Work Text:
Anxiety was something entirely new to Gawr Gura. Living in the depths of the sea for centuries does wonders in the fear department. Constantly worrying for your own survival against the life and environment down there is enough to toughen someone up, especially when exposed to it since you were a little shark. The land above is baby shit compared to the water.
But stuff like this, Gura couldn’t just fight off with a trident or flee from.
Streams were a pain to plan, to say the least. And it definitely isn’t any better when you’ve been gone for almost 2 weeks. The expectations are high and the pressure of your adoring fanbase is crushing. She loved every one of her fans a lot, yeah, but the fear of disappointing them was suffocating.
The Atlantean had been hunched over her desk for the past hour staring at her computer screen. Plastered on the monitor was a gorgeous fanart and a few empty bubbles lazily plastered over it. She hadn’t decided the exact amount of bubbles she should put. Should she add more than usual since she’s been gone for so long? Should she slowly transition in with only a few days this week? Gura banged her head on the desk and kept it there. She closed her eyes and tried to breathe in.
There were still so many things she had to decide. How many days would she stream? What times should she schedule the streams for? What games would she stream? How long should they be?
Too many things at once began to creep into her mind and engulf her already overwhelmed mind. Breathing became panting for Gura as she struggled to think. She could feel the slight tremble in her hands under the desk. As hard as she tried to regulate her breathing and hold her hands still, she just couldn’t control it . Everything was spiraling out of control and Gura couldn’t do anything about it. She couldn’t even make a simple schedule. She was so useless. No matter what she made, it was going to disappoint her fanbase. Gura couldn’t do anyth-
“Hey, bozo, how’s the schedule coming along?” A soft hand placed atop her head knocked her out of it.
The shark glanced up and followed the hand towards the source. She wasn’t even surprised when she found it attached to the one and only Amelia Watson. Her girlfriend always concerned herself with Gura’s business, so it wasn’t completely out of the blue to see her visit during something important like this.
Gura stared into the blonde's eyes. Those sky blue orbs erased any of Gura’s initial stress. The way they peered at her coupled with that beautiful smile just a little ways under. It made Gura’s heart flutter. She could simply stare into this galaxy for hours and hours on end. It was the most peaceful sight she'd ever scene. So simple yet so elegant. How can she look so graceful without even trying?
Wait, wasn’t she supposed to be doing something?
“Hello~? Earth to sharky? How is your schedule looking?”
Ah. That was it. The panic crept through her once again. Vision dilating and hands shaking, Gura’s brain scrambled.
But once again she was pulled out of this haze by Watson, this time playing with her hair. Gura’s sight stabilized and focused on the detective. She was simply staring at the shark, smiling once she caught Gura's eyes staring back. She put a gentle kiss on the shorter girls white hair and moved her hands to cup Gura's cheeks.
“You’re okay, Gura. Just breathe. Don't focus on anything but me. Good, deep breaths like that. Keep that up. Listen to me. I’m here, ok?”
Gura’s panic began to subside at her soothing words and gentle touch. She melted into the soft embrace. In a meek voice she spoke.
“H-how did you know…?”
Amelia shrugged. “Just did. Soulmate intuition, I guess?” She topped it off with a heavenly giggle. Gura swore her heart stopped.
“Ame, I haven’t written anything.” Gura felt disappointed in herself.
“Well, then take a break with me.” The shark furrowed her eyebrows at Watson’s response. She simply smiled back.
“What? I think you deserve a break. Plus, you don’t want another panic attack, do you?”
That was true. The fear she felt there was not an experience she wanted to repeat. Even if it had been a somewhat common occurrence since starting streaming. Gura hated it more and more every time it happened. If a break was what it took to halt that feeling, she would gladly take one. Besides, her butt was starting to hurt from the roughness of her chair.
Nodding, Gura looked down and lifted her hands into the air. Amelia knew this was the signal to pick up her significant other, so she grabbed her and carried her over to their shared bed across the room. Laying down next to Gura, the detective looked Gura’s way.
“How ya feeling?”
Gura didn’t speak but instead let out a long sigh. Amelia couldn’t keep her laughter from pouring out. As Amelia's giggling subsided, there was a comfortable silence for a few more minutes. Neither girl needed to talk. Amelia knew Gura had to rest and Gura just needed the time to breath and reset.
“Did you know your pupils get all small when you start your attack?” Gura didn’t know this. No wonder Ame was able to figure her out so fast.
“I thought you could detect my anxiety because you were my soulmate?” The shark jabbed Amelia's side.
“It’s because we’re soulmates that I noticed your eyes, dummy.”
“Oh.”
Another comfortable silence followed. In the lightest voice she could manage, Gura spoke.
“Thank you, sunshine.”
“What was that?” Amelia's smile confirmed to Gura that she had, in fact, heard her. Why did she have to tease her like this?
“I know you heard me.” Gura blushed.
“I know, too.”
...
“I love you, Watson.”
Amelia grabbed a hold of her girlfriend and brought her closer to her chest. Embracing her with all her might, Amelia let out those 5 magical words.
“I love you most, dork.”
