Kyoka is never happy about having Minoru as a partner. He ranks pretty high on her list of people she does not want to have to work with, for a wide variety of reasons. And yet, the two of them are stuck together, and that means that she at least has to put up with him for a little while yet, whether she wants to or not.
She is left with a lot of conflicting feelings, where Minoru is concerned. If he makes any perverted remarks about her, it pisses her off, and if he tries to check her out, it’s hard to resist the urge to punch him out. However, if he says or does nothing even remotely out of line, that pisses her off as well, because she gets the feeling that he only does that because he doesn’t think she’s attractive enough to be worth his time, even though she is sure that should not be true.
It just makes it all that much more frustrating to be left alone with him for any amount of time, especially when it’s a school assignment, and the two of them need to focus. Kyoka finds it impossible to focus with him, and today, things are even more difficult than usual, because she also really has to pee.
The need hit her while they were waiting her turn, and has been bugging her ever since. She knows this is supposed to take a long time, so that just makes her even more nervous about having to hold it for so long. It was stupid of her not to think to go before they came out here, to this facility where they’re doing some sort of hero scavenger hunt, practicing rescue and stealth situations. None of it seems too complicated, just lengthy, and they weren’t allowed to choose their partners, so she is stuck with Minoru, of all people.
So far, he hasn’t said much of anything. He started to comment on how lucky he is, that there are so few girls in the class yet he still got paired with one, but a glare from her shut him right up. Still, a thought lingers in the back of her mind, telling her that she’s lucky that he said something like that, rather than whining about not being with one of the girls that he likes more. Kyoka will never understand why she gets jealous in those situations, or why she wastes her time thinking about what he says at all.
Finally, it is their turn, and she is determined to finish this as quickly as possible. As the last group to get to go, she at least knows that, once they have finished up, they can head back and she can finally go to the bathroom, giving her all the more reason to try and rush through this.
“We’re getting this done quick,” is all that she says to Minoru, her tone so edgy that it seems to scare him a little bit.
In the beginning, everything goes perfectly simple for the two of them. Things aren’t hard, just like she expected, it just feels like it is taking them a million years, and her bladder keeps throbbing, each step reminding her that she seriously needs to go right now. She tries to ignore it when she can, but Kyoka is getting truly desperate, and she hates feeling like this. The only thing that makes it a little more tolerable than it could be is the fact that Minoru is not making too much of a nuisance of himself, for once.
What does not make it easier is the indoor miniature river that they have to search, and by the time they have found their “victim” to rescue there (a token to show they found it), Kyoka never wants to see running water ever again. It is taking all that she has not to show signs of her desperation to Minoru, and if she isn’t careful, she is pretty sure he will find her out in no time, due to how bad it is.
But they are nearly done now, and she is just going to keep moving forward. The last section that they have to search in this building is dark and quiet, and Minoru trembles beside her, complaining every now and then about how creepy it is. Kyoka feels the same way, but she isn’t going to let him know that she has that sort of weakness.
She is so on edge, paying such close attention to their surroundings, so that she can find the last token that they need, but she does not stop to think that there might be some traps meant to startle them while they work. Not paying attention to that possibility at all, she is, naturally, scared out of her mind when something pops out of the wall- a spring, with a sign that simply says “Stay on guard”- and dangles right in front of her face.
So scared, in fact, that she not only shrieks out loud, but also loses all control of her bladder, and does not notice until it is far too lat to do anything about that situation. She only realizes when her scream has faded, and she realizes that she can feel a wet warmth in her gym uniform. Looking down in horror, she gasps out loud as she watches a large dark patch grow even larger, the liquid that escapes the fabric puddling at her feet.
She is pissing herself. At school. During a partner activity. While her partner watches. And her partner just happens to be Minoru Mineta.
Kyoka is pretty sure that this day can’t possibly get any worse for her, and before she even realizes what she is doing, she has started to cry. She is not the sort to cry, in public or in private, but right now, she is so shocked and distraught and on edge that she can’t stop the tears from falling. Minoru just continues to gawk at her at first, but when he realizes that she is crying, he finally speaks up. Honestly, she would have preferred him keep quiet, and just pretend not to see anything.
“Oh, um,” he starts, and she is not looking forward to whatever he says to mock her. But Minoru simply says, “Hey, you don’t need to cry. I mean, that was pretty scary, so…”
“Shut up,” she mumbles, “and stop looking at me. This shouldn’t have happened, not to me.”
“I guess you’re right,” he replies. Seriously, did he not hear her when she told him to shut up? Wet pants or not, she will not hesitate to kill him, if he keeps pushing his luck. But when she glares at him, Minoru just keeps talking, as if he does not notice. “I mean, that’s something you’d expect of me, right? Something pops out at us, I scream, I pee my pants, you make fun of me, the end.”
She flinches a bit at his words, realizing that, yes, she probably would have made fun of him, if that had happened. But he isn’t making fun of her at all right now, even though he definitely could. Even though she might as well deserve it, considering she would have teased him, and never considered how it would make her feel to end up in that situation.
“Come to think of it, I’ve honestly gotta go pretty bad right now. It wouldn’t surprise me if I…ah!” He screams, but it’s obviously fake. “Did you hear something, or was it just me? Oh no…” All of this is so fake, yet, before her eyes, Minoru starts wetting himself too.
He sighs in relief, letting go and shocking her, and she is not sure what she is supposed to feel right now. Her first impulse is to be disgusted by the fact that he is pissing in front of her, and her second is to be touched that he is really trying so hard to comfort her, which means that her third is to start to think he might not be that bad, which leads to her fourth, panicking over what that means and trying to bury it, just as she buries a lot of her feelings where this boy is concerned.
And then, she starts to feel rather strange, and definitely wants to bury that, and not try and connect it to why she cares so much about what he thinks about her. Instead, she mumbles an awkward, “Thanks, but…now we’re both wet, and that’s not going to make it any less embarrassing…”
“We can always pretend we fell in the river,” Minoru says. “With my record, it’s not impossible to screw up that bad, and if we’re both soaked, no one will be able to tell a thing!”
Kyoka has to admit that is a good idea, and so, she follows along with it. Minoru does not admit that the idea also comes to him because seeing her all wet has left him in need of a cold shower, and that’s the next best thing he can imagine right now.
