Houndkit was born in a litter of one. He is the only kitten of Windclan, seemingly a miracle when so few kits were being born.
Houndkit is loved. Houndkit is cherished.
Houndpaw is the apothecary cat's apprentice. He is praised for taking on the role, everyone eager to see new life within the healer den. Ryewhisker is the ageing mentor of Houndpaw.
Houndpaw is loved. Houndpaw is cherished.
Ryewhisker is sick. Heatherfeather is sick. Asphodelberry is sick. Windclan is sick.
Houndpaw is safe.
Ryewhisker is dead.
Houndpaw heals the Clan alone.

Houndleap is meeting Starclan. He knows they are cherished. As much as him. Houndleap is young. Too young. Houndleap is the only healer. Houndleap holds the future of the clan within his paws.

A death. No one's fault. His claws rake the dirt. Houndleap is better than this. He saved them once. He can do it again. It's all in control. Everything is fine.

Houndleap has no accidental deaths anymore. He is asked as often as he is praised for his healing, what he does. Houndleap doesn't mention the red berries. A common cure. A cure of what?
