Work Text:
His younger brother Manjirou was eight years old when he brought home a black cat— a bit dirty, yet sky blue eyes shone brighter than thousands stars.
Its eyes was so bright it almost looked like humans'.
Shinichiro, being a good older brother, interrogated him. Asked a few question because, of course, there should be no way in hell his youngest brother changed into someone who cares about something such as strays. He knew his brother best when it came to social interaction.
"He smells like taiyaki. So I brought him home." Shinichiro noticed that Manjirou was not using the right pronoun for animals. He kept calling the blue eyed cat as if it was human.
Huh..? Wait a second..
As if to respond things his brother had said, Shinichiro reached out his hands. He grabbed the cat from Manjirou's cradles and brought the cat closer. Sniffing the cat to find it smelled so good. Rather than taiyaki, it smelled like sandalwood. And it was good— great, even. It made all the stresses piled up in him dissapeared in a split second. Just not like what Manjirou had described its scent.
This called for suspicion.
Eyes so bright, different smells in accordance to whom smelled it..
Shinichiro widened his eyes when he realized something.
There was one time when his phys-ed teacher mentioned something so eerily familiar as this one.
It was when his class learned about the so called extinct creature— they whom once filled this world even more in count than normal human. The Were-people.
They were not exactly met their extinction, it was just.. nowadays, it was hard to find even one of them.
He then called for his youngest sister, Emma. He asked her to sniff the cat and reported it to him, what he smelled like.
"It's nice." She said, took a sniff once again at the cat. "Like.. honey and roses.. it's nice! Who's cat it is, Shin-nii?"
"He was mine! And it smells like taiyaki, not honey nor roses!" Manjirou tried to snatch back the cat from Shinichiro who was in a dazed state, but unfortunately for him, his brother was way taller than him.
After hearing Emma's claim, Shinichiro was sure that the cat cradled peacefully in his arm, was not a cat. He was a were-cat. Manjirou had just brought a were-people home.
cling
Shinichiro looked at the direction where the sounds came from. And found a ring pendant attached to the necklace on his neck.
Hanagaki Takemichi, June 25th. 1991.
This were-cat, somehow, has a name and birthdate.
Of course he began asking Manjirou questions like; where did he found him, was he alone, or were someone with him. In which Manjirou replied to all of the questions with "No."
It terrified Shinichiro, so the young man proceed to once more, asking his younger brother the same questions. It seriously made him got goosebumps when his brother again, said negative answers to all of the questions.
Apparently, Manjirou not only brought home a mere were-people, but one that probably was abandoned in the street recently. One whom also coincidentally just almost a year younger than Manjirou, and a few months older than Emma. Still a kid. A were-cat kid, to be exact.
The law states that a child abandonment case to be reported to the police immediately, and included in it also the were-kid case— specifically. Which was rare because of the extinction, yet somehow there were at least two cases each year, where people find were-kids being abandoned, in the street, forest, even in the sea.
However, when he wanted to do so (fulfilled his task as a lawful citizen), Manjirou and Emma pulled his clothes. Asking him not to bring the blue eyed were-cat anywhere. Puppy eyes plastered on their face.
Shinichiro was on dilema. Should he or should he not. Lawful citizen or a soft and kind hearted big brother. So he looked at the were-cat, asking on what should he do.
The were-cat, like understood Shinichiro's dilema, began to purr. He then nuzzled his way on Shinichiro's cradle. Meowing, filled with content at how much comfort Shinichiro's cradles offered.
3-1. Unanonimously, He lost.
He sighed his heart out and stroked the cat's fur in his hand. "Let's wait for grandpa and asks him to adopt this were-cat."
In which Manjirou and Emma cheered loudly, high-fiving with each other as if they were celebrating something.
"No big deal. We can always make our family bigger with this beautiful boy. You said, what was his name? Takemichi? Beautiful name for beautiful boy. I like it."
"Huh, but what can we provide him for food? Humans' or Cats'? Should we take him to vet, first? Oh no, he must be hungry so—"
Seems like his grandpa is more excited than Manjirou and Emma in this case.
