Chapter Text
Harry couldn't pay attention, he had this heavy feeling in his gut that tonight something bad was going to happen. After nearly dying at least 6 times since he’s been at Hogwarts, he had learnt to always trust your gut. Especially tonight.
Ginny had been ignoring Harry all night. As soon as they arrived at the party she left him to go see her friends with a quick ‘see you’, over her shoulder as she made her way through the crowd of already drunk teenagers. Seventh-year prefects from Ravenclaw had invited all sixth to seventh students to their common room for a party. Ravenclaw’s while they were uptight and super annoying, they did know how to through a rager party, where even the weirdest kids were kinda cool for a night.
Harry busied himself with fetching drinks for the two when Ron and Hermione came up to him. He pulled Ron into a big hug then Hermione. They went into a general discussion about the latest news and gossip, making their way through the crowds and onto the dance floor area.
It was nice. Just the three of them. With all of them in relationships, it wasn't a regular occurrence that just three of them hung out. Hermione and Ron while the sexual tension was real and everyone could see it, but them. They were dating other people and Harry too. He was dating Ginny.
Ginny and Harry had gotten together last year after they both were stuck in detention filing books in the library. They got to know one another, finding lots of things in common. Harry hadn’t spoken that much to Ginny before, seeing Ginny as Ron’s younger sister, basically off limits.
But, when they finally did confess to one another and awkwardly told Ron. Ron seemed ecstatic, Harry was his best friend, loyal, kind and brave, someone perfect and trusting for Ginny. She already had a hard time making friends so, Molly and Arthur scheduled a meeting with dumbledore back during Harry and Ron’s second year at Hogwarts to be pushed up a year to be with Ron.
Anyway, they all danced, using the music to drown out their thoughts. Soon, Hermione’s girlfriend Pansy came up from behind her, wrapping her arms around her waist, making Hermione squeal with surprise turning into laughter.
‘I’m so happy you could make it’ Hermione gleamed turning towards her girlfriend, “I wouldn’t miss it Mione, free booze, no teachers crawling down my back, this is perfect Pansy replied shaking her head
Ron rolled his eyes, ‘I'm gonna go find MY girlfriend now, and he was off slipping through the crowd, off to find Lavender.
This reminded Harry of Ginny’s absence. He went up on his tiptoes, tilting his chin to look around, by now the party was in full swing. He scanned around trying to find Ginny when his eyes landed on Draco.
Draco was leaning back, his legs crossed over and one hand cradling a cigarette while his other draped over a random Ravenclaw girl. She was talking adamantly about something while he just looked straight ahead, not paying too much attention to her. It wasn’t uncommon to see Draco like this, ever since he came back from the holidays, all laid back and no more slicked back hair. He was kind of good-looking. Harry had never noticed before, why didn’t he?
Maybe it was because Draco had been trying to kill him, whether that was with his eyes, physically or through magic, Harry didn't have time to think about Draco’s hotness.
He stopped staring and continued to look around, not before catching Draco’s eyes, Draco’s face pulling into his signature smirk after noticing.
Harry couldnt find Ginny, the last time he saw her was at the beginning of the party. Harry thought that they would find each other again to hang out at the party as couples do. But no, she wasn’t anywhere to be found.
The area wasn’t big so there weren’t many places where someone could even hide. Unless, she was in the bathroom, but even then no one hangs out in the bathroom at a party, Harry knows she hates weed or any other drugs.
Harry sighed, saying a quick goodbye to Pansy and Hermione who were being a gross couple next to him. He needed new friends. Harry made his way through the crowd walking over to the bar once again to grab another drink. He had drunk maybe 4 bottles, being a lightweight he only really needed to drink 3 and he was good. But as his gut told him, he was going to need more, to stomach what might happen.
He picked up a different bottle of beer, turning it over and reading the label.
‘Potter, become a cicerone over the holidays? Did ya?’ A voice chuckled next to him
Harry turned his head, already registering who it was. ‘No, of course, I didn’t Malfoy’
‘Was just joking, lighten up’ Draco placed his hand on Harry’s shoulder rubbing it lightly. Harry shook slightly at the contact. Draco seemed to realise this and take his hand away, reaching downwards to get a beer.
‘So, where’s the princess?’ Draco nodded his head, his eyes meeting Harry’s, his piercing blue eyes staring into Harry’s
‘Who?’ Harry questioned raising his eyebrows
‘Ginny, dumbass’
‘Oh- yeah” Harry sighed looking away, ‘Well- I’m honestly not sure’ Harry let out, he didn’t know if it was the alcohol or the vibe of the party, but tonight he didn’t feel like being snappy, he was over it. There was no hurt in telling the truth, but telling Draco was different. They didn’t have a casual talk relationship like Harry did with others.
‘Hmm, that’s rude, why did she leave a pretty boy like you all alone
Harry widened his eyes, stammering ‘I- I don’t know
‘Well, Potter, hopefully, it all works out for you’, Draco replied grimacing, ‘enjoy the party’ Draco simply said, before turning on his heels.
Harry stood there, shocked, Draco and Harry had never been so civil. No mean remarks or storming off from Draco, he had just left. Left like a normal person would in a conversation.
Weird.
He turned too, coming face to face with Ginny. She stood, hands on her hips looking displeased.
‘Are you serious?’ She glared
‘What?’
‘You talking to Draco? Didn’t we say that you were gonna stop doing whatever you guys do, so you can focus on other things? He’s bad news’
‘Why do you care?’ He was equally angry now, furrowing his eyebrows. He had been ditched by her and now she shows up randomly, to confront him. No “hello, or where have you been, I was looking everywhere for you”, like normal couples.
Ginny shook her, ‘You just don’t get it, do you, we can’t do this anymore, Harry was shocked, what was she talking about? Up until tonight, everything had been perfect, they even went on a study date a couple of days ago.
“Can we take this somewhere else, please?’ Harry gestured around him, people were beginning to take notice of their fight, whispering to others to notify them of the blow-up that is about to happen.
‘Fine’ Ginny turned walking off towards the entranceway of the Ravenclaw common room, Harry closely following behind.
Once they were safely outside, away from any ears, Ginny spoke first, in a low tone, ‘Harry, you know that you mean so much to me. But, I’ve been thinking lately, we are just two different people and i-’
‘I don’t understand Ginny, what am I doing wrong?’ Harry cut him off
‘It's not you it's me’, “God can this be any more cliche,” Harry thought, his first break up and this is what happens.
‘Are you even listening?’ Ginny barked, ‘This is what I’m talking about, you're so hard to get through’
Harry was lost for words, opening his mouth to reply but nothing came out. It was true, to say the least, that he was a bit vacant. In the nicest way possible. With everything happening at Hogwarts over the years it was hard to concentrate.
‘Just- Harry, I want you to figure yourself out’, Ginny sighed, ‘Whatever’s going in that head of yours, I want you to figure out, and I don’t think I can be in this relationship until you do’
What the fuck, Harry cursed to himself, he didn’t think he was that bad of a boyfriend.
‘I’m gonna go back to the party, Harry’ Harry looked up from the ground, ‘I will see you later, ok’ She gave a warm smile, quickly leaving and heading back towards the Ravenclaw common room entrance.
—
Harry didn’t know how many beers he drank, he just kept going. After the weirdest break-up ever, with Ginny, He just wanted to get his mind off of everything. He still couldnt understand.
He lost himself in the music, joining Hermione and Pansy and now Ron and Lavender on the dance floor. Once again Ginny was nowhere to be found.
He didn’t mind, he just wanted to forget. Soon, he found himself pressed up against a warm body. The scent of dark pine and expensive men's cologne filled his senses. All lights had been turned off, with the music turned higher. The thumping of the bass was so loud he could feel it throughout his body.
The body grounded into him slowly, he hadn't turned around to see who it was, but he didn’t care. The unknown person's hand made its way around his waist, moving slowly up towards his chest, caressing it softly. Harry let out a groan, which signalled the other person to then move towards his neck where the person titled Harry’s head to the side, allowing the unknown person to attach their lips to his neck.
The lips, a little ruff but plush kissed his neck softly, starting lower near his collarbone and finishing near his ear, making Harry press into the unknown person's head, with a shudder.
“God, this was so good,” Harry thought in his drunken mind, just what he needed.
They danced some more, the person continuing to dance closely to Harry’s body, so close Harry could feel the other person's warmth. Suddenly, he felt his hand being tugged, the unknown person was leading him towards the exit.
