms around her neck and kicking her legs that were now a solid inch or so off the ground.
“Nope, didn’t miss you for a second!” Kronii just grinned back, spinning the Keeper in her arms and drawing a surprised squeak and even more giggles.
“K-Kronii, put me down!” Fauna laughed, grip tightening on the Warden as they slowly came to a stop. Her feet found the floor again but the arms around her didn’t seem like they’d be leaving anytime soon.
“You sure aren’t acting like someone who didn’t miss me, you know.” Fauna smiled up at her girlfriend, moving to gently brush some of her now messy bangs from her eyes. The second she did, Kronii leaned into her hand, eyes fluttering closed as a contented rumble rose in her throat.
“I despise every second you’re here.” Kronii sighed fondly, the affectionate tone contrasting so much with her words that it drew another giggle from the Keeper.
“Mhm, sure, I believe you. Does that mean you don’t want kisses?” Fauna moved her hand away, trying to fight the grin attempting to cross her features as Kronii’s eyes immediately snapped open in horror.
“Wha- Noooo, kisses please!” Kronii whined, burying her face in the Kirin’s hair and holding her tighter.
“Okay okay, you’ll get plenty of kisses after dinner, okay?” Fauna offered, earning another discontented sound from the Warden.
“Why after dinner? You’ve been gone for a week…” Kronii whined, pulling back enough to look her in the eyes with a pout.
“Because then you’ll get carried away and I won’t be able to make dinner, knowing you.” Fauna shook her head with a fond sigh.
“Hey, no, I can manage!” Kronii just pouted further, hesitantly letting go of the Keeper to cross her arms.
“You said that last time, how’d that go?” Fauna reminded her. A flush quickly rose in the Warden’s face, avoiding eye contact.
“Case and point. I’ll go start making dinner and you can have all the kisses you want after we’re done eating, okay?” Fauna promised, taking her hands and giving them a gentle squeeze.
“...Unfair…” Kronii grumbled, hanging her head slightly. Fauna frowned at the dejected aura coming from her girlfriend, then smiled when an idea came to her.
“You can help me if you’d like, but you need to be patient. Can you do that for me, darling?” Fauna whispered, pressing a gentle kiss to her cheek that made Kronii let out a flustered squeak, face erupting into a dark shade of red. Fauna just giggled at that, smiling up at her.
“You’re too cute for your own good sometimes, you know that?” Fauna grinned, reaching up and booping her nose. Kronii just blinked for a few seconds, still very much bluescreening before she quickly shook her head as if to shake out the cobwebs.
“U-Uh- Y-Yeah, of- O-Of course I am, I’m p-perfect after all!” Kronii tried to boast but it was very shaky and unconvincing.
“That you are Kronii, that you are.” Fauna completely turned it back on her, taking her own sort of glee in how flustered the Warden had become.
“...Y-You’re the worst. Why do I love you.” Kronii grumbled, quickly turning on her heel and shuffling towards the kitchen, hands in her pockets.
“Yeah yeah, whatever you say, dear.” Fauna shook her head with an amused smile that only grew when Kronii stumbled mid-step at the pet name.
She should take breaks more often…
“Hang on, let me wash the dishes first.” Fauna gave a gentle smile as she got up from the table with their plates, chuckling at the exaggerated groan of disappointment from her girlfriend.
“You’re the worst. Evil incarnate. I’m never going to financially recover from this.” Kronii deadpanned, earning her a giggle from the kirin as she made her way to the sink, rolling up her sleeves and getting to work-
Or at least she would have if not for familiar arms wrapping around her, keeping the Keeper from getting very far.
“This isn’t helping me do this any faster you know.” Fauna quipped as Kronii rested her chin on her shoulder.
“Don’t care, I wanna hold you.” Kronii grumbled, holding her tighter. Fauna couldn’t help but melt a little at that, turning her head slightly to press a kiss to her cheek, or at least, she tried to.
Seems they had the same sort of idea and Kronii turned her head towards her, the more chaste kiss to the cheek instead turning into a soft peck on the lips, not that either of them minded all that much. If anything Kronii’s eyes lit up at that, starting to pepper the Keeper’s face with kisses as said Keeper tried to safely put down the plate in the midst of giggles trying to bubble up from her lungs at the affection.
“K-Kronii- G-Geez, you aren’t gonna let me finish are you?” Fauna sighed in mock exasperation and a smile.
“Nope!” Kronii grinned a fanged grin, pressing another kiss to her jaw with a slight nip of teeth. The Kirin’s face burnt at that, letting out a nervous sort of laugh.
“S-Someone’s clingy tonight…” Fauna stammered, squirming in the snake’s affectionate coils.
“Well excuse me for being homesick…” Kronii rolled her eyes as if it were obvious, nuzzling further into her neck.
“I’m t-the one who left h-home, silly…” Fauna mumbled, trying to ignore the soft kisses brushing her skin as Kronii just carried on without a care.
Kronii lifted her head slightly, turning the Kirin around to face her, mischievous smile softening to one filled with love and adoration.
“Exactly, how’s this house supposed to feel like home without you in it?” Kronii whispered, gently kissing her forehead.
“Corny…” Fauna breathed, eyes softening. Kronii just smiled down at her, lifting one of the Keepers hands to her face.
“I’m not corny, I’m in love.” Kronii murmured, pressing a soft kiss to the back of her hand, eyes bright and warm in spite of their colder hue.
And really, what else was there to say to that besides giving the Warden exactly what she wanted?
