Chapter Text
She remembers the day it happened. The day it was arranged.
They all sat down at that table. All five families.
The Claires, the Lockwoods, the Lebonairs, the Salvatores, and the Mikaelsons.
The marriages arranged that day would change the lives of an entire generation.
The first to be chosen for this ever so painful death was Davina Claire. The grand daughter of the previous Donna of her line. Only 18. Barely 18. The longer she thought, she supposed she should feel lucky. Lucky that she had a chance to live before being forced into this.
Davina Claire was to marry the youngest male Mikaelson, Kol. No matter how difficult her half brother attempted to argue the contrary. Her fate was sealed.
Next was Tyler Lockwood, future Don of his family. They very quickly settled on Caroline Salvatore for him. A match that had previously been in place for the couple since the day they were born. Just like that they were queued for the guillotine too.
After that it was time for the youngest male Salvatore to pair up. Stefan Salvatore. After much arguing and two brawls, it was decided that Rebekah Mikaelson would fit the bill. It was at this point that she had to blink back tears, it was her turn for a match.
So they chose Jackson Lockwood-Kenner. She couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief at that. It could have been worse. It could have been Klaus Mikaelson. But it isn’t. It’s Jackson. The same Jackson she grew up with, the same Jackson she’d known since they were born.
And with that it was done.
The Claires were allied with the Mikelsons, who had an alliance to the Salvatores, who were linked to the Lockwoods, who had a longstanding relationship with the Lebonairs. A perfect chain of misery that would unite the families for centuries.
Give them an excuse not to kill each other.
And in the process put cold, diamond encrusted, nooses around all their necks.
