Here's Looking at You, Kid

Summary:

Tony and Gibbs go on their first date.

"Tony was so glad that he agreed to actually date and not just jump in bed. It made all of the effort Gibbs put into this, that much more meaningful."

Notes:

So here's the first date! I hope you guys enjoy this! I really enjoy writing these guys and I am in love with this version of them and I hope y'all are too. If you have any date ideas or anything you want to see in the series, just leave a comment and let me know!

I don't know if I'm really going to make the team a big part of this, but if I do, it's not going to be favorable for Ziva and Abby, so just a heads up for the future!

Of course, all mistakes are my own.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Tony always prided himself on his undercover skills. He knew that he was a very sought-after agent for those skills. He had gone undercover and taken down the head of a mob family. He's gone undercover with a serial killer and as a serial killer and not to mention the whole undercover operation for Director Shepherd.

So, Tony was very confident in going into the work the next morning and acting like nothing had changed between him and Gibbs.   That confidence, however, only lasted until he made it into the elevator and Gibbs slipped in just before the doors closed.

Tony wanted to say something, but before he could Gibbs reached out and pushed the emergency stop button. Tony turned to make a smartass remark about that one fantasy he had that included being in the elevator with Gibbs, but was stopped when Gibbs pushed him against the wall and kissed him.

Tony didn't hesitate to return the kiss and just when he was starting to feel himself harden, Gibbs backed off and chuckled.

"That…that was cruel, Jet." Tony whined as he reached back out to tug Gibbs closer.

"I couldn't help myself." Gibbs said as he allowed himself to be pulled back to Tony.

"What was that even for?"

"I missed you and I couldn't wait to do that until tonight."

"Yeah?" Tony asked with a big grin.  Who knew that Gibbs, no not Gibbs, Jet, would be so open and dare he even say romantic. "What are we doing tonight?"

Tony watched as a shit eating grin appeared on Gibbs face and the man stepped back and pressed the button to get the elevator back going. Just before the doors opened Gibbs turned and said, "Just dress casual."

After the elevator, it was hard for Tony to focus on anything else for the rest of the day.  He knew he was doing a bad job of acting normal when both Ziva and McGee kept sending him weird looks, but the glare coming from Gibbs was enough to keep them from asking him anything.

By the time five o'clock rolled around, Tony was ready to get out of there. He didn't want to stick around to deal with Ziva and McGee and their questions they would undoubtably have.

Also, he had to hurry home and try to figure out what to wear tonight. It didn't help that all Gibbs told him was to dress casual. Tony figured that his  definition of casual wasn’t the same as Gibbs'.

Tony hurried home and fixed himself a glass of wine, took a shower and did his hair and skin care routine and now he was standing in front of closet trying to figure out what to wear.  He glanced at the clock and groaned when he realized that he only had fifteen minutes before Gibbs would be there.

After finally picking out the pair of black jeans that he knew made his ass look good and a maroon sweater that went well with his skin tone, Tony just finished putting on his shoes when there was a knock on the door.  He couldn't help the smile that grew in anticipation that he was about to see Jet, even though he only saw him a few hours ago.

Tony hurried to the door and when he opened it, he let out a little gasp at seeing Gibbs. Gibbs, no Jet, Tony corrected himself, was dressed jeans and a white button up top with the sleeves rolled up.  Tony had never seen his boss dressed like this and it really did something for Tony.

"You going to let me in or are you going to just stand there staring?" Gibbs grumbled, but there was a smile on his face.

Tony couldn't help but blush and he tried to hide it by moving aside and letting Gibbs in.

It wasn't until Jet leaned forward and kissed his cheek softly did Tony realize that the older man had something in his hand.  Tony looked down and couldn't help but laugh.

"You got me flowers?" He asked, grinning as he took them.

"I know you're not a girl, but I thought you would appreciate the gesture."

Tony could see there was a hint of nervousness and doubt in Gibbs eyes and he just couldn’t let the man think that.

Tony leaned forward and gave him a soft kiss on the lips.  "I absolutely love the flowers. Thank you. Now, let me put these in water and then we can go." He found an old vase, filled it with water and put the flowers in it. He couldn't help but lean forward and breathed in the scent of the flowers. He grinned and then turned to Gibbs, "Alright, I'm ready."

He followed Gibbs to his truck and couldn't help but blush again when the older man opened the trucks door.

"Really pulling out all the stops." Tony teased as he slid into the passenger's seat.

Tony couldn't help but smile proudly as Gibbs laughed and shut the door. He got a small thrill in being able to be the one to make the always stoic and hard to please man, not only smile, but laugh. Tony promised himself that he would always try and be the one to make Gibbs smile and laugh and to make him the happiest man on this planet.

Once Gibbs got in the car, it wasn't long before they made it to the restaurant.  Tony was surprised that Gibbs actually picked a pretty fancy Italian restaurant.  Tony figured he would have picked a more casual steakhouse place, but he felt a warm tingling feeling inside knowing that Gibbs picked something outside of his comfort zone but something that he knew Tony would like.

They didn't have to wait long before they were seated and the food was ordered.  There was a lull in conversation, and for the first time ever Tony really didn't know what to say.

"Um so I guess this is the part where we normally would get to know each other, but I don't think there's anything we don't know about the other one." Tony remarked.

"I guess you're right." Jethro agreed. "There is one thing I don't know, though."

"Yeah? What's that?"

"Have you ever been with a guy a before?"

Tony could feel his face heat up at the unexpected question.  They've always talked about past relationships, so Tony didn't know why this question was making him blush.  He guessed that since they were now in a relationship, it was different.  He just hoped that the dim lighting of the restaurant would hide that fact from Jet.

"Well, there was few, but nothing serious and it was a long time ago. Before NCIS." And you, Tony didn't say but knew Jethro would pick up on it.

"Same.  Except mine was way back during the marines."

"So, this is both of ours first serious relationship with a man. I guess we get to figure it out together." Tony couldn't help but grin when Gibbs reached out and held his hand across the table and smiled in agreement.

"Of course we couldn't do it the easy way." Tony pointed out.

"What do you mean?"

"Well, we're both in law enforcement that deal with the military, both of which is not always the most open minded. Add to that fact that we're boss and subordinate.  Vance already doesn't like me and this is just the excuse he could use to send me to the middle of nowhere."

"I won't let that happen. The only way you leave my team is if you want to. And even then I'd only let you go if it was to lead your own team. I'm not going to let anybody else separate us."

Tony looked down at their hands, pleased at how determined Jet was that nothing could separate them.  Not even the director.

"I guess that means we should keep this quiet. At least for now. "

"Right." Gibbs agreed. "Let us figure this out on our own, without the team's input, plus the less people know the less trouble there will be."

Just then the waiter came with their food and conversation was put on hold.  They ate quickly and after Jethro paid for the bill, they were walking back to the truck.  Tony hated that the date was already nearing the end.  He wished he could go back to Gibbs house, but knew it would be too much temptation and he wanted to actually do this dating thing without having to worry about sex.  At least for now.

Once seated in the truck, Tony reached out and intertwined their fingers.  "I had a really good time tonight.  I hate to see it end."

"Well that’s good, since it's not over yet."  Gibbs replied with a cheeky smile.

Tony glanced up at Gibbs in surprise. The man had already exceeded Tony's expectations, and Tony didn't know what else Jet could have planned for tonight.

"Really? You planned something else? What is it?"

"It's a surprise."

"Oh come on Jet! Can't you just tell me, please?" Tony couldn't help but push out his lower lip and beg just a little.  He could almost see Jet relent but then the man smiled and brought their hands up to his lips and gave Tony a kiss.

"You'll just have to wait and see.  It's just up the road."

With that, Gibbs pulled out of the parking lot and headed toward their destination. It wasn't until they pulled up to the open field and Tony saw all the parked cars and the big projection screen, did Tony realize what Gibbs had planned.

"A drive in? You're taking me to see a movie at a drive in?" Tony asked, surprised.

"Yeah, if that’s okay with you? I brought some blankets and pillows and thought we could get comfortable in the bed of the truck."

"Okay?  Its more than okay. This is the best date I've ever been on. I love it, Jet. You're absolutely amazing."

Tony really couldn't tell in the dark, but he was pretty sure that last statement had made the older man blush.  He would just have to repeat it in the day light so he could actually see Leroy Jethro Gibbs blush.

Once they pulled up to their spot, Gibbs got out to set up the blankets and pillows in the bed and Tony went in search of snacks.  When Tony returned, he only hesitated for a minute before Gibbs lifted an arm and Tony, not misunderstanding the invitation, quickly climbed into the bed of truck and leaned against Gibbs chest.

"So what movie are we watching? Or is that a surprise too?" Tony asked as settled in with Jet's arm wrapped around him.

"Casablanca. Thought you would enjoy a classic."

Tony beamed up at Gibbs and showed him how appreciative he was by giving him a thorough kiss.

When the movie started to play, Tony sighed in pure happiness.  He felt so comfortable wrapped up in Jet's embrace that he never wanted to leave this moment. Tony was so glad that he agreed to actually date and not just jump in bed. It made all of the effort Gibbs put into this, that much more meaningful.  And to know that Gibbs, who didn't like fancy restaurants or movies, planned this date that was out of his comfort zone just to make Tony happy, made Tony feel special.

"Did you know," Tony whispered. "That one of the most popular quotes from this movie, "Play it again, Sam" is never actually said.  Ilas says "Play it once, Sam" and "Play it, Sam" and Rick also says "Play it". But they never say "Play it again-""

Tony is interrupted  by Jet's lips on his and before he knows it, he is leaning into Gibbs and moaning.  Just when he was getting lost in the kiss, Gibbs pulled back and raised an eyebrow at Tony. "Well, that’s one way to shut you up."

Tony blushed in embarrassment. He knew Gibbs didn't like excessive talking , but Tony couldn't help himself.  He always liked sharing tidbits about the movies and didn't think anything of it.

They watched the movie in silence for a while, Tony making an effort to not blurt out trivia about the movie. So it was a surprise when it was Gibbs who broke the silence.

"Did you know, Bogart was only 5'8 and Ingrid Bergman  was almost two inches taller than him.  They made Bogart stand on blocks or sit on cushions to make him seem taller." Gibbs said, without ever looking at Tony.

Tony, surprised that Gibbs even knew anything about the actors, couldn't help but stare at Gibbs in shock.  Tony knew that Gibbs wouldn't just know that, so that meant he had actually looked up facts about the movie, just to please Tony.

"You're really are absolutely amazing." Tony said in awe. And this time, in the light of the projection, Tony saw Jet blush.

Instead of pointing that out though, he just laid his head on Gibb's shoulder and enjoyed being with Gibbs in this moment.

Once the movie was over, Gibbs drove him back home and this time he didn't stop Tony from spouting out all the trivia he could think of about the movie and the actors. Glancing Gibbs way, Tony saw a small smirk and knew that Gibbs' didn't mind.

When they pulled up to Tony's apartment, Tony sighed and turned to Gibbs.  "I had an incredible night, Jet.  Thank you."

"No need to thank me, I had a good time too."

Tony leaned forward and gave Jet a soft kiss. "Goodnight Jet."

"Night, Anthony."

After a few more kisses, Tony finally climbed out of the truck, but before he shut the door he turned and smiled at Gibbs. "If you're not busy tomorrow, there's a basketball game at the gym if you wanted to go and play with me? I'll pick you up."

Jethro returned the smile and nodded. "Just come by the house whenever."

"Thanks again, Jet. Tonight was amazing." Tony couldn't help but lean into the truck for one more kiss.  Gibbs reached up and cupped his cheek and when they pulled apart, there was a soft smile on Jet's lips.

"Here's looking at you , kid."

Notes:

The trivia about the movie Casablanca came from the internet so I have no idea about how accurate its is, but lets just go with it!

Don't forget to leave a kudos or comment, I love hearing from y'all!
