Work Text:
“What about this one?” Jungkook says, holding up yet another button up shirt for his friend to look at.
“Hmmmmm” Taehyung hums, hanging upside down off the end of Jungkook’s bed “Sure it says put together but does it say slutty enough?”
Jungkook groans and throws the shirt on the growing pile of clothes his best friend has deemed not good enough for his date tonight.
“Tae, it’s a tinder date WHY does it matter.” Jungkook whines.
“Your outfits always have to say something Jungkook, you can’t wear all black to everything and expect to make a good impression.”
Jungkook knows Taehyung is technically correct but he really doesn’t want to admit it.
“Plus you’ve been talking to this guy for like a week now, you actually like him.”
Jungkook blushes at the claim and turns away from his friend.
“See! You do care you’re just nervous!” Taehyung rolls off of the bed and walks over to Jungkook’s small closet.
“Here,” Taehyung pulls out a Flowing navy blue button up shirt covered in poke dots from the depths of his closet “Wear this and leave the top four buttons unbuttoned.”
Jungkook takes the top and pulls it on. He turns to the mirror and looks at himself.
Okay now he gets what Taehyung meant when he said he needed to look pulled together and slutty.
“You’re going to sweep this guy away Jungkook.” Taehyung smiles at him over his shoulder through the mirror.
————————-
“Do you want another drink?” The bartender asks Jungkook.
Jungkook stares down at his empty glass and gives a small nod.
He’s been sitting here for the past fifteen minutes and there was still no sign of Taemin.
He had been skeptical of using tinder but Taehyung convinced him it was a good idea, that he knew plenty of people that had met people on the app.
Maybe Jungkook was stupid to trust his friend when it came to dating...
He had really liked Taemin, he was funny, smart, hot as hell and to top it off he liked Jungkook back.
Or, at least he thought he did.
Jungkook pulls his phone out and his heart drops when he sees that he still has no new messages.
He opens his phone and stares at his text thread with Taemin
Jungkook: hey! I’m here!
He feels sick to his stomach but he can’t stop himself from doing the cursed double text
Jungkook: hey are you coming?
“Here you go.” The bartender sets the fresh drink in front of Jungkook, forcing him to look up from his phone.
“Thanks” He says in a soft voice.
“This one’s on the house…..I hope you don’t have to wait any longer.” The bartender’s eyes are soft and filled with sympathy.
Jungkook wants to be mad that this bartender he doesn’t know feels sorry for him but he mostly just wants to go home now and get out of these stupid clothes Taehyung made him wear.
Just as he goes to take a sip of his drink, his phone lights up.
He almost drops it while trying to open it.
Taemin: sorry i’m not interested anymore
——
Jungkook splashes water on his face in a feeble attempt not to cry
He’s so stupid why would he think someone from tinder would take him seriously, why did he even think it was serious to begin with.
He only talked to the guy for a week and he was already this invested. How pathetic.
Just as hot tears start falling down his face, the bathroom door bursts in.
A slender man with blonde hair falling over his eyes stumbles through the door and stops once he spots Jungkook.
The two stare at each other, frozen.
The man is so gorgeous, even while clearly drunk, that Jungkook’s not even sure he could describe it in words. His eyes are sharp, lined with eyeliner to make them stand out even more. He’s dressed in nice clothes that are obviously expensive that show off how long and muscular his legs are.
“You’re crying.” The man states, words slurring together.
“Uh…yes.”
Jungkook seriously wants to disappear right now.
This man is probably the most beautiful man he has ever seen in his entire life and jungkook is CRYING in front of him.
“What why are you crying?” He says sounding absolutely heartbroken “You’re too pretty to cry please stop crying.”
“It’s stupid…” Jungkook trails off. The man is giving him puppy dog eyes and looks close to tears himself. He’ looks so genuinely sad that Jungkook is sad.
Maybe that’s why he tells him what happened.
“I got stood up by a guy I met on tinder tonight..”
The blonde lets out a dramatic gasp and practically sprints across the bathroom to wrap his arms around Jungkook.
Normally Jungkook would not let a stranger touch him like this but right now a hug is exactly what he needed.
Plus, this stranger is giving him the best hug he’s ever had in his life.
“Who in their right mind would stand you up? Look at you! You’re so pretty and tall and you have big hands!”
“Big hands?” Jungkook questions, face burning up in embarrassment
“Yes!” The blonde says hugging him tighter “and you have big brown eyes that remind me of bambi I hope a hunter didn’t shoot your mom.”
The blonde sounds close to tears again.
“Nononono my mom is alive.”
“Oh good.” The blonde lets out a sigh of relief “You’re too pretty to ever be sad ever. I want to see you smile I bet you have a pretty smile too”
Jungkook is positive that his face is bright red at this point thanks to all the compliments but he can’t find it in himself to care that much.
He likes the way this stranger is complimenting him. Like he’s something to be proud of.
“Look.” The blonde finally pulls away from Jungkook and grabs his face to force him to look in his eyes.
“You are so important and treasured and you’re going to do great things don’t cry over some loser in a bar bathroom.”
All of his words are slurred but his tone is serious and Jungkook feels like tearing up again but for an entirely different reason.
“Thank you so much you have no idea how much that means to me.” Jungkook whispers, trying hard not to cry again.
“‘I’m just telling the truth!” The blonde smiles. “And you’re definitely better in every way than that boy that stood you up! I would have never stood you up!”
The man grabs Jungkook’s arm and pulls a marker out of his pocket.
“What the..” Jungkook stutters while the blonde focuses on writing something across his forearm.
“There!” the blonde says, holding Jungkook’s arm up so he can see it.
Written in the nicest handwriting he’s ever seen, the boy has written what Jungkook can only assume is his phone number surrounded by small hearts.
“Text this number tomorrow and i’ll show you how you should be treated!” the blond smiles at him.
Jungkook’s heart is going into overdrive, this stranger already has him feeling so fond and he doesn’t even know who he is.
Just as Jungkook is about to ask what the blonde’s name is, another man bursts through the bathroom door.
“There you are! I’ve been looking for you everywhere we have to go! Seokjin’s drunk enough to get on the dance floor.”
“HOSEOK!!!” The blonde yells, finally letting go of Jungkook’s arm. “Meet my new best friend and my future boyfriend!”
“Oh my god,” The man apparently named Hoseok sighs, clearly just noticing that there is another person in the bathroom “you’re so much drunker than I thought we definitely have to get you home.”
“Nooooooooooo” The blonde wraps his hands around Jungkook’s waist again “I don’t wanna leaveeeee”
Hoseok sighs again and looks at Jungkook “I’m so sorry, he’s a clingy drunk.”
“No I-I don’t mind...he’s been very nice.” Jungkook stutters, his face turning a bright red for what feels like the millionth time.
“You should go with your friend” Jungkook says to the blonde this time “I’ll text you tomorrow.”
“Promise?”
“Promise.”
The blonde untangles himself from Jungkook’s torso and lets himself be led out of the bathroom by Hoseok.
He gives Jungkook a tiny wave before he disappears.
Jungkook will most definitely text tomorrow.
---------
“Just text him already i’m tired of you pacing the entire apartment.” Taehyung yells from the couch, not even looking up from the game he’s playing on his phone.
It’s been a full 20 hours since Jungkook got the number of the most beautiful man in the world and he still hasn’t found the courage to text it.
“What if he was too drunk and he doesn’t even remember me? Or worse, what if he remembers me but now he thinks that I'm pathetic and he regrets giving me his number in the first place? Or what-”
“Okay!” Taehyung exclaims, slamming his phone down on the coffee table “it’s a text! you have nothing to lose! But from what you told me, it sounds like this guys was definitely into you! Plus he was sober enough to write down an entire phone number that’s completely legible!”
Jungkook stares down at the 10 numbers written neatly on his arm and the little hearts all around them. Taehyung is right, they are very neat for someone who was drunk.
“Okay….one text.” Jungkook says, finally sitting down on the couch.
He pulls out his phone and types in the number.
“.....What do I say?”
“Oh my god just say hi or something, tell him you’re the guy from the bar!” Taehyung groans, already picking his phone back up and returning to his game.
Jungkook: hey it’s jungkook! you gave me your number last night at the bar I don’t know if you remember….
“Oh my god I did it.” Jungkook says in disbelief “Oh my god, what if he doesn’t text back what if-”
He’s cut off with a text notification.
?: of course I remember you! It’s not every day you see a handsome man crying in the bathroom….my name is jimin by the way i’m sorry if I was weird last night
“HE TEXTED BACK!!!” Jungkook screams right into Taehyung’s face “Jimin is such a pretty name”
“Oh my god you’re this whipped already and you just learned his name?!” Taehyung laughs.
Jungkook just hits his in the shoulder in response
Jungkook: no not weird at all, you made me feel a lot better I promise! and it’s nice to finally know your name I've been calling you the pretty blonde for the past 20 hours….
Jimin: pretty huh?
Jungkook: you already called me handsome….
Jimin: …….okay you got me there you ARE handsome though
Jungkook: oh, thank you….
Jimin: so jungkook...I remember promising you i’d show you how you should be treated
Jungkook: uhhhh yeah…
Jimin: what are you doing tomorrow night?
-----------
Jungkook felt a lot more comfortable getting ready for his date this time around, he didn’t even need Taehyung’s help to pick out an outfit.
“My little Jungkookie is all grown up!” Taehyung had yelled at him as he was leaving, wiping fake tears away from his eyes.
Jungkook was too excited to even be mad.
The restaurant Jimin picked is a short drive from his apartment and he makes it there in record time.
It’s five minutes before Jimin told him to meet him there but Jungkook decides to walk in anyway. He has a feeling he won’t have to wait that long.
He wasn’t expecting to already find Jimin sitting in one of the waiting chairs, wringing his hands.
His heart warms at the sight and he wonders how long the other man has been sitting here.
“Jimin!” Jungkook exclaims, waving his hand once the blonde looks up.
“Let’s go get our table!”
He has a strong feeling he’s never ever going to need to use another dating app ever again.
