Chapter Text
"Let's get married, Shoko."
It's a nice day with nice weather. The autumn winds caressed her cheeks and hair tenderly. It’s sweet with the smell of lilac and coffee. Gojo had called her a few hours ago and asked her to come to their usual hangout place to talk. Usually, if he wanted to talk about something, he would just call her or visit her in the clinic so this was a bit unexpected. Whatever talk they were going to have Shoko did not imagine this. Gojo propose to someone and certainly not her of all people. This man was not the kind of person who would tie himself to marriage. She had known Gojo long enough to know that character.
"Is this a prank?" asked Shoko, her face blank and her tone flat.
Gojo chuckled. She knew he liked messing around with people. Those glasses that he wore covered her from seeing his thought.
"It's not a prank. I'm serious," he answered in a laid back tone.
Shoko just froze there for a few seconds, waiting for him to reveal this as a joke, but there was nothing. He was just sitting in front of her, waiting for her answer.
"Why? We don't even see each other that way. "
"True, that's why you are the perfect wife for me."
"Explain." She smoked her cigarette slowly while looking at him, demanding to know his reason for asking her something so crazy like that.
"You are aware that my family is constantly pressuring me to marry off someone. They don't want the Gojo line to perish and to keep wield its great power for a long time. "He gave a huge sigh, "I'm tired of that. The only thing that could make them stop is if I find myself a wife. "
"Then, you just need to find a girl you like. It’s not that hard for you, isn’t it? Why are you asking me instead?"
"We have known each other for a long time, Shoko." She could feel his eyes on her despite the glasses that covered him. "People will believe and accept our relationship easily. You are also a person that won’t fall for me despite how hot I am, but that’s a good point that won’t make things complicated for us later. "
She didn’t even cringe at his narcissistic antics. That's a very Gojo thing to say.
"You can ask Utahime or Mei-Mei to help you with this. You know them long enough and they are trust worthy too. Nonetheless, Mei-Mei can be quite a risk if there is money involved, but you are richer than most men, so it's probably won't even be a problem. "
"Utahime would yell at me every day if we were in the same room. As for Mei-Mei, I can't trust her enough. But you... "
"You?"
"You are just you. When it comes to companion, I always prefer you than anyone else." He looked at her.
"Should I blush?" Gojo laughed at her comment but continued with his proposal.
"Think about this just us becoming roomates. Living under the same roof, nothing will really change. You are free to do whatever you please, even have relationships with other people, I won't mind, like an open relationship. You just have me as your companion." He paused. "After two years, we can split. I truly just need a break from them pestering me over again about marriage."
"Still, what does this marriage do me any good? "
Gojo smirked. "Now that you asked about that, you will have the privilages of being a Gojo, and you know how the Jujutsu world treats us, don't you?" Gojo leaned closer towards her from his chair and began to whisper. "You can even do any research for your project. Illegal or not, you will have free access to that and our full support, I guarantee it. "
Now that sounded truly interesting. But Shoko kept her silence.
He lowered his glasses and she could see his ocean green-blue eyes peeking at her. "Or are you actually in a relationship with someone, but you never bother telling me about it?"
Shoko leaned her back against the chair while her right hand took another smoke. "I do have a special relationship."
"Oh?"
"With a knife, as you already know, I spent most of my time in the school’s clinic and lab. "I'm their slave. Don't you see my eyebags? "
Gojo smiled. "Great, then there is no problem if you marry me, Shoko. You can even have your peace, those people who keep hitting on you will finally stop too. "
He's right. There were plenty of people who actually asked her on a date, but she always refused or just ignored them. Love was not something she sought or wanted in her life.
If this could make them stop bothering her then, it's quite a good step, but somehow she still thought this could end badly or just totally crazy.
Gojo was her friend, one of her closest ones. They had been through so much together that getting married, even if fictitious, could have had impact to their future friendship.
Would she really risk this for random people to go away from her life? Was it worth it?
Relationships had never been her forte, but Gojo did mention the privileges of being a Gojo. All that illegal research that she could do, if there's one thing that she's passionate enough about in her life, it’s her job as a doctor and a researcher, especially if it's related to curses. This was honestly a huge chance for her to actually get all the forbidden things that she couldn't get before.
It also helped Gojo, her close friend.
"So?"
Shoko looked back at Gojo. They looked at each other for the next five minutes.
"Please?"
Shoko sighed. "Ok, I accept."
After that, everything just happened so fast. She asked Gojo to make it as simple as possible. She didn’t want to have any ceremony about this, so she asked him to just do it in the civil department and be done with it. It’s not like she's a religious person who wanted a wedding with God’s vows.
They went to the civil office to make things official. After they signed the marriage papers, Gojo gave her a ring, but she wasn’t sure when he got it. They exchanged the rings with only their officer of marriage as their witness. She congratulated them and presented them with the legal government contract for their union.
"So we are married now." Shoko said once they were outside the civil building, she looked at the ring on her finger and then looked up at Gojo, who was already smiling at her.
"We are! Welcome, Shoko Gojo-san. " He said playfully.
"Ugh, this is so weird. My name doesn’t even sound good with your family name. "
"You will get used to it." He laughed. "Let’s head back."
She nodded and let Gojo lead her.
