Sweet Confessions

Summary:

After waking up alone one morning Peggy comes to some unexpected realizations and makes a full confession.

Work Text:

Peggy sighed happily stretching across the bed, smiling at the feeling of the soft cotton sheets sliding against her bare skin. Contentedly she reached, expecting for there to be a warm body next to her. When she came up with only cold sheets and even colder air she pouted, blinking her eyes open.

Squinting at the small clock on the bedside table. What was the silly man doing up so early, it was barely 7 and their day off.

Huffing she tugged the covers off and rolled out of bed. She plucked one of Daniel’s shirts up off the floor from where their clothing was lying scattered around. Tugging it over her shoulders she smiled, remembering why his shirt was on the floor.

Quickly buttoning up all but the top few buttons she set off to find wherever Daniel had wandered off to.

As she wandered down the hall past the living room and towards the kitchen she heard music pouring out of the kitchen, Daniels' warm baritone floating along with it.

Smiling to herself she slipped in, leaning on the door frame as she listened to him sing.

“No need to tell me now

What makes the world go 'round

When at the sight of you

My heart begins to pound and pound

And what am I to do

Can't I be with you

Sunday, Monday or always”

As she watched him Peggy had to bite her lip, trying to keep back the affectionate grin that was threatening to spread across her face.

“Oh, won't you tell me when

We will meet again

Sunday, Monday or always”

Watching him sway along to the music and listening to him croon our those soft words Peggy felt an overwhelming wave of warmth swell up in her chest. It just kept growing and growing, warming her whole body and nearly bringing tears to her eyes. She didn’t think that she'd ever loved someone this much.

Love? No, no it was far too early for that she couldn’t be in love with him yet. Peggy felt the panic welling up, overtaking the glorious warmth. Stumbling back into the hall she slid down the wall in shock. She couldn’t be in love already, they had only been dating for two months.

But what about New York? a voice in her head asked that sounded suspiciously like Angie. Or how excited you were when you thought he asked for you? Or how sad you were when you learned about Violet?

Ok, ok Peggy thought. And as she looked back at the past year and a half, even just these last few weeks she wasn’t surprised. She couldn’t remember the last time she had been this happy.

Slowly a grin stretched across her face. She was in love with Daniel Sousa.

Gracefully rising to her feet she walked back to the kitchen. Pausing in the doorway once again she looked in, catching the very end of the song.

“If you're satisfied

I'll be at your side

Sunday, Monday or always”

Quickly she crossed the floor, wrapping her arms around him and pressing her face into his neck, knowing that he could feel her smile. “Hey love,” he said, turning in her arms so that he could look at her. She tilted her face up to his, still grinning. “What’s got you in such a good mood this morning?”

“Hmm,” she hummed, wrapping her fingers in his hair, pulling him down for a long kiss. “Not much,” she said softly, breaking the kiss and resting his forehead on hers. “Just realizing just how much I love you.”

Daniel froze, breath stuttering in his lungs. “What?” He asked dimly.

Peggy smiled affectionately at him. “I. Love. You.” She said, punctuating each word with another kiss. She barely had time to finish her sentence before his lips were on hers.

“I love you too,” Daniel said after they broke apart, grinning down at her like a fool. She grinned right back up at him, the warmth returning. As they stood there the first few strains of Glenn Millers “In The Mood” started drifting throughout the room. Daniel rested his forehead on hers and began swaying them. “I love you,” he whispered again, still grinning. Together they swayed, grinning at each other like fools. Fools in love.
