living with a headache (who happens to be incredibly drunk)

Summary:

There were many reasons there was never a quiet moment on the bus.
It would be much quieter if the main nuisance shut up.
...
The silence is piercing.

Don Quixote X Faust
If I can't have more fan fiction of them, I'll just do it myself.

Update as of May 31st, 2025: This was written pre release, with no particular knowledge of the characters, so for the most part, everyone is written out of character. Especially Faust. So please express caution.

Notes:

Work Text:

Typically, on a normal day, the bus would be bustling with the Sinners doing various things. The sound of idle chatter and arguments about trivial topics was a common occurrence. In fact, it was so frequent that silence, though preferred, would be even worse than Heathcliff provoking someone or Don ranting about Color Fixers. While Heathcliff was still starting fights with everyone, the cheerful noise of Don gushing about her favorite Fixers was not present.

While the quiet was appreciated, Faust couldn't help but be distracted. Don would usually be pestering her or another Sinner by now. Faust looked outside the window of the bus and stared at the desolate, depressing scenery outside. The sound of footsteps made her look towards the source of the noise. It turned out to be Don. While she is usually hyper and bouncing around with a skip in her step, Don appears...Sad? Tired? Something like that. The shorter Sinner paused briefly at the sight of Faust.

Faust noticed that Don's eyes didn't have that usual 'glint' in them. Don noticed Faust's stare. She stared back. This is unusual for Don. She would have said an overly extravagant greeting ("Salutations Faust esquire! Today shall be an extraordinary day!"), or something similar. Even though Faust was the (self proclaimed) 3rd smartest person in The City, she couldn't figure out why Don was so...Exhausted.

Don was still staring at Faust. The shorter girl tilted her head. There was silence for a few moments before she finally spoke.
"Eh? Why's a-" Don hiccuped, "A Color Fixer here?"
Don was now grinning, the shine in her eyes returning, but her behavior was still different. It seems she dropped her odd vocabulary for once. Faust was extremely confused. Color Fixer? Where?

Faust thought of an answer for a moment.
"There are no Color Fixers here," That should be a safe answer for now. Now it was Don's turn to be confused.
"Huh? No, you're a Color Fixer, riiight?" The smaller girl tilted her head at Faust.

Faust stared at Don in complete confusion.
"..What?" Faust was, for sure, not a Color Fixer. Something is very wrong with Don. Don had a smile on her face, bordering manic.
"Nope! You're for sure a Color Fixer! That's so cool!!!" Don tackled Faust with no warning. The other Sinners had stopped what they were doing and stared at the pair.

Outis raised an eyebrow at the sight.
"What in the world are you two doing?" Outis asked, with a mildly amused tone. Faust gave her a glare, but answered anyways.

"Hmph. It seems that Don is going mad," Faust replied. Don muttered something under her breath before staring back at Faust.

It was the first time Faust had seen Don up close and personal. Faust noticed that her cheeks were flushed and…She reeked of alcohol. This could only mean one thing.

Don Quixote is drunk. Extremely drunk.

Don pushed herself further towards Faust. The former’s warm breath made the latter blush, ever so slightly.

“Ah, DonDon charmed the City’s 3rd smartest person? How cute~!” Faust could hear Rodion say to Ishmael. The ginger simply shrugged. Hong Lu looked towards Rodion.

“What are they doing? It’s quite undignified to tackle so-“ The Nestborn was quickly interrupted by Ryōshū blowing smoke into his face. He muttered something along the lines of “How rude!”.

Faust grew annoyed at the other Sinners’ conversations. She snapped, “Silence!”, though nobody really cared. She was offended.

Don grew even closer to Faust, their noses practically touching. “Your breath reeks of alcohol, it’s disgusting,” Faust spat at Don in a futile attempt to make her go away.

Gregor, who watched this interaction, was greatly confused judging by his facial expression. Faust didn’t care at the moment.

Don still wouldn’t leave. Faust sighed internally. There would be no winning against her. Faust figured, if she won’t go away, she might as well extract information from Don.

“Don. Where did you get the alcohol from?” Faust asked, trying to pull away. This was a futile attempt as Don moved towards her once again. Don put her index finger on her chin, feigning thinking. Don snapped and answered Faust happily.

“Rodya did! She was nice and gave me 10 cans of beer!” Don waved towards Rodion, who simply gave a smile and a wink back. Faust was dumbfounded. 10 cans? Why would Rodion give Don 10 cans of beer? Don seemed like she couldn’t handle alcohol at all. How is she even standing?

Don spoke once more, snapping Faust out of her trance, “Y’know, Colors are really cool! Can you sign something? OR, EVEN BETTER!” Her volume suddenly increased, which startled Faust. Just a bit.

“You can kiss me! That’s even better than a signature!” Faust froze. Did Don seriously ask Faust to kiss her? There was no hints of sarcasm or playfulness in her voice. She was completely, dead serious about this.

Rodion, who was still listening in on their conversation, suddenly burst into laughter. Sinclair, who had not been paying attention because he was speaking to Yi Sang, was quite startled by the taller woman’s sudden outburst. Yi Sang, on the other hand, had no hint of emotion on his face. Meursault stood nearby, appearing unamused. Even Ryōshū cackled. Hong Lu was confused again.

“What are you all laughing about..?” He stopped himself for a moment and shook his head, “Never mind, I don’t think I want to know,” Hong Lu looked slightly concerned now.

Faust couldn’t come up with an answer fast enough. Is there even a valid response to that? Before the City’s 3rd smartest person could answer Don, the girl had already leaned forward to kiss Faust. And she did. Right on the lips.

Faust was combusting on the inside. Her brain was not functioning as it should be. All her thoughts right now are ‘She kissed me. She kissed me. She seriously just kissed me,’

Faust stuttered as Don pulled back. Don was grinning, you could practically see the joy radiating off her. Faust didn’t know how to react to this. All she could think about was Don, Don and Don only.

‘Her smile is cute. How did I never notice that? Wait, she only calls me beauty. That should’ve been a sign. How did I not realize? Am I really that dense? Now that I think about it, Don is…Very cute…’

Faust was short circuiting. Don stared at her curiously.

“Heey, are you okay? Wake up. Wake up!” Don poked her cheek many times until Faust shook her head and collected herself. She didn’t exactly know what to say. There isn’t exactly a book named “Signs that Don Quixote loves you!” or “What to do if a fellow Sinner kisses you on the lips”. If either existed, she really, really needed it right now.
