DELIVERY MAN- “It was raining, the highway near the pond was busy as ever. I was down by that pond to try and deliver a box of fragile items, the owner of that land wanted it delivered to his doors but my truck got stuck in the muck.”
Camera- fallows character through a muddy trail, just at an angle behind so we see the box. Both are soaked. We can see the highway and pond behind him.
DELIVERY MAN- “So of course something nasty would have happened. I had heard the scurry- the screech of tires and without a second thought my body tossed the package and sent my sorry self flying down the road just in time-“
scene -shows a car lose control behind character from his front angle. Car skids and splashes into the pond with a loud crash along with the splash of the box.
DELIVERY MAN-“Of course I wasn’t about to just stand there so I pulled my phone out and dialed 999,”
scene- zoomed in to see front of car sinking deep under water while tail end rises.
DELIVERY MAN- “As soon as I had someone on the line I saw him come down the side of the road.”
Scene- ends switching back to interview room.
Camera- zooms around to face character Jones, the two women have visibly made room away from him- looking rather perturbed.
ANGUS JONES- “So a crash? That is what brought you gentlemen down to that little pond that day?”
Actions- visibly pulling out his phone to record the interview along with a notepad.
Camera- focuses on the man’s hands and notepad,
ANGUS JONES- “Tell me then, what happened? Why did you pull over?”
camera- turns up away from the hands to the second man in the center. Man is dressed in business suit.
BUSINESS MAN- “Why wouldn’t I? If someone had spun out in front of you wouldn’t you have gone down t’see if they were alright?”
Actions- clearing their throat.
Scene- fades back to the stormy night from the perspective of the car driver. Camera is looking in through a rain-covered window at the driver. Scene is narrated by him.
BUSINESS MAN- “I was driving about forty in the fifty. The driver in front of me had dodged around me at what I assumed was sixty or more-“
camera- moves to the side to show briefly a pair of headlights zooming around the man’s car from within the car. Camera switches to above the scene to see the vehicle swerve around the front of the man’s car. It skids and barrels down the side of the road - cuts back to the driver’s shocked expression.
BUSINESS MAN- “I slowed my car further and pulled to the side of the road. I knew something bad had happened despite only being able to see a foot ahead of me. I wanted to make sure they were okay.”
Camera- follows as man gets out of the car on side of the road, Pans over head to see the wreck and the delivery man on his phone at the edge of the pond.
Scene- snaps back to the right end of the table looking at all members of the interview room.
ANGUS JONES- “So you went down to make sure he was safe? How did you get the man out of the water?”
Actions- visibly writing things down.
Scene- The two women on either side were also taking notes.
BUSINESS MAN- “That’s right, and I went in through the back.”
ANGUS JONES- “Alright then. And you came out practically unscathed.”
Actions-turns his head to look at the far left man dressed in golf uniform.
Scene- Blond man in gold uniform becomes center of attention-
camera -snaps to full front of them showing bruises and cuts on face.
GOLFER- “Yes… I can say this whole event has been a major embarrassment to me.”
Actions- eyes glance down and away from camera.
Scene- snaps to the front view of an irritated driver with the sounds of rushing rain and roaring car engine.
GOLFER- “I was racing home from a bad day at the golf club. My clothes were soaked and I just wanted to get home and out of the mess I had made for myself. Instead, I just made an even bigger mess.”
Scene- narrated by him
camera- jolts as the car makes a squealing noise. Camera turns to his perspective as he crashes into the waters of the pond. Something glows in the windshield at the bottom of the pond.
GOLFER- “I was in dead shock at what had just happened and didn’t even realize how fast I was sinking. The moment water started pouring in through the vents was the moment I heard pounding on my back window.”
camera-swivels back to center to show the business man pounding at the back window plus golfer’s shocked expression.
GOLDER- “I tried desperately to get myself out of there then, but my belt was snagged - or my fingers were too stiff with fright. Either way I was showered with water from the front and glass from the back and he joined me in the cabin of my car.”
camera- showing the man behind the struggling golfer breaking the back window with a crowbar and falling into the half submerged water filled cabin.
GOLDER- “With both of us in the cabin, and the back now open I could see we didn’t have much time. Thankfully I had a pocket knife in my dash we used to cut the belt but- both of us had paused. We had seen something.”
Camera- shows the hands struggling to cut through the belt then pauses with the action- slowly backing away to focus on the light at the bottom of the pond.
ANGUS JONES- “You were in a life and death situation and you stopped to look at something shiny?”
Scene- snaps back to the group. The two woman are now standing beside each end of the round table, one writing in their notes, the other with a camera taking pictures.
BUSINESS MAN-“Yes- it was something impossible. We just couldn’t take our eyes away from it even as the water rose above my shoulders.”
ANGUS JONES- “I was not asking you, sir.”
Scene- both hands firmly on the table. The room is quiet sept for the scribbling of one woman’s notes.
ANGUS JONES- “Okay, then you came along?”
Actions- looks to the man in officers uniform. They are looking very downtraude and have not lifted their head for very long during whole investigation.
POLICE MAN- “Yes. I came along the scene- taking the call on the station.”
camera- moves around over the table to look into the left side of his face. Head is still tilted down to the table so we can’t see his eyes.
POLICE MAN- “My partner and I - we responded to the call as we were already en-route to a different location. When we got there the car in the pond was nearly fully submerged. The delivery man was pacing at the side of the water with his phone’n we couldn’t see the owner of the car that had pulled over to the side of the road.”
Scene- fades to black opening from the pond looking up at the two officers on the road. Rain still fogs the screen and their torches are the only things to light the area. Both mostly back lit.
POLICE MAN-“We rushed down into the pond, knowing there was no time to waste to get the two of them out of the water.”
Scene- shows the pair of officers wade then swim to the nearly submerged vehicle then dive into the opening. The glow from the front of the hood shows through-
camera- is at the center back of the vehicle to see officer on left, golfer on left in front- officer on right, Business man on right in front. All pause in the scene.
POLICE MAN-“It was as if we couldn’t pull our eyes away from it- from whatever lie just in front of the hood of that car.”
Scene- shows water splashing up into officer’s face- two in front are completely submerged. Police officer seems to stir from a trance and grab the two in front by the back of their shirts.
Camera- fallows backwards as the man yanks them both - flashes to a front view seeing the single officer and two men flit and swim out of the back of the car. Other officer remains, frozen.
POLICE OFFICER- “I don’t know why they didn’t come with me,”
scene- fades from the three emerging from the water to the interview room. Scene ends
Camera- snaps back from looking behind all four men into the face of the investigator.
ANGUS JONES- “You came up with all of the others, did you go back for your partner?”
actions- head tilted to one side.
POLICE MAN- “I did go back for them once the other two were on the shore line. But when I dove back in to grab them too, they were gone.”
Actions-slumps further down.
Camera -would move around to see all faces of the five. The women are no longer present.
ANGUS JONES- “You are sure?”
POLICE MAN-“Yes, I dove under the water to see if they had maybe crawled out a window but- all of the front windows were still set in place. The glow was also gone…”
Actions- with a sniff.
ANGUS JONES- “Okay, thank you all for your time. We have all of your information so we will contact you if we have more questions.”
Actions- Investigator stands with left hand open to the door gesturing that they all may leave. All but the police man stand and begin shuffling out of the room.
ANGUS JONES- “We will find them, I am sure of it.”
POLICE MAN- “Thank you, you investigator Jones. I’m just… where could they have gone? They were a very strong swimmer so it’s not as if they could have drowned…”
Actions- look up from the table finally.
ANGUS JONES- “That is what we will find out. Now please, go home, Get some rest.”
Scene- fades to credits as we watch the officer stand and walk glumly out of the room.
