What if the wizarding community was less dumb and used muggle inventions

Summary:

A person who was in Dumbledore's army in their 6th year is inspired to use muggle weapons to try and defeat Voldemort and his lackeys. They decide to spend their summer building weapons and testing them out on dummies. After perfecting the weapons, they simply go about their days. Until as they are about to go to sleep, they feel the galleon heating up. They rush to battle.

(Song at the beginning is Drunk Dial by Sueco)

Notes:

So I got this idea while eating some chicken nuggets and I realized that muggle weapons might have been much better than wizarding weapons at defeating the death eaters so here we are :D

Work Text:

Alex was just having a normal day, they went to their classes and did normal stuff. They screwed around with a fidget spinner all day and was generally tired of life when they retired to the dormitory. They put on their headphones and lay down on the bed.

(5 minutes later)

"Drunk dial, that's my style, calling you from the bathroom tile-", Alex paused their music when they felt a heat in their pocket. They got excited and felt a sense of dread as they dropped everything and stuffed their right hand into their pocket and rummaged around for the coin. After making sure that it was genuinely from the coin, they raced out of bed and went to grab their weapons from the closet. They specifically had been waiting for this moment and the nerves were starting to get higher than ever.

Alex crept out of the Ravenclaw common room as to not wake anyone up and ran out to the Room of Requirement while juggling with their backpack full of weapons. After they put on their armor, they started to creep around the castle, holding their tranq gun. Alex still had a heavy backpack full of stuff so they hoped they could find some other people willing to help with fighting.

The next time Alex turned a corner they ended up face to face with a woman with pink hair pointing a wand at them. They froze before realizing that they saw this person around the castle before doing some sort of guard work. Alex unfroze and threw a tranq gun at her from out of their backpack. She blinked before looking down in the object in her hand, wand still pointed at Alex.

"Read the instructions! If there are a lot of death eaters, press the special button."

After yelling this to the pink haired witch, they ran off with the backpack feeling slightly lighter. After this they arrived at the Room of Requirement where they found other people waiting. Alex skidded to a stop in front of all of them while taking off their backpack.

"Hey guys!"

They blinked before hesitantly greeting Alex back trying to remember where they remembered Alex from. Before they could get a chance though, Alex started to throw tranq guns at them.

"Each gun has 30 round mags and there are an additional 6 mags strapped to the side of the gun. I'll be right back after I deliver some more guns to other people I saw around the place. If there is are multiple enemies, hit the special button on the side."

Alex darted off, giving guns to more guards in the castle including a very confused Transfiguration Professor. After arriving back at the Room of Requirement, they took out their other weapons and tools to wear. Alex put on some night vision goggles and clipped some smoke grenades to their torso. It was a good thing too because when Malfoy noticed there were people outside, he threw something into the air and the room turned black. Alex could still see the heat signatures however and they picked off every last one of them.

Everyone behind Alex was immediately stunned by the black screen and when they regained some sense of what was going on after the powder dissipated, they saw death eaters on the ground and were immediately taken aback by the speed and efficiency at which it was done. Alex stood there with a proud grin on their face started to deliberate with the group at the stairs.

Alex started with, "Now that those guys are dealt with, where do we put them?"

At that moment several guards ran in, alerted by the sound of the bodies hitting the ground and the sound of the tranq gun which was louder than normal.

At the forefront of these guards was the transfiguration professor who gaped at the sight of 6 people laying on the ground unconscious.

"I feel like this would be an appropriate time to tranq You-Know-Who and his followers since they are just on the other side of the cabinet over there."

Everybody just looked at Alex like they were crazy.

"I know this doesn't seem very smart, but hear me out because I have a sound plan!. I'll throw a couple smoke grenades that I made with the same Peruvian powder that Malfoy used through the cabinet and then I'll give everybody some night vision goggles. After I throw the grenades in, I want everyone to press the special button and don't let go of the trigger. If your ammo runs out, you have 6 more packs of ammo attached to your gun. Just stick one of them into the gun and continue firing at the bright targets that you see. Even though this might be a bad time, we have a golden opportunity here to take down most of You-Know-Who's operation all at once."

Professor McGonagall rubbed her forehead and looked back at the people that came with her which all had the tranq guns Alex gave them.

"I feel like this would be a good time to pass out those goggles, this might be one of our only opportunities."

Just as Alex started handing the goggles out, everyone heard running footsteps coming closer. Alex quickly set their gun to aim at the entrance and the second the figure appeared, Alex shot them.

Snape went down on the ground with a loud thump and everyone stared at Snape's motionless body. Everyone slowly turned to Alex who was staring at Snape with an unreadable expression.

"That's what you get for giving me a T on my essay!"

Everyone looked at them with a faint look of amusement but mostly disapproval except for Ron and Ginny who let out small snorts of laughter.

"Wrong time?"

Alex was met with silence.

"Anyway, I'm gonna continue handing these out."

Alex handed out the rest of the goggles and they all headed into the room of requirement and stood at the entrance to the vanishing cabinet. Alex quickly chucked the grenades into the cabinet and gave the signal to start storming through. They all stormed through and started shooting left and right at the people who seemed to have been caught off guard and Alex themselves got to have the honor of shooting You-Know-Who. Once the cloud had cleared, there were people littered on the ground unconscious from the bullets. All in all they had lost nobody and most of You-Know-Who's forces and You-Know-Who had been incapacitated.

(10 Days Later)

The Ministry had taken over the scene and they had taken everyone to special holding cells where they were kept tranquilized at all times. Dumbledore was still going to die because of the curse that the ring had given him but they still had more time to prepare. Harry was surprised that it was that easy. They still had to find out where the Horcruxes are just to be safe but the wizarding world could breathe a sigh of relief. Alex was awarded the Special Award for Services to the School and everyone was beginning to settle into a post You-Know-Who age. Alex was also not given a T on the next essay that they turned in to Snape.
