When He Sees Me

Summary:

It started with 3 weeks worth of texting...

"You seem to be using me as your free therapist, messaging me sometimes about your day and your weekly stressors. This has been going on for a while now, actually, and it's super cute but I still don't know who you are."

"You just seemed reliable."

Chapter 1: The Squirrel and their Honey

Chapter Text

"A shitty ex of mine or maybe my friends are playing a joke on me; wrote my number on bathroom stalls saying to text me for a 'good time'.

You seem to be the only one who has responded to this wholesomely. In fact, you seem to be using me as your free therapist, messaging me sometimes about your day and your weekly stressors. This has been going on for a while now, actually, and it's super cute but I still don't know who you are."

"You just seemed reliable." Hoyoung replied quickly as he brushed his teeth. He was hovering in the kitchen.

"Please. Nobody says that. Not to my face at least."
"I know it's crazy but… would a call be weird? I don't know. As much as you're concerned, I could be an 80 year old old man who's preying on the young." Hoyoung finished up and headed to his couch to crash on.
"I'm a catfish, you dumb boozoo! You should be more scared of me. I'm packed, you know."
"Sending me an emoji of a flexing arm is not making me believe that you might be 13 and waiting to run away from your mom at all..."
"WHY ARE YOU STILL TALKING TO ME IF YOU THINK I'M 13!?"
"BECAUSE A 13 YEAR OLD WOULDN'T KNOW HOW TO WALK IN A BAR WITH THEIR FRIENDS UNLESS THEY'RE ALL UNDER A TRENCHCOAT!"
"AHA! So you revealed a bit about yourself, dear friend. So you found my number at the bar? Interesting…"
"That doesn't narrow down anything, Sherlock."
"You're lucky I'm not one of the douchebags who just sends a dick pic."
"Aha. You revealed yourself as well. You're a guy!"
"And? Does that change anything? Does that tickle your fancy? Did I shatter your wet dreams?"
"Even without the dick pics, you sound like a dick."

Time soon passed by.
The stranger with no name has not replied yet. Hoyoung was starting to get worried if he was a bit too harsh.
They did push and pull a lot of times before to the point where it looks like outright bullying if you don't know the context.
He was left on read. The stranger was typing then he stopped. Hoyoung felt like he was gonna end their 3 week texting chain soon…
He doesn't text him everyday, so he can't be that attached? Right?

Hoyoung bumps his head with his fist. 'Why am I this concerned over a guy that doesn't even know my name? I don't even know HIS real name!' He thought loudly.

They have only ever called each other "Honey" for the stranger (because he insisted, maybe for some sick fantasy? Hoyoung isn't sure yet. All he knows is Honey seems to be sticky like the real thing. Oh so sly and a person that sounded like they're from a 90s manga.), and "Squirrel" for himself. Now he's worried he'll be viewed as a furry… oh

"So about that call?" Honey finally replied. He sounded genuine and serious, but Hoyoung wonders if that is just his biased mind trying to make Honey sound good. Who knows? He might be a criminal. He could be less than kind. He could have escaped from an institution that didn't have girls or people who are slightly in and out of the closet?

Hoyoung took his time replying as he stared at Honey's name in the contacts.
He pouted.
"If he knows I'm a guy, he'll more likely block my ass." He sighed. "But then again! I never told him I was a girl either…"
Why was Hoyoung obsessed with the idea of having Honey like him?

He would've been happy if Honey was a girl, and he's still happy that Honey is more likely a man! Maybe he is as colorful as Hoyoung as well! Who knows! He could be really nice and make him laugh… come out of hiding…
Someone that when he sees him… wants to again.

"Squirrel?" Honey texted.
It looked like it'd been a solid 30 minutes when Hoyoung had left him on seen. He panicked. That seemed very rude.
"Ah! Sorry. I was doing the dishes." Hoyoung rolled his eyes at himself. What a lie.
"At 10PM? What? Hahahahaha."
"I got lazy, okay? Very judgy. Tsk tsk."
"You're not sleeping yet?"
"I have so much Youtube videos to watch…"
"I'm watching that show about 'Worst Cooks' you recommended. It's so stupid, it makes me feel good about myself."
"I told you. I'm never wrong."

Honey took a while to respond again.
Hoyoung wonders what has gotten into him lately. He usually replies right away or notifies him if he's busy with something. This is a first. Maybe he has guests over?

'Maybe he has a girlfriend…' Hoyoung thought and that immediately ruined the mood for himself.
'Thanks, brain, that makes my day a lot better,' Hoyoung sighed for the nth time tonight and kicked on the air.

Honey dropped a bomb. "Would be nice if I could watch with you, old man."

Hoyoung's heart skipped a beat.
Was he that desperate to be in a relationship to fall completely from a stranger who has never ever even seen his face before?
All he knows… he could end up a miserable husband due to his miscalculating mind and hormones… nasty ass hormones.

"I'm cringe. Sorry!" Honey quickly texted.
"No, it's fine!"
"You don't sound fine!"
"Fuck you!"
"I just wanted to accompany a lonely old man, that's what you said you were, right!?"

Hoyoung laughed to himself.
Was he really falling for this guy?

Hoyoung sent a picture of his hand against a white wall, he was giving the finger. He sent it to Honey without a single caption.

Yes… yes, he was.

"Oh good. You're not 80! I won today." Honey sent a lot of stickers that were celebrating. Hoyoung couldn't help but laugh.
"Fuck you." Hoyoung replied.
"Why don't you come here and do it?"
"Make me."
Suggestive.
They progressed.
Hoyoung is impressed.

Hoyoung hates guessing games. Just because he knows how to solve it fast, doesn't mean he likes it.
He hates being tossed around by fate like talking to man over just text and just hanging by every bubble.

'What if when he sees me, what if he doesn't like it? What if when he sees me, what if he's disappointed? What if he runs the other way and I can't hide from it? What happens then?' Hoyoung hangs around his living room until he eventually locks his phone and stares at the TV.
