Huntress and Wolfy

Summary:

A monster hunter is alerted about a dangerous beast that threatens her hometown. What she finds instead is a woman she not only knows, but she may have certain feelings for.

Notes:

I have been reading a lot of monster romance stories in the past months and with spooky season right around the corner, I decided to write something outside of my comfort zone. I hope you enjoy - please feel free to comment! :)

Work Text:

Deep in the dark, misty forest, the small stone house was not easy to find. The anonymous tip your hunting party had received a few days ago was pretty detailed, but the path up the mountain was difficult despite the skills the three of you possessed.

The message spoke of a vicious, dangerous beast, whose lair was in the remote house. It was still too close to your hometown for comfort and you felt the need to protect the people you had grown up with. Clara and Red, your loyal companions and extremely skilled fighters and hunters themselves, may not have been too attached to the townspeople, but they wouldn’t pass up on a possible reward for slaying the beast that endangered them.

The full moon lit up the path towards the house, which you carefully approached with weapons drawn. The ground and first floor were both empty, but Red found a suspicious heavy duty door. You too found it strange for it to be covered in locks from top to bottom. A few strikes of Clara’s massive axe against the locks, and soon the door creaked open, revealing a dark staircase that led underground.

You moved slowly and as quietly as your armour and weapons would allow. The basement seemed dark at first, but once your boots touched the ground, you noticed several tall and thick candles standing bright in front of a heavy bars that divided the space in half.

The three of you were greeted by loud and angry growling as the beast inside the bars took notice of you. You fixed your grip on your trusty crossbow and took a few steps closer, letting the candlelight touch you.

This changed the werewolf’s behaviour, to your surprise.

The beast went quiet, its head tilting to the side - much like a curious puppy. It sniffed the air, straining against the chains that held its powerful arms against the stone wall. Then, satisfied with what its nose was telling it, the werewolf calmed down and its tail wagged slowly.

Since you expected a bloody fight, you were taken aback by the very much not vicious werewolf in front of you.

“Lower your weapons.” You said, then bent down to put your crossbow on the floor. The werewolf’s golden eyes followed your every move.

“What?!” Red and Clara echoed behind you.

You glanced at them over your shoulder and that look was enough for them to listen.

Grumbling under their breaths, they put their blades back in their sheaths and waited for further instructions.

You approached the bars and rested your palms against the cold metal. The closer you were, the faster the werewolf’s tail slammed against the dusty floor and the chains jingled as its huge body shifted in its spot. The beast pulled against its restraints and watched you as you lowered your hand to the outside lock to the cell. The moment you touched it, teasing the wolf with the idea of opening the cell, a low whine left its muzzle.

“Don’t do that.” Red warned you, but didn’t stop you.

“It knows me.” You said and another whine came in answer.

“This is dangerous!” Clara hissed the moment you started fiddling with the lock.

In no time, the cell was open and you were slowly approaching the werewolf. The wolf was an image of friendliness and excitement, which was strange to witness on such a powerful creature. It was really cute too.

“Look at it, it doesn’t want to hurt me.” You offered, not taking your eyes off the wolf. You were only a couple steps away and you could feel the hot puffs of air on your fingertips when the wolf sniffed your scent.

“You know me, don’t you?”

You touched the wolf’s muzzle and it nuzzled into your palm, whining and panting happily. Its tail hit the floor like a drum during a parade and made you chuckle. It really was the cutest werewolf you have ever encountered.

“You should leave-”

“Are you mad?!” Red interrupted you. You glared back at your companions, then continued.

“You should leave and find out who wanted us to hurt this harmless wolf.”

“Let me guess - you’re gonna stay here?” Clara scoffed.

She was very aware of how easy you were to be swayed by adorable, friendly creatures. You ignored her jab, though.

“Go.” More grumbling followed, but soon you were alone with the werewolf.

“Well then… Wanna cuddle?” You grinned at the wolf, who let out a happy bark-like sound.

You make yourself comfortable in the werewolf’s lap, wrapping your arms around its muscular and warm middle. Its grey fur is soft like a pillow, even if it’s texture is a bit rough and scratchy.

“Goodnight, Wolfy.” You yawned and let yourself relax. You fell asleep in no time, tired from staying up late to hunt.

You were woken up the next morning by a ray of bright sunlight, which came through an opening high up on the wall. You didn’t notice it the night before. It took you a few moments to fully wake up and remember what happened. When your mind is up to speed, you realised you are no longer cuddled up to a mountain of warm fur. Instead, soft and equally warm skin was under your cheek.

You looked up and met the familiar golden eyes of Alex, who was smiling at you in the smitten way she always did. Her tan skin felt so good under your touch and when she shifted and tightened her hold on you, you felt like you were about to melt.

“Morning, huntress.” She whispered, her voice rough and gravelly, either from just waking up or it was just the aftermath of turning last night.

“Good morning, Alexandra.” You grinned, more than happy that your friendly werewolf turned out to be the tall, well-built, famous blacksmith you liked to flirt with whenever you visited her workshop.

“So…” You trailed off as you reached up and toyed with a soft lock of her long, curly brown hair. “Talented, gorgeous and a werewolf? My, a woman after my heart.”

Alex scoffed and when you thought she would swat your hand away, instead, she took hold of it and brought it to her lips, kissing your knuckles.

“Brave, smart and has a great ass?” Alex slapped your butt lightly, making you gasp. “I think you’re the one who’s after my heart.”
