In the middle of the night, his dad comes into the room and crawls onto the bed behind him, easing Stiles into the vee of his legs. He settles back against the headboard with a groan and doesn’t say anything for a long time. Stiles wraps his arms around one of his dad’s legs, presses his cheek to warm flannel, and tries to be still.
“Oh, kid,” his dad exhales. His hand comes down on the side of Stiles’ neck and his fingers press gently. “I never wanted you to know this pain.”
(Or, Derek dies. Stiles reacts Badly.)

So, basically, this author has a history of being part of a fandom long enough to completely devastate my emotional equilibrium and say toodles before carrying on to the next fandom I will invariably stumble towards, to obliterate me once again with something heart wrenching and amazing.
I mean this all in the absolute most complimentary way one could possibly hold for a golden god of destruction's bibliography.
I love this story. I hope my reading has done some justice to its brilliance.
