Work Text:
yatora's not sure how it started anymore. it's just one moment they're painting and the next yakumo is on top of him and the room gets hotter, his breathing faster, and his mind begins melting.
all he can feel is yakumo's lips on his, his tongue dancing around with his own, his body heat and his hands exploring all over his skin.
but that's all it is. they just kiss, makeout and touch each other but they never go beyond that.
they're not even together .
no confessions were made, nor was there even any questions. no wanna makeout or do you like me? either.
and it keeps on happening again and again and again.
but it’s fun and it feels good. they’re not hurting anyone else (as far as yatora knows) so it isn’t a problem.
it isn’t a problem until yatora starts having weird dreams always involving yakumo and it doesn’t always end nice.
-
the first dream was okay. the only weird thing was that in this dream murai yakumo was a girl. physically, everything about him was different except his eyes (yatora could never mistake that shade of purple) and yatora was 100% sure that this woman was murai yakumo.
he doesn’t know why he knows this but he just does.
she was holding hands with dream yatora and they were having a peaceful stroll in the park. she was wearing something that looked like it came from the 19th century. her top hat was a deep wine red color to match her dress accentuated by ribbons and lace in the same shade.
she was laughing the same boisterous way the murai yakumo he knew did that they were getting odd looks from other people. but she didn’t care, and nor did dream yatora because he was laughing along with her (the reason, he can’t recall) and his heart felt full.
the next day he found himself asking how yakumo felt about wearing a dress.
“what’s this, yatora? wanna see me in a dress? i’ll think about it if you beg,” yakumo leered at him.
despite yatora’s answering fuck off he couldn’t help but imagine how this yakumo would look like wearing the wine red dress he was wearing in his dream.
-
yatora has to stop a heated makeout session (in a luckily empty studio, no less. the desk wasn’t the most comfortable place to sit on but having yakumo standing and crowding him into the wall made up for it) when flashes of his last nightmare invaded his brain.
it was maybe the fifth or fourth dream he had with yakumo in it, but it was the first one he woke up with tears in his eyes. he couldn’t help but cry a bit more when he saw yakumo well and alive in school that same morning.
the exact scene was hard to make out, there was too much smoke and a lot of just about everything around him burning. he was running so hard up broken stairs. every step he took made an unpleasant cracking sound that echoed in his head, warning him of what was to come next.
his left leg was stinging, twinging in pain (yatora felt the need to look over his actual legs when he woke up) and it was getting harder and harder to breathe.
the him in his dream had to recklessly push open a door with his whole body at the risk of making the whole staircase shatter along with it. it did completely fall off but it didn’t matter because he was able to get into this one room.
in it lay the yakumo of this dream. well, he could see half of him at least. his other half was crushed by rubble presumably from the missing ceiling.
yatora tried to remove the rubble but he couldn’t pull the other man out of there without hurting him. in the end he couldn’t do anything but cry gently, laying yakumo’s head in his lap as much as he could without moving him.
yakumo looked different again in this dream, his face a bit longer, and his skin a bit wrinklier but he still had the same set of eyes. and even if his ever so familiar eyes were dimming he left all the crying to yatora.
“hey, it’s okay. i’m happy to have lived this life with you. so please, leave me and get out of here.” yakumo said in a voice so uncharacteristically soft and little it broke yatora’s heart even more. as hard as it was to catch it over his own crying, yatora didn’t miss a single word. he was shaking and crying. he didn’t know what to do but he was absolutely not going to leave yakumo in this burning hell alone.
yatora woke up with a gasping breath. he didn’t even get to hear what he was mustering to say in his dream.
presently, yatora stopped yakumo’s actions with a hand on his chest.
“what’s wrong?” yakumo asked him, his voice eerily worried.
yatora looked up at him, “sorry, there’s nothing wrong. i just-” before yatora could finish his sentence yakumo had cupped his face in his hands, wiping something away from his cheek.
“you’re crying,”
shit. he didn’t even notice he was already crying. what was he even doing right now? yakumo is right here in front of him, yakumo was kissing him and he put that to a stop because of a dream.
“it’s nothing. i just, can i hug you for a bit?” yatora felt heat crawl up his face but all yakumo did was comply, pulling him into a hug. as yatora’s head fell against the other’s chest, a sigh of relief escaped his lips. he reciprocated the hug and buried his face in yakumo’s chest to hear the thump thump thumping of his heart.
he felt yakumo nuzzling into his hair saying, “hey, it’s okay. i’m not gonna leave you.”
yatora felt like crying again.
-
so there were good dreams and gruesome nightmares. yatora isn’t the biggest believer of fate and the like, but this was getting a bit out of hand.
he isn’t afraid to admit that he likes yakumo no matter how casual their current relationship seems. but with how long it’s been going on and with all his nightly adventures (sometimes unwanted) it’s getting too close to the next stage. the next category. or whatever you may call it.
yaguchi yatora is in love with murai yakumo and he dreams of them together in different lives. is he crazy in love or just plain crazy?
plus, wet dreams aren't anything weird. it shouldn’t be weird.
but when he dreams of yakumo (who looks so much more like the yakumo he knows than all the previous yakumos in his dreams) pounding him into a mattress saying filthy things a lot of things get harder (in all senses). somehow, this yakumo’s fangs were more pronounced than ever. yatora doesn’t even want to get into whatever the red substance was dripping from it really was.
all they’ve been doing is kissing and cuddling, a little bit of touching. no confessions or admissions of feelings. he hasn’t even seen yakumo’s dick yet.
and isn’t that odd? they make out every chance they get but none of them initiates to take it further.
now his first sighting of the other’s dick is from a dream. and this dream was one of the most vivid dreams he’s had so far. it makes him think that maybe this dream means more than just the sex. maybe it’s trying to tell him something.
or maybe he’s just really thirsty.
he’s not sure if he can face yakumo normally the next time they see each other.
-
“i didn’t need to hear this.” is what yotasuke first says upon yatora’s confession. yatora's not even sure how hashida got him to come here.
“don’t be so harsh on him, yatora is also a man you know,” hashida says from beside yotasuke, grin slowly going into the scary territory as a single eye opens to assess yatora’s blushing form.
and right beside yatora sits a giggling kuwana.
hashida was the one who set this whole meeting up. it wasn’t an unusual thing for them to meet up, sometimes the others from prep school hang out with them too, even ryuji (yatora isn’t sure how ryuji and hashida became friends but he’s not surprised).
after another dream (which started out simple enough but by the end of it involved things yatora didn’t even know he would ever be interested in) he panic texted hashida for advice.
though he’s sure they wouldn’t judge him (maybe just tease him at most), he wasn’t sure how to start the conversation with his highschool friends and so that ended up with him telling hashida. who in turn set up a meeting and invited the others.
burying his face in his hands yatora mumbles, “i don’t know what to do,”
“oh! but you know who you want to do, huh?” kuwana teases and he can hear hashida chuckling along with her. from his peripheral vision he thinks he saw yotasuke gag.
yatora groans.
“okay, i’m sorry! i couldn’t let the chance slip by,” kuwana tries to placate him but she’s still giggling all the while before she continues, “your super vivid sex dreams make a lot more sense. what’s intriguing are all the other dreams you have. like, how are you so sure it’s him when he looks different?”
though yatora has contemplated this by himself a concerning amount of times he can’t make sense out of it either. he just knows .
“this is going to sound really weird but i just know. i’m so sure it’s him and even i don’t know why i think so,” he admits.
yotasuke looks at him weirdly but tries, “maybe you should just tell him all of this and get it done with.”
“but it’ll end too soon! this is so interesting,” hashida says and now yatora suspects that hashida just sees this situation as entertainment.
“have you ever heard of soulmates, yatora? or reincarnation?” hashida says, switching his attention from yotasuke to yatora in an instant it makes him jump a bit in his seat.
“that actually sounds plausible!” kuwana adds with a snap of her fingers.
yatora mulls over the terms he’s given. soulmates? reincarnation? of course he’s heard of them before but, “i have, yeah. but isn’t that a bit too vague? and-”
admitting that he thinks yakumo is his soulmate is a bit too overwhelming for him. and the concept of reincarnation makes it so much more complicated. accepting this as a possibility is like saying he’s fated to murai yakumo and he’s not even sure how the other sees him as right now other than someone who’s fun to make out with.
“man, this is really stressing you out.” kuwana’s words break him out of his train of thought and he looks up to see her and hashida looking at him worriedly.
yotasuke has his gaze averted somewhere past him, “isn’t that him?”
turning around, yatora sees yakumo already waving at him, approaching their table with a grin.
“hey yotasuke, and yatora’s friends?” yakumo asks, plopping his head right on top of yatora’s and settling his hands on his shoulders.
though yatora only outwardly sighs at the familiar skinship, he’s internally panicking at the prospect of yakumo hearing even a little of what they were discussing.
“yeah. this is kuwana and that’s hashida,” he introduces. oddly enough, yakumo releases him to shake hands with kuwana and then turn to hashida.
when he does, it’s like there’s this sudden tension in the air. when the two shake hands, yatora can see how they’re both putting strength into their grip. yakumo grins and the first word that enters yatora’s mind is feral .
the face he’s making reminds yatora of one of his more unusual dreams. it wasn’t that the vision of it was clear, the scene was actually all blurred (though he’s sure this yakumo also had tattoos, all over his body in fact). what he felt was the want and desperation so strongly, like it was being pulled from deep within his core. in that dream, it felt almost as if he would die without yakumo touching him. there was this yearning that needed to be fulfilled (though yatora couldn’t fully understand it).
he suspects that the vision was all blurred because he was crying. he was in pain and the only one who could soothe it was yakumo.
“the name’s murai yakumo.”
snapping back to reality, yatora averts his gaze from the two while trying to quell his thoughts.
-
their group discussion doesn’t leave yatora’s mind even as he falls asleep.
every time he sleeps he tries to prepare himself for the worst. he can never be sure what kind of sight will greet him in his slumber. the nightmares aren’t as many as the pleasant dreams he’s had and even if he sees only flashes of it whenever it seems to be a bad dream he’d rather never have one of those again.
thankfully, tonight seems to be a kind one. he’s laying on a picnic blanket in a field of grass. the sun is gentle and there are kids playing around them. he’s holding hands with yakumo and all is at peace.
feeling a nudge at his side, he turns to see yakumo trying to feed him a strawberry.
“open up, sweetheart.”
yatora wakes up feeling all out of sorts just because of a single term of endearment.
-
ever since that time at the restaurant with his friends, yakumo has been a bit more clingy, a bit...sweeter.
they still make out every chance they get but there’s a lot more cuddling than before. yakumo has taken to giving yatora an innocent kiss wherever he can whenever they see each other.
he does it literally all the time – even with other people in the room.
though yatora gets a little pink, no one seems to be surprised by their actions. yatora doesn’t push him away and it’s not like they were ever hiding it. everyone’s been supportive of miki and ayano’s relationship so he more or less knows there won’t be an issue (right?).
he doesn’t know if hachiro and momo cooing at them every time means they knew all along or if it means something else completely.
-
later, when it’s just the two of them yakumo hugs him from behind, arms winding around his waist, “it makes me really happy when you let me kiss you in front of everyone, you know,”
“why wouldn’t i?” yatora says in response.
yakumo squeezes him a bit tighter before saying, “because i don’t know if you want to put a label on us yet, sweetheart ,”
immediately, yatora turns in his hold to see yakumo grinning at him (albeit nervously, almost unnoticeable to everyone else but obvious to a trained yatora).
wrapping his arms around yakumo’s neck, yatora challenges, “...you’ve never called me that before, have you?”
“i’m pretty sure i do. i call you that all the time, don’t i? i’m just getting started in this life. that is, if you’ll let me?” yakumo pulls him in even closer, already aiming for a kiss.
“only after you tell me about all the dreams you got.”
“dreams? i already knew everything before we even met in this life, sweetheart. i’ve always known. how many lifetimes did you think i waited for you? you sure took your time.” they’re both getting teary-eyed now, almost (absolutely) and yatora should’ve figured.
of course .
of course murai yakumo was waiting for him, like he always did in every lifetime.
through his tears, yatora manages to say, “then let me make it all up to you this time.”
they rediscover it’s difficult to kiss when they’re both smiling too much.
soon enough, yatora also learns that his “dreams” are all pretty accurate (in all senses).
