Chapter Text

“It’s been a while.” Hitoshi slid into the seat across from Shouto, setting his glass down and waving off Denki.

Shouto rolled his eyes and scoffed, “a while is an understatement”. Pro Hero work had gotten the best of them and they hadn’t talked in almost 2 months. The only reason they were face to face now was the party Jirou had invited them to. He didn’t want to admit it, but he’d missed Hitoshi a lot. They’d become surprisingly close after being adopted by Hizashi and Shouta at 16 and had even moved in together for a while after graduation. Of course, that all ended once Midoriya asked Shouto to live with him and Hitoshi decided to move back in with their dads. “How’s Eri been?”

“Still top of her class, which is no surprise for the future number 1 rescue hero,” he smiled softly and took a sip of his drink. “You should come over soon, I’m sure she’d be excited to see you.”

“Me and Izuku were planning on it actually. We have something to talk to everyone about...but I wanted to tell you first.” Shouto fidgeted nervously with his hands which would have had Hitoshi worried if he didn’t see the smile on his face. “We’re planning on adopting soon.”

“Hizashi’s gonna lose his mind about being a grandpa.”

“I think they already lost their minds when they decided to become dads”

“You’re right about that,” Hitoshi laughed, “but I’m glad they did.”

They both settled into a comfortable silence, smiling to themselves and observing the party around them. Shouto could still remember the day he got the confidence to come forward to Shouta about his home situation. He’d been 15 and scared with Izuku holding his hand to ground him as he once again told the lengthy story of quirk marriage and abuse. Shouta had silently listened until the end when he placed his hands on Shouto’s shoulder and promised that things would change. That he would make sure they changed no matter the obstacles and would fight for him.

And change they did. It was a surprisingly short battle with Endeavor but it seemed the threat to his public image was more important to him than his already rebellious son. Shouto hadn’t, however, expected Shouta and Hizashi to fight for his custody. He knew they already had Histoshi and Eri at that point and had a hard time believing he’d be anything but a burden. Those fears proved baseless within days of living with them as they seamlessly integrated him into their lives. He may have never started calling them dad like Hitoshi and Eri did but he's sure they understand how he feels since he changed his last name to Aizawa-Yamada. While he still had his siblings and mother, the love and support he’d received in their household was something he wouldn’t trade for the world.

“If I told you me and Denki were thinking the same would you think I was copying you?” Hitoshi said, snapping him out of his reminiscing.

“You know I used to think I’d never want kids.”

“Me neither.”

“Funny how things can change huh.”

Hitoshi finished his drink and stood up abruptly. “I’m getting another. You want anything?”

“Surprise me.”

Hitoshi broke out into a wide smile before walking off towards the bar. As he walked, he thought back on how bitter he used to be about adoption. His birth mom had given him up when his quirk came in and he was passed from foster home to foster home until he was 15 with varying levels of success. Even the nicer foster parents never considered adopting someone with a quirk like his and he’d expected to age out of the system. Things changed rapidly after the sports festival and Shouta’s offer to train him. Shouta had been very open about being bigender once he realized Hitoshi was trans as well and was appalled to learn about the constant misgendering he faced in the system. They grew very close over their shared bond and would often go out to cafés with Hizashi after training just to talk.

After the fight at Kamino Ward and the fall of All Might he was given a week off training while the dorm situation was figured out and parents were contacted. He voiced his concerns that being in the foster system might keep him from living in the dorms and continuing at UA but Shouta reassured him that it wouldn’t be a problem. When he showed up for their continued training, he wasn’t too surprised to see Hizashi there but was thrown off when they sat him down and asked if he’d let them adopt him. He’s not proud to say he cried but he heard Shouto and Eri cried when they got adopted too so he doesn’t feel too bad about it.

“What are you smiling about?” Denki asked, placing a hand on his back and making him jolt.

“Nothing important. I’m just very lucky.”

“Not as lucky as me,” Denki sung and kissed his cheek.

“I have to get some drinks and head back to Shouto but what do you say after this you come home with me and have dinner?”

“Of course babe,” Denki smirked, “and soon enough we’ll have dinner together in our own home.”

Hitoshi put his hand on Denki’s face and shoved him back while turning his head to hide his blush. He grabbed their drinks and headed back to the table. He set his glass down and slid Shouto’s across the table with a flick of his wrist.

“Hitoshi...”

“Yes?”

“This is just water.”

“Surprise!” he threw his hands up and gestured to the glass with a flourish.

"Why do I put up with you,” Shouto said, laughing into his hand.

“Because you love me.”

“I guess.”

“Are you free after this?”

“Yeah. Let’s go home...”
