Jack was torn between letting Allison continue to use him to make her ex husband jealous and to set her, along with the rest of town, straight. Straight, he chuckled to himself.
His phone rang just then, "Sheriff Carter."
Fargo began ranting right away. "You need to get up here, Dr. Girder has locked himself in his lab and refuses to come out."
"Can't Stark handle that?" He rubbed his temples.
"He is in there with him."
"Why didn't you lead with a hostage situation? I'll be there in a few." Jo had taken a week off to visit family so he was alone on this one.
After two hours and Stark promising to review the report that would allow the experiment to proceed Dr. Girder let his hostage go.
Allison found Stark and Jack talking in his office as each man worked on the necessary reports. Neither wanted to talk and were happy with the silence.
"Oh my god Jack, I just heard the news. Are you okay?" Allison's too high voice, colored with fake concern, grated on Jack's nerves.
"Yes, it wasn't a dangerous situation. Just a scientist who felt unheard and unappreciated. Stark was the one locked in a lab for over two hours."
Allison didn't even spare her ex a glance. Instead she sat down too close to Jack and offered to make him dinner. Stark had been unusually quiet this entire time. Jack found himself too tired to let this go on any further. Besides that Stark didn't deserve to treated that way, no one did.
"Allison, can we talk in private?"
"Whatever you want to tell me Nathan can hear." He could feel the smug roll off her.
"I appreciate your offer. I really do, but you are not my type. I know you are using me to make Stark jealous and quite frankly I'm done with it all. Just be an adult and ask him out or move on. For all our sakes." Jack watched her cheeks grow dark red.
"I, uh, I wouldn't use you like that. And what is your type? Do you prefer blonds?"
"I dont blame you and I'm not mad, but you did. And hair color is of no consequence to me. You would have to change your chromosomes for me to be interested." Jack saw the suprise in Stark's green eyes before turning back to Allison. She was quiet while she put it all together.
"But Zoe?"
"Not that its any of your business but my ex partner and I used a surrogate. Now if you'll excuse me I have a report to finish." He picked up his paper work and only looked at Stark when he opened the door. "See you around Stark."
Stark waited for the door to shut before laughing, harder than he had in too long. "Oh Allie, you really did it this time."
"Shut up Nathan." Anger seethed from her retort.
"So I guess you won't be asking me out again?" He sincerely hoped not because he had someone else in mind. His bisexuality wasn't a secret in Eureka, but dating Carter might suprise a few people.
Allison stalked out of his office, her cheeks still red.
