Work Text:

“Mind if I join you?”

Law looked up with a scowl. After a long, noisy day, she’d finally gotten some peace and quiet.

“Cut the crap. It’s your ship, isn’t it, Nico Robin?”

Robin smiled and took a seat beside Law, leaning against the railing. She’d been curious about the other captain since they’d left Punk Hazard together — since before then, really. Since Sabaody, and the Rocky Port Incident in the papers, and even before that, since the blurry drawing of Law’s dirty teenage face had been splattered across bounty posters in the North Blue. Robin kept tabs on everything — it was in her nature. Trafalgar Law just happened to be one of those tabs.

The Surgeon of Death. She hadn’t appeared particularly trustworthy, in Robin’s eyes. Robin had tried to warn Luffy.

But Law had helped them. More than she had to and, under the ice cold exterior, a sliver of her true nature had gotten through. And she’d risked her life before that too, during the war, to save Luffy’s life. Robin had been troubled back then, convinced that Law was manipulating them in some way, moving them around like pieces on a chess board.

But then she’d met Law, really met her, and, well, that suspicion had quieted into something different. A quiet but pressing curiosity.

A breeze blew past the two of them. It was a little too cold to be comfortable, now that the sun was gone, stars twinkling in a cloudless night sky.

“Forgive me for asking,” Robin said. “But I can’t help but wonder. Why did you really get on this ship? What are you trying to do?”

Law snorted. She didn’t even look over. “That’s fresh, coming from you. Don’t think I don’t know all about you.”

“You have no reason to ally with us.”

“Right. March up to Doflamingo’s empire without any backup. Because that would be so effective.”

“Is that what we are? Your cannon fodder?”

Finally, Law glanced over, meeting Robin’s eyes. The corner of her lip curved up into a smirk. A strand of black hair hung in her face. Under the moon, she looked absolutely devilish.

Robin blinked. Her heart skipped, and it caught her off guard.

“What if I say yes?” Law taunted. “What will you do?”

Robin recovered quickly. “Doesn’t bother me. Our crew is strong. We agreed to help you, after all.”

Law hesitated for a moment, narrowing her eyes at Robin. She hadn’t expected such acquiescence. “Don’t overestimate yourself,” she finally spoke, a bitterness to her words. “You’ve only fought small fries so far. The Donquixote family is nothing like that, they’ll — ,”

“You’re awfully macabre, aren’t you?” Robin said, cutting Law off. She propped her cheek up with a hand, leaning closer.

“Look who’s fucking talking.”

“I didn’t say it was a bad thing. I find it charming.”

“What the hell does that mean?” Law grumbled, looking away. If she didn’t know better, it was like Robin was flirting with her. Which was — yeah, right . Still, she felt awkward, and rubbed the back of her neck, cheeks turning pink.

“You’re quite attractive as well,” Robin continued, pushing her luck further. “Contrary to what your moniker suggests, you’re really a sight for sore eyes.”

That was as much as Law could take. A blue ring appeared in her hand, a murderous glare fixed on Robin. “Keep joking around, and see what fucking happens.”

Laughing, Robin held her hands up to signal surrender. “I wasn’t joking!”

Law rolled her eyes and let the room fade out, readjusting Kikoku against her shoulder. Her face was slightly flushed. She started to feel foolish for reacting so dramatically.

“You lot are so fucking weird,” she said with finality and turned away.

Robin chuckled again, getting to her feet and patting the dust off her pants. “It seems I’ve overstayed my welcome. I’m on first watch, so I’ll be around if you need anything.”

Law grunted, refusing to make eye contact. But when Robin walked away, Law couldn’t help but stare after her.

Robin couldn’t get the Heart Captain off her mind.

It was a long, long way to Dressrosa. The days dragged together, melting in the hot sun.

Robin knew it wasn’t right. It was just an alliance. She’d never been one to pursue someone — not in that sense, anyway. It had always been about survival. It wasn’t until she joined the Straw Hats that she’d even had room to breathe.

She glanced up from her book. She’d been rereading the same paragraph for almost an hour. On the other side of the deck, Law had slipped out of her long coat, leaving her in just a white tank top as she sat on the railing, staring out at the clear horizon.

Black tattoos coated her arms and hands, the spiral of a heart peeking out from her chest under the tank. She wasn’t wearing anything underneath.

For the millionth time, Robin felt her eyes drawn to the curve of Law’s perky breasts through that thin ribbed fabric, hiding close to nothing —

God, she felt like such a creep. Snapping out of it, she looked back down at her book, taking a big gulp of the ice cold lemonade Sanji had just brought up.

Sometimes, she understood him. Seeing a beautiful woman could really turn you into a different person.

But even Sanji seemed hesitant to fall into his usual swooning routine. Law was terrifying like that, something inherently disquieting about her. Maybe it was the reputation. It kept people away.

Well, most people. It didn’t quite work on Robin. In fact, it had the opposite effect.

In some ways, Robin saw herself in Law. Independent but lonely. Calculating. But Law was grittier, wilder. Driven by revenge. She was fascinating. She was hot. Robin couldn’t for the life of her stay away.

Finally, she got her chance.

They docked at a small island to restock. Usually, Zoro stayed to watch the ship (i.e. nap) but this time, he wandered off in search of a new haramaki. So Robin volunteered to stick around instead.

“I’ll stay too,” Law declared, pointedly looking away from Robin. After the rest bounded off into the town, the ship became quiet. Serene, even. Robin sat down with her book. On the other side of the deck, Law lounged in the sun.

Half the day passed. No one came back, and Robin realized that it was around the time Sanji would usually have prepared a midday meal. She’d grown so used to having him around, she’d all but forgotten that she had to feed herself.

Her book shut with a thud. She strode over to Law’s splayed out body, casting a shadow.

“Hungry?”

Law squinted up at her, using a hand to block out the sun. She stared Robin down, like she was trying to read her mind, drag out what Robin was really thinking. Finally, she grinned, like she’d just discovered a terrible secret.

“Are you ?”

Robin tilted her head, considering. An arm blossomed out of the planks beside Law’s head, and tugged the spotted cap off her head. It flew through the air, into Robin’s outstretched hand. “Would you like to find out?”

Indignant, Law jumped to her feet, hair messy and falling in her face. “Give it back!”

Robin ignored her, instead turning and strolling casually into the cabin. She made it as far as the aquarium, before Law spun her around by the shoulder, pinning her against the glass. A school of forage fish scattered at the impact. It hurt, a little, her back thudding. She clutched the fuzzy hat to her chest like a last line of defense. It was surprisingly soft.

“I’ll be taking that.” Law plucked the thing out of Robin’s hands, returning it to its rightful place on her head.

Feeling a little breathless, Robin watched as Law turned to leave.

“Wait —,”

Law turned, one hand on the door. “What?”

“Don’t you want to — ,”

Robin couldn’t find the words. She was nervous, uncharacteristically so. Law waited, impatient, raising an eyebrow.

What did she want to say? She had to say something.

“Come back here.”

“Why should I?”

Robin took a breath. “I have something to say to you.”

Law shook her head in disbelief. Still, she approached, creeping like a cat.

“Gonna harass me again?” Law griped, “Bet you got a kick out of that.”

“You sound so cold,” Robin remarked. “I could almost believe you’re not interested.”

“In what, exactly? I know you don’t trust me. I’m not gonna play your little mind game, Nico Robin.”

Robin sighed. She watched as Law plopped herself down on the divan in the corner, kicking her feet up haphazardly. “Whatever you wanna say, just get it over with.”

“I’m afraid it’s a bit difficult to sum up,” Robin said, approaching. She slipped onto the divan, next to Law’s legs. She sat nicely, all elegant and ladylike. She could tell that the proximity made Law uneasy. But, for the sake of her pride, or whatever other reason, Law didn’t move. Her legs felt warm, through the denim, pressing against Robin’s back.

“Then get on with it,” Law said grumpily, crossing her arms..

Robin smiled, and clasped her hands in front of her. “I’ve been thinking about you.”

Instantly, Law rolled her eyes, making to up and leave. “Come on, not this again.”

“Wait —,” Robin grabbed Law’s wrist. Law tensed, eyes narrowing at the contact. Robin’s hand was slender and pretty, the fingers surprisingly warm. Though her grip was gentle, it was firm.

“I’m serious, Law,” Robin tried. “I… can’t get you out of my head. I don’t normally do this. You’re just —,” she bit her lip.

Law snorted. “What? The first girl you’ve been around in ages, besides that noisy navigator? Give me a break.”

Robin frowned. “Don’t treat me like a child. I’m older than you. I know what I like.”

“So what? You want me to call you mommy or something?”

Robin smiled sweetly. “Is that what you’d like? Do you have — issues of that nature?”

“In your fucking dreams,” Law grumbled, staring off with a disinterested mask, ignoring the light blush rising on her cheeks. It was hard to see, the only light the filtered-out sun swimming through the aquarium.

Robin leaned forward, tentatively. Seeing if Law would back down. She didn’t. Law’s eyes were bright, but they didn’t have any affection or warmth in them. Just the thrill of a challenge.

“You know,” Robin said, tracing a finger down Law’s clothed abdomen. It was delicate, and didn’t have to mean anything. “You’re very tense, Surgeon of Death.”

Law huffed. “You and your crew stress me out.”

Robin’s mouth twitched up. “Yes, I’m sure that’s the problem. On behalf of my terrible crew, why don’t I help you relieve some tension?”

Law bit her lip. Of course she’d seen this coming. She watched as Robin’s nails glided feather-light up her shirt, between her breasts, and up to her exposed collarbones. The touch was surprisingly warm. It tickled.

“And how exactly are you going to do that, Nico Robin? Get rid of me while no one else is watching?”

Robin laughed. She withdrew her hand, pushing the hair out of her face. “You’re quite paranoid.”

“Around someone like you? Yeah, of course I’m fucking paranoid.”

Robin bit back her grin. She liked this side of Law, snarky and playful. She’d expected nothing less. “Then maybe I ought to prove my intentions to you.”

Law raised an eyebrow.

Not breaking eye contact, Robin crept off the divan, slipping onto her knees in front. Smiling, she pulled Law by the thighs to the edge.

“How pathetic,” Law spat, but it sounded weak. She was clearly the flustered one. Her face was red, it was obvious even under the cerulean aquarium lighting.

“Sure, it’s a bit cliche,” Robin remarked, slipping the top button open on Law’s jeans. “But I can’t help it — I’m old fashioned, after all.”

Law lifted her hips, a little more eagerly than she liked, to let Robin slide the denim off her legs. “You better make it good,” she said, steeling her expression even as her heartbeat quickened. “Don’t waste my damn time.”

Robin ignored her, instead turning her attention to the silky black panties Law wore. They even had a bit of lace detailing on them — fancier than anything Robin had seen in a while. “Trying to impress someone?” she teased, snapping the side against Law’s hip.

Law’s face got redder. “I ran out of normal underwear.”

“I’m sure,” Robin agreed conscientiously, and she raised one of Law’s supple thighs over her shoulder, pressing her lips to the soft skin.

Mmph — ,” Law made a sound of surprise, before shutting her mouth, embarrassed.

“You don’t have to be quiet,” Robin coaxed, kissing upwards. “I want to hear you.”

“Y-You won’t hear a damn thing.”

Law clenched her fists at her sides, watching as Robin’s lips trailed closer to her core. She wasn’t shy about her body, or about sex, but she couldn’t help but feel apprehensive. It wasn’t often that Law came across someone like Robin. Someone who, maybe, knew more about the world than she did. Who’d seen more, experienced more, suffered more, lost more. But Robin was that. She was the Devil Child from the stories, after all.

Robin was beautiful, something elusive and aristocratic about her sculpted features, her distant demeanor. Law was sure she didn’t just chase after anybody. What were her expectations? Law was sure she wouldn’t live up to them. She was just a lost, straggling pirate after all.

Who fucking cares, Law told herself, swallowing down the swelling wave of insecurity. She wanted Robin to leave her alone anyway.

So she let her head fall back as Robin finally pressed her lips to the front of her underwear.

“You’re quite lovely, you know?” Robin said, biting at the fabric and letting it snap back. “I feel quite honored you’re letting me do this.”

“Who’s letting you do anything,” Law scowled, avoiding eye contact.

“You can’t hide how wet you are,” Robin said. “It’s soaking through your panties.”

Law grit her teeth, ignoring how — small that made her feel on the inside. With one gentle motion, Robin pushed the thin fabric to the side, revealing Law’s dripping wet pussy.

Even though it was dim in the galley, Robin could see well enough to admire it. “How pretty,” she said, looking up at Law’s blushing face. “Are you embarrassed?”

“Of course not!” Law snapped. “Just — get on with it already, would you?”

“As you wish,” Robin winked. She took her time, exploring slowly with her tongue. Law tasted opulent, dangerous, an undertone of sweetness. Her clit poked out of the hood, shiny and sensitive. Robin flicked it with her tongue, and Law hissed, thighs shaking minutely.

“Feels good?” Robin murmured, running her tongue in circles around the pink nub.

Law bit her lip, trying not to let out the pathetic sounds she wanted to. “It’s alright,” she gritted out.

Robin hummed, letting the vibrations stimulate Law to her core. Her hands traveled up Law’s abdomen, pushing her tank top up, until it was scrunched on top of her perky breasts. Her thumbs brushed over the nipples, already erect and excited.

Law bit down hard on her lower lip to keep quiet. It had been so long since someone had pleasured her like this. Sure, she’d fucked people, but it had always been quick and mindless, mechanical and zoned out. This was totally different. Robin was still looking at her, like she gave a fuck, like she was drinking in every little expression on Law’s face.

“Come on, Trafalgar,” Robin said, her lips wet and shiny. “Don’t keep yourself quiet. Let me hear you.”

“Don’t get ahead of yourself,” Law said, glaring, but already her voice sounded strained.

“Just wanna know that you feel good,” Robin said, so earnest with her pretty eyes shining.

Law inhaled. Tentatively, she let a small sound out. Just a little hum, but Robin’s reaction was immediate. She moaned, and let her eyes fall closed, lapping at Law’s dripping slit with renewed vigor. A bit dazed by Robin’s enthusiasm, Law forgot to hold back and whined, legs falling apart wider.

Law felt a set of fingers slip inside her, smooth and easy since she was so wet. It felt so good to have something inside, she couldn’t help but gasp, arching her back. She looked down.

Robin’s hands were still clasping her breasts. There was another arm, blooming out of the divan between her legs, with its fingers inside her.

Oh, that was right. Robin could make limbs grow out of thin air. It sent an unexpected wave of heat through Law.

Robin’s soft lips wrapped around her clit, tongue running over it again and again. The fingers inside of her curved up, just so, pressing against something sensitive inside of her. Law cried out — she couldn’t help it. It was too much, overwhelming. A knee-jerk reaction, her hands flew down frantically, trying to push Robin away. But she found her wrists gripped, and yanked back toward her head.

Staring upward in disbelief, she saw another pair of hands sticking out of the glass above her, holding her arms tight over her head.

“Just stay still and take it like a good girl, will you?” Robin said, all sly and victorious, and Law — well, she wanted to get a jab in, something snarky, but the fingers inside of her curved just so, and instead she was panting, and she forgot how to find the words. Her hips jerked up involuntarily.

She was fucking up into Robin’s mouth, and it was embarrassing, but she couldn’t hold back. She was starting to get close.

“That’s right, you feel good, don’t you?”

Law whined. “F-Faster,” she panted, her hair all mussed up and sticking to her forehead. Robin replaced her tongue with her thumb, rubbing Law’s slick-covered clit in fast circles. She added another finger inside of Law, pressing relentlessly at her swelling g-spot.

“You’re gonna come for me, aren’t you, pretty?”

“Not — ah — for you —,” Law gasped, head falling back and eyes getting unfocused. She was getting really close.

“Stop thinking, baby,” Robin cooed. “That’s right. Just let it all out.”

Law bit her lip so hard it drew blood. The pleasure built and built and then — taking her by surprise, hips jerking and toes curling, she came. Her burning hot pussy pulsed around Robin’s fingers. She was drooling out the corner of her mouth.

She looked utterly undone and debauched. Robin finally slipped the fingers out and licked them off, one by one, before letting all the extra limbs dissipate. Law quickly sat up. She tugged her tank top down and fixed her panties, groping around for her jeans.

“Such a rush,” Robin remarked, holding the denim out to Law. “Didn’t you like it?”

Law was still short of breath. She couldn’t meet Robin’s eyes, humiliated at how fucking licentious she’d just acted.

“You proved your point,” Law snapped, struggling to squeeze her sweaty legs into the skinny jeans.

Robin sat back, giving Law her space. At some point, the spotted hat had tumbled onto the floor  — Law hadn’t even noticed. Robin handed it back to her, and she blushed, pulling it on with unnecessary aggression.

“I wasn’t just trying to prove a point,” said Robin quietly. She was a little disheveled. Hair all over the place, lips pink and a little swollen. She leaned forward, chin resting on the divan seat, beside Law’s knees. In the surreal light, she looked almost — vulnerable.

“I’m interested in you,” Robin continued, calm and earnest.

Law met her eyes, and immediately regretted it. Robin was gorgeous. “Whatever. I’m sure you say that to everyone.”

Robin shrugged. “To be honest, I’ve never been this attracted to anyone before. But I don’t mean to put pressure on you. I’ll be as casual as you want.”

Law blushed harder, scrambling to her feet. How could Robin admit something like that so easily? She needed to get out of there immediately.

“I’ll — I’ll think about it,” she finally said, a half-assed reply, before darting as fast as she could towards the door.

Cute, Robin thought.

=

“You like that? It’s what you wanted, right?”

Law gripped Kikoku by the blade and pushed the ridged handle in deeper.

Robin got the feeling that she might have gotten in over her head.

“It’s cold,” Robin said, trying to sound as noncommittal as she possibly could. She didn’t want Law to know just how turned on she really was, even though it was a little obvious. She was gushing, after all.

“I bet,” Law smirked, pulling it out then thrusting it back in hard. “I’m surprised you can still feel anything down here. How many men have you fucked just to keep a roof over your head?”

“Is that your dirty talk? Or are you just insulting me?”

“Both? You’re fucking wet, so it must be working.”

Robin laughed, the sound higher pitched than usual, a little breathless. “I haven’t slept around as much as you think. I prefer assassination.”

That made Law huff. “Really? How many kills do you have, then?” She brushed her thumb over Robin’s clit, reveling in the way it made Robin jump, a soft sound escaping her lips.

“Not as many as you, I bet — ah! ,” Robin gasped out. Law had changed the angle of Kikoku, pressing against something swelling inside of Robin. “Shit, that’s — ,”

Law had never seen Robin lose her cool before. Impassioned, she picked up the pace. Robin started to pant, the thrusts making her bosom bounce. A light sheen covered her face, and her eyes were becoming lidded, pleasure building in her gut.

“What, you gonna come soon?” Law taunted. “So fast? Like a fucking virgin?”

“You — you’re so crass, Trafalgar, it’s — ,” Robin gasped, feeling Law’s thumb speed up on her clit. Law leaned over and spat on it, dropping a big heaping glob of spit on there. It felt so wet and dirty. Robin was close. It didn’t help looking at that wicked glint in Law’s eyes.

Law smirked. “Like what you see?”

Robin didn’t even try to hide it. She nodded, and her hips started to move on their accord, rocking themselves together with Kikoku to fuck herself down harder onto it.

“Holy fuck , you’re such a slut,” Law said in amazement, and she was sneering like she didn’t give a damn, but her pupils were wide. She hadn’t seen anything so hot before in her whole life.

“L-Law, I’m close —,” Robin covered her mouth, afraid someone might overhear, “I’m gonna — fuck , gonna —,”

“That’s right. You’re gonna come just from this, aren’t you? So fucking easy —,”

Robin went over the edge. She bit her lip hard to muffle her shouts. Her toes curled, and her pussy gushed, clenching in uncontrollable waves around the hard, unfeeling Kikoku. Law milked her through it, stroking her clit gently, until the pleasure had calmed into gentle ripples, little jerks of overstimulation.

“That was quite unexpected,” Robin finally said, still breathing hard, sitting up and watching Kikoku slide out of her. It was filthy with her juices.

Law made a face. “Don’t know why I did that. Now I have to clean it.”

“Shouldn’t that be quite easy, if you use your fruit?”

Law rolled her eyes. Leaning back and watching lazily as Robin pulled her robe back on. It really didn’t cover much — there wasn’t much point to wearing it.

Robin leaned forward, grinning. The robe fell open and showed her breasts in full. “Want me to return the favor?”

Law scoffed. “Do you know how late it is? I’m getting to bed.”

“You sure?” Robin raised an eyebrow. “I don’t mind at all.”

“Well, I do,” Law shot back. “I’ve had enough for today.” She opened a blue Room in her palm, just big enough to surround Kikoku. With a wave of her hand, it was spotless. Without another word, she turned and sulked off to another corner of the ship.

Robin covered her mouth with a hand and giggled. Law was so silly. But how incredible that had been.

=

much later~

“So,” Robin mused, rolling the name on her tongue. “Trafalgar D. Water Law?”

Law rolled her eyes. “If you don’t know what it means, then stop bringing it up.”

“Luffy has a D in his name, too. How interesting.”

“Don’t be ridiculous,” Law scoffed. “I have nothing in common with that idiot.”

Robin laughed, her eyes turning to crescents, a slender hand covering her mouth. “Whatever you say.”

“You’re such a pain,” Law grumbled, leaning back against the ruins.

A serious expression came over Robin’s face. She reached over and took hold of Law’s wrist.

“Law, be careful during the raid, okay?”

Law pulled her arm away, glaring. “Speak for yourself. I’ll be fine.”

Robin sighed. She propped her head up on one hand, staring openly at Law. Over time, she’d gotten so used to the other’s presence. Her striking features. That edge in her eyes, the almost-evil glint of her smirk. She was a 10/10, but more than that she was a person with such unending depth. Robin wanted to dive inside her mind and swim around for hours. She was smart — book smart, and quick on her feet, and strong, so strong —

Sure, Robin was a little attached. More than a little, maybe.

“These are serious enemies,” Robin tried again. “I know you’re strong. Just —,”

“What, you don’t want me to die or something?” Law teased, leaning forward and biting her lip.

“I’m being serious,” Robin tried, but it was too late. Law was crawling over, straddling herself in Robin’s lap.

“If I’m gone, then no one’s gonna be around to fuck you good, huh?” She said softly, voice turning into honey in Robin’s ear. “How selfish of you.”

“Law,” Robin sighed, a little frustrated, trying to decide whether to try again or just give in to the diversion.

Law nipped at Robin’s ear. “It’s okay, Robin, I understand. I’ll be careful, okay?”

Robin felt something inside of her finally settle down, an overflowing bucket finally start to drain.

“That’s good,” she said. “That’s —,”

She was cut off. Law was kissing her. Robin’s eyes fell shut. They hadn’t kissed much, despite everything. It was always the desperate rutting in the dark, eye contact and snarky remarks, and even when things changed, when rivalry became camaraderie, they rarely did this. Lips pressed together, soft and gentle. Law’s mischievous tongue darting out, parting Robin’s lips.

“Wish I’d done this more,” Law murmured, nipping at Robin’s bottom lip.

“It’s not too late,” Robin said, bringing her arms around Law’s waist to pull her closer.

“But —,”

But Robin cut her off, instead kissing her deeper. Because she knew. There was a war coming. Not just Onigashima, but after that. The entire world was coming to a head. The crew didn’t get it — not Nami, not Zoro, or Franky, and certainly not Luffy — but Robin and Law, they both understood. Nothing would quite be the same after.

They might not make it.

“I’ll see you again,” Robin said, whispering against Law’s lips, their foreheads pressed together. “Soon. You’ll see.”

“Yeah,” said Law. She bit her lip. “I… I was wrong about you.”

Robin smiled, and they slid onto their sides on the floor, wrapped up in each other for their tiny, expiring little pocket of time.

And then there was the sound of thunder above, and it was time —

=

“North-east is the fastest route,” Law said, feeling like she was stating the obvious. She scoffed at the two idiots, Luffy and Kidd, still bickering and fighting like children.

The Polar Tang was ready. Bepo had finished bidding farewell to the Minks. It was time to go.

Law glanced toward the Sunny. It was all the way on the other side of the shore. There was no reason to go over there. If she squinted, she could make out a figure standing on the deck. It was too far away to see the details. She wondered if Robin was looking this way.

It was foolish. They’d had their time. All the celebrations and late nights, sneaking off — they’d said their goodbyes. But Law couldn’t help but wish for just once more. The truth was, all the time in the world still wouldn’t be enough.

Law took her hat off. Then she went inside, and gave orders to submerge.

Notes:

yes they will see each other again! *praying*
