You have got to be joking

Summary:

Bilbo Baggins thought his evening couldn't get weirder. First he meets a wizard from his past, then his dinner is ruined by a bunch of dwarrow who frustrate him so much he thinks he's about to blow steam and then he is insulted and asked to join an adventure, as a burglar of all things, by the leader of said dwarrow.

He was wrong though because it turns out that said leader also happens to be his One and THAT takes the cake.

Notes:

I do not own and did not create neither The Hobbit, nor its characters, nor its plot. I only own and created this little piece of fanfiction so please do not copy, or take credit, or post it in another platform.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘨𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘫𝘰𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨.

How can his One be a dwarf? How can he, a hobbit, and a highly respectable one at that, have a dwarf for his One? A king-in-exile-with-a-lost-home-on-a-quest-to-reclaim-said-lost-home dwarf too? It cannot be, there has to be a mistake.

But, really, he 𝘬𝘯𝘦𝘸 that a mistake was extremely unlikeable, for the moment the king opened his mouth and started humming his song he 𝘬𝘯𝘦𝘸 he was a goner.

Such was the richness of his voice that he felt it to his very core. A voice that carried the hurts and the wounds of the past yet still held hope for a better tomorrow, a better future. Still held hope that their mission would succeed and they would take their mountain, their home and his kingdom back.

𝘏𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘮𝘦𝘴𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘻𝘦𝘥.

His heart ached and yearned for this dwarf who he had just met only a few hours ago. And even when the rest of the company, the same company of dwarrow who had barged in his house out of of nowhere, courtesy of a meddlesome wizard, joined in and sang their hearts out he couldn't help but still have eyes only for their leader. He had unintentionally and unknowingly captured their host's full attention.

𝘕𝘰, 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘰 𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦.

Thorin Oakenshield, The King under the Mountain, is his One, the person supposed to complete him and prompt him to be his utterly best and Bilbo Baggins comes to a realisation, standing right there watching and listening to his One's 𝘣𝘦𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘶𝘭 voice, with a sigh.
