We Know The Thief, And He Used To Be A Background Character - Book One | Is It A Malfunction If It's Fate?

Summary:

Dreams are supposedly a combination of memories from the past days, two weeks, and months. Percy desperately wants to believe thats what he's dreaming about, just some random mash-up of his annoying math teacher, maybe a guy he saw spar once, or a cute girl he passed on the street, but after seeing the same people in his dreams again and again, it seems less and less likely. Worse, he sees them, and himself, grow older and older. A camp he's never seen, a sword he's never held, and a ship he's never sailed haunt his dreams, and maybe its time to find out why.
---
First book in my first series! This is a re-write of the Lightning thief, where memories from the first timeline (canon) are dreams to the crew of the Argo II. These easily pass as normal dreams, but get more intense the more people from the first timeline they meet.

~Updates whenever i get a chapter out~

Notes:

I DON'T OWN PERCY JACKSON!! These characters aren't mine!! Neither is the original plot!! Thats all owned by Rick Riordan! I occasionally steal quotes! assume its Ricks writing, or if not, paraphrased or slightly changed! (-is that what i need to say? am i gonna get sued? shit-)

Underlined with the cool font means it's part of a memory, but more like an INSTINCT. anything written like this ~(underline)~ is a SEEN FLASHBACK

Chapter 1: Dreams Suck, But School Is Up There Too

Summary:

Basically the intro!
You can get by with skipping this chapter if ya want, but I already write like shit, and do worse when I don't have an established first chapter. This'll probably end up either edited or deleted sooner or later, but for now, this is what we got

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Look, Percy just wanted to be a normal kid.

He didn't ask for ADHD and dyslexia, didn't ask for a missing dad and an even-worse stepfather, and he definitely didn't ask for the strange memories that plagued his dreams every night.

At first, life was... well, not normal, per se, but definitely better.

He had lived with his mom, and her blue cookies, and Smelly Gabe, and his asshole-ness. The dreams were a... more recent problem.

Percy had never know why his mom, a literal angel on this earth, had decided to marry Smelly Gabe, who might as well be the devil, but ever since his life had sucked. He'd been stuck in a routine: Wake up, eat breakfast, avoid Gabe. Go to school, struggle to understand what was being taught, go home, do homework. Get yelled at for something or another, eat dinner, go to bed. And every year, without fail, get expelled from school.

He'd started to lose track of how many schools he'd been kicked out of, but it had to be five or six by now.

The only thing good about his schedule was sleeping. And spending time with his mom, but that was a given. Sleeping, however, had been an escape, in a way. To be able to lie down, and relax, and dream about some far-away land where everything was different, where he had a dad who cared, where he could go to the beach with his mom everyday, and eat blue candy.

Recently though, even sleeping had become a chore.

His dreams had become nightmares, and constantly showed the same few kids, even as they got older and older. Weren't dreams supposed to show memories from a few days, two weeks, and a month ago? He certainly didn't remember these kids, especially not enough to see them over what had to be years.

"Percy! You need to go, sweetie, the start of term is tomorrow, and the train leaves in half an hour!"

Sally Jackson, Percy's mom, called out from the kitchen, and startled him out of his thoughts.

Another school term. Ten bucks says I'll be expelled by the end of the semester

"Thanks, mom. See you soon!"
