Chapter Text
In a world of fantasy and magic, there stands a great mountain that watches over all who live upon the world. A mountain in which twelve gods claim as their home. Each different, but all equal in their strengths. But a long time ago, far too long for anyone alive now to remember, there used to be a thirteenth god. Young, intelligent, and full of life… but also mischievous and lustful to a fault.
Māo, the cat god, was shunned for his ways and cast away for eternity. However, instead of growing bitter and hateful, Māo embraced his exile to learn about the mortals they watched over, never giving in to the loneliness inside his heart as it longed to be back with the ones he once thought of as his true family.
For centuries, the world lived in peace… until one day a great darkness swept through the land, creating plague and famine and strife. The gods fought the darkness valiantly and with all their might, but one by one succumbed, swallowed whole by the darkness. Their minds and bodies warped, becoming monsters the mortals soon grew to fear as they terrorized the land. The only god left standing, the one everyone forgot about.
Māo had stood on the sidelines, helpless as he watched the darkness swallow his home, leaving nothing but bitterness and fear. Uncertain, but not without hope, he made the journey alone to a land outside their own, where an old witch resided. Older than even the gods themselves, Māo knew she would know what to do to rid the darkness, save their people, and restore the gods to their former glory.
But what he learned was far from what he expected to hear. Expecting to be told to find a mortal with a heart of gold and the strength of ten men, the young god was floored when instead the old witch told her that which would save the gods is the very thing they shunned him for.
She told him that he was the only one who could cleanse their bodies of the darkness, by giving them his own purity through the act of pleasure. To let them have their way with him and fill his body with their corrupted essence.
At first the young god was hesitant, uncertain that he could bring himself to do so after everything the other gods had said to him centuries ago. But how could he live with himself, knowing he could have saved them… and didn’t?
He agreed, but with one final concern. Born with both sexual parts, Māo was susceptible to becoming pregnant if he wasn’t careful. The old witch had smirked at him, as if she knew something he didn’t, and when he asked, she only shook her head at him. She told him that if he wished to prevent the risks, to bring her a rare flower. It would cost him time, but he could safely cleanse the gods of their corruption.
It took him two days to find the flower and bring it back to her, where she created a potion for him to consume. Upon doing so, a glowing symbol appeared on his skin, above his womb, as if protecting him. He felt calm and serene, smiling down at it, before the old witch spoke to him once more.
She told him that the gods could be saved, but only until the next full moon. Once it would pass, their hearts would forever be consumed by the darkness inside themselves. The potion would only last two weeks, giving him very little time to safely carry out his mission. Aware of the risks, and his own responsibilities, the cat god set off to his first destination, where Shǔ, the rat god, terrorized the land.
