Notes:

Ok so I wrote this in like an hour, thanks to a convo with a certain someone. You know who you are. Lol. I liked it enough to share so here. Enjoy!

Work Text:

Mighty decides he doesn't like this place.

The streets are littered, houses are run down, but worse is that everyone on the street is glaring at him. He doesn't do well with negative attention.

He shouldn't have made that wrong turn. Sonic will laugh when he finds out.

But it wasn't Mighty's fault! This is a new city and the streets are confusing and narrow and not at all maintained. He knows Sonic and Shadow are supposed to be in the nice part of town, in a house recently flipped in an up and coming neighborhood, but he hasn't a clue where that is.

Mighty sighs thinking of the two. When Sonic invited him to visit, Mighty hesitated. It's been a while since he confessed his feelings for the hedgehog, but the rejection he was met with still stings.

But honestly, what did he expect?

By then, Shadow and Sonic had been together for months. It was short but enough time for Sonic to agree to move to Hydrocity to be with Shadow during a long mission. Not bearing to see the hedgehog leave, Mighty told him of all the feelings he had hidden over the years.

But it was a mute point.

Sonic let him down easy, with a gentleness that made Mighty's heart ache. And then he left.

It's been months. Eight months and seventeen days. Mighty thought he was over it. Over Sonic.

He was wrong.

Mighty sighs and closes his eyes to keep tears from spilling. He's so distracted that he doesn't see the yellow light shift to red before he can pass the intersection. He doesn't realize he's ran the red until his eyes snap open at the sound of sirens. He sees red and blue lights and his stomach drops.

Oh no.

Mighty pulls over and keeps his hands on the wheel. A large crocodile comes to his window and taps at him. He looks annoyed as hell to see Mighty, and it makes the armadillo shrink.

"What the hell are you doing out there?" The officer asks. He pulls out his ticket book and shakes his head. "Speeding and running a red light, what a shame."

Mighty opens his mouth to protest, because he's sure he was going the speed limit, but one glare from the officer makes him shut it with a soft click.

"Normally I'd leave things be, but you did this right in front of me, kid. I gotta do something about that, you get me?"

Mighty nods, tears welling up again. He's overwhelmed. New city, getting lost, seeing his former crush, now getting pulled over and needing to pay a ticket… can this day get any worse?

He hears a yell loud enough to make him flinch and then decides that yes, it can.

The officer's head whips around as he looks for the source of the noise. His stare lands in front of Mighty's car. The armadillo turns to see too. And he's shocked.

In front of his car stands a bright green hedgehog, about the same height and build of Sonic. He wears a leather jacket with studs on the shoulders, and flames on the sleeve. On his torso is a set of scares that makes Mighty cringe in phantom pain. His red sunglasses sit on his forehead and he wears a panicked expression.

"Yo, copper! Didn't you hear that shit down the street?"

The cop cocks his head.

"What?"

"The shots! Didn't you hear the shots? Someone is lying on the street dying!"

"Where?" The crocodile's tone is deathly serious. "Sutton and Chambers, right around the corner." The cop doesn't waste time. He runs to his car, hops in, and drives away, tires screeching and sirens blaring.

As soon as the car passes, the hedgehog's expression changes from panicked to satisfied. Mighty doesn't know what to make of it.

The hedgehog saunters over, all confidence and swagger. Mighty gulps and his grip on the steering wheel tightens. When the hedgehog reaches his window, Mighty is taken aback by startling blue eyes and a smile that's all teeth.

"You alright?" The mysterious hedgehog's voice is scratchy, thick with Hydrocity accent. Mighty kinda likes it.

"Uh, yeah. What did you do? If you don't mind me asking? Like, why?"

The hedgehog looks both ways before his grin impossibly widens. "Got you off, that's what! That's Hydrocity love, baby!" He laughs and wipes away a tear from his eye. "You ain't from around here, huh?"

Mighty half smiles. "That obvious?"

"Hell yeah, a pretty thing like you shouldn't be driving round these parts. It ain't safe birdy."

Mighty blushes and coughs, turning his head to break eye contact. The hedgehog laughs, but it doesn't feel harsh. It feels… fond.

"So you're a shy one. That's cute. Means I gotta work for it."

Might whips his head to stare at the hedgehog. "Work for what ?"

The hedgehog winks. "You'll find out, if you wanna fuck around."

Mighty's face heats up further and he shakes his head. "You're a strange one…" he trails off as he realizes something. "Your name is?"

"The name's Scourge," the green hedgehog says with a pound of his chest. "And don't you forget it," he says with another wink.

"How could I," Might says with a soft smile.

Fast as light, the hedgehog pulls out a pen and a small slip of paper. He scrawls something down and passes the paper to Mighty. After a moment's hesitation, Mighty takes it.

"Don't be a stranger." It's the last thing Scourge says.

In an instant he's gone, leaving nothing but wind in his wake. Mighty glances at the slip of paper and sees a phone number written in messy writing. He gulps. He places the paper in his cup holder, makes sure his GPS is headed to the right address, and heads off.

He eventually turns into the driveway to Sonic and Shadow's temporary home. He grabs the slip of paper, fully intending to throw it away once inside. But he stops. He glances at the number once more, stomach doing flips.

That guy was pretty cute. His attitude was strangely attractive, and his confidence was undeniable. Mighty shakes his head and laughs, pulling out his phone to shoot a simple text.

What does he have to lose?

Let me know what you think! Might continue this. Who knows...
