Chapter Text
Standing in an abandoned farmhouse with two vampires she'd never met was not how Elena imagined spending her day. Trevor actually frightened her just a bit, because his control seemed to be lacking. Rose however, was brash and cold, but Elena could understand her. She was afraid, and she wanted her freedom. Elena understood that, just like she understood that in a few months, she would die for Klaus, the Original Hybrid, so that he could regain the half of him that had been bound by his mother.
Isobel had actually been rather pleasant since John and Elena had managed to flip her switch. She'd told them everything she knew about the sacrifice, which had been quite a lot after spending so much time with Katherine. Katherine wanted her freedom from Klaus, and she was more than happy to have Elena die for it.
When it finally happened, Rose and Trevor were both trembling, but Elena stood her ground. You'd never be able to tell Elijah had lived more than a thousand years if you didn't know about vampires. He looked as though he'd been turned around twenty-four, but there was just something about him. And the way he stared at Elena in shock was interesting. "Hello there," he greeted as he stepped closer to her. She tensed slightly when he leaned towards her and inhaled. "Human. Impossible," he stared at her curiously for a moment before turning back towards Trevor and Rose.
Elena couldn't help but flinch and gasp as Elijah decapitated Trevor with his bare hand. Rose screamed and Elena looked away. Then Elijah turned back towards her. "Come," he motioned for her to follow him.
"If I agree to the sacrifice, can you just take me home?" Elena asked in a quiet voice. "I've already got the moonstone," she added. He flicked his gaze to Rose.
"First I've heard of it," she told him as she took a step back.
"Well if you hadn't wanted me to be quiet earlier maybe you would have heard about it," Elena replied with a glare before turning back to Elijah. "Take me home and we can talk."
"Are you negotiating with me?" Elijah stepped forward and caught her eye, and Elena crossed her arms over her chest.
"There's still vervain in my system, so that's not gonna work," she sighed, ignoring the fear on Rose's face as she watched them. "I swear I'm not going to pull a Katherine and run. I just want to go home and make sure my family stays safe until your brother shows up," Elena told him quietly. "You can even stay and keep an eye on me if you want."

"This is ridiculous. I'm literally walking to my death who-knows-when," Elena complained as she sat at the kitchen table.
"Well, after the sacrifice you still have to graduate," Ric commented from where he sat across from her. She groaned and refocused on her calculus homework. John and Isobel were actually, finally going out to dinner after Elena, Jenna and Ric had been making comments and teasing for weeks. Jenna was upstairs in the shower, leaving Elena and Ric to handle dinner. Her aunt Jenna could absolutely not cook, but at least Ric could, so Elena wasn't totally on her own. Jeremy was out with his girlfriend, Anna.
John had been pissed about Anna taking a liking to Jeremy, but Jeremy had thrown Isobel back at him and the conversation had ended right then. Elena chuckled to herself, drawing her Stepdad's attention. "I was just thinking about Jeremy and John arguing about Anna," she explained and Ric chuckled then too. A few minutes later, Jenna came down the stairs with a smile.
"Dinner's almost ready," Ric said as he stood to kiss Jenna with a smile. Elena smiled.
"You guys are adorable," she told them. Eventually, she closed her calculus textbook with a frustrated groan. "I can not focus on this tonight," she announced as she cleared her stuff off the table and replaced it with plates for dinner.
A knock at the door had everyone pausing. Elena's friends usually just walked in, and Anna was with Jeremy. She was really the only one who usually knocked, besides Elijah. As Elena moved to answer the door, Jenna called out. "Tell Elijah he's welcome to join us," Elena chuckled at how not weird that felt, her aunt just including Elijah in family dinner.
After Elijah had brought her home from being kidnapped by Rose three months prior, Elena had sat down with Ric, John and Isobel and they had told Jenna and Jeremy everything. She had wanted her family to be prepared for the sacrifice, and Elijah had promised an elixir to bring her back. John had not been so keen on Elijah being around, but he had eventually accepted that there was no one better to keep Elena safe until the time came.
As soon as she opened the front door, Elena froze, blinking owlishly at the man standing on her porch. He was tall, with short dirty blond hair and stormy blue eyes. The guy looked around twenty-two, and if the surprise on his face was anything to go by, he hadn't been expecting her. With the way he reacted, Elena knew immediately who was standing in front of her, even before he spoke. "Well well, my brother spoke the truth. Hello love," he smirked at her, and she did her best to ignore how it added to the attractiveness of his already handsome features.
"Klaus," she smiled at the way he blinked in surprise. Leaving the door open as she took a couple steps back, she called back into the kitchen. "Yeah so, not Elijah. But you might want to call him," she told Jenna and Ric, who both looked up in confusion. "Klaus is here."
