"Are you nervous?" Emilyko asked as she watched Kate getting ready, in the small and quaint cottage they took refuge in just before the day was done.
Kate turned to look at Emilyko, in the shadowy void where a human's face would have been, she raised an eyebrow, her lips pursed. "Oh? Why would I be nervous?" she in turn asked, as if the other girl was out of line for asking such a thing.
"Because it looks like we're going to be finding out a lot more about the outside world," Emilyko looked down, wringing her hands together. "I mean, it's kind of scary, the more I think about it, and there really is so much we don't know."
"That is true, there is much we do not know, having been in the Shadow House for so long." Kate walked over to Emilyko, reaching out and holding onto the other girl's hands. "And, if I may be so bold, I am both nervous and excited. That is part of what makes everything so wondrous, thinking about how much we still have to see, especially with you."
Emilyko let Kate's words sink in before she smiled her bright smile, nodding her head. "You're right, that's part of the fun, and we'll see together!"
Kate chuckled. "Right."
Determination in their hearts, Kate and Emilyko then looked toward the sun, rising above the green hills before them.
They then took the first step forward.
