Work Text:
"I don't feel comfortable taking him in there with me."
"I'm not asking for me, it's a public relations type of deal. If it was my choice, you would still be on the street and he wouldn't be within a hundred feet of that place."
Jungkook ran his hands over his face, irritated and worried.
"Commissioner, please. Why does it have to be me going?"
"Because you're our best detective and most familiar face to the public." The commissioner hated having to pull his top detective even for a day, but his hands were tied.
The public wanted more of an insight into how the police handle criminals. This led to Commissioner Min assigning Jungkook to go walk around a prison. To make the public think that there is enough safety measure put in place, Jungkook was being forced to bring his husband, Jimin, in with him. Jungkook hated the thought of bringing in civilians, dreaded the thought of bringing his little Jiminie around those people. He had enough faith in the security of the prison, but he hated the thought of bringing innocent Jimin around those cold blooded people.
Leaving the building to head home, Jungkook felt anxious about telling Jimin about the Commissioner's plan. He knew Jimin wouldn't try and fight him on it, he always wanted to be supportive about his job, even though it terrified him every time Kook walked out the door.
***
The door closed behind Jungkook as he walked into the house. He could hear the TV on in the living room. He hung up his coat as he slipped off his shoes. Walking into the living room, he could see some old rerun of a show Jimin and he would watch in the evening. He heard a short yelp as the sound of a pan hitting the floor sounded throughout the house.
Hurrying into the kitchen, Jungkook saw Jimin leaning down to pick up an empty pan. Jimin noticed Jungkook as he started standing back up, startling the small boy as he fell backwards. Jungkook couldn't help but laugh at how cute his tiny husband was. He walked over and took the pan from Jimin's little hand, setting it down on the counter. He leaned forward to move some of the hair that fell in front of Jimin's eyes.
"I didn't hear you come in." Jimin mumbled, looking into his husbands eyes. He wrapped his little hand around Jungkook's wrist, using is to pull the other closer so he could give him a kiss.
Pulling away, both had smiles on their faces. Jungkook loved this, this domestic feeling, when he can come home and just kiss his tiny husband and forget about the stress of life and work.
"You shouldn't leave the TV on that loud, baby. I've asked you that how many times now?" Jungkook asked, lightheartedly. He worried about the smaller being home alone, it didn't help that he was a bit of an air head at times. Jungkook had lost track of the amount of times he caught his husband starring off into space, nothing able to grab his attention, that mixed with the loud TV always playing to give him the sense of others, tended to put Jungkook on edge.
Jimin pouted as he looked down, he knew Jungkook worried about him, but he felt lonely when the TV was off. He needed sound in the house when he was alone, made him feel safe. He knew he tended to have the volume a bit too loud when he would move to the kitchen to start making dinner. Half the time he couldn't hear Jungkook when he came home, wouldn't hear Jungkook call out for him. He only noticed the younger whenever he walked into the kitchen, more often than not, scaring the smaller, much like today.
Jungkook laced their fingers together as he brought his other hand under the smaller boy's chin. Gently lifting it up, he looked the boy in the eyes, he hated nagging Jimin, but he was only doing it to make sure he was safe even when he was home alone.
"You know I love you right, baby?" Jungkook asked, leaning forward to brush his nose against Jimin's. The smaller boy giggled, pulling himself to sit in Jungkook's lap. The two wrapped their arms around each other, Jimin's around Jungkook's neck and Kook's around Jimin's waist, as they sat on the kitchen floor.
"I know you do, and I love you too." Jimin said sweetly, brushing their noses together some more. They sat there, Jimin resting his head against Kook's shoulder. It was a calm moment until Jimin's stomach growled, the small boy blushed as he hid his face in Jungkook's shirt, the taller only laughed at how cute Jimin was, clinging onto him.
"Why don't we finish making dinner?" Jungkook asked, pulling a blushing Jimin away from his chest. He only got an embarrassed nod as his answer. Jungkook smiled as he placed his hands under Jimin's thick thighs and stood up from the floor. Jimin wrapped his arms and legs tight around his husband as he was carried and put down on the counter.
"So what were you going to cook, baby?" Jungkook asked, turning on the stove to let it warm up.
"I was thinking chicken with some potatoes. What vegetable to you want tonight?" Jimin replied, pointing to the chicken he had sitting in the sink to cook.
"How does green beans sound?" Jungkook asked, walking over to get the now thawed chicken.
"Sounds good to me." Jimin said with a smile. He hopped down from the counter and walked over to the freezer and grabbed a bag of frozen green beans. He placed them in the sink to thaw them and walked over to see Jungkook seasoning the chicken.
"Do you need help, baby?" Jimin asked, looping his arms around Jungkook's stomach.
"I got the chicken taken care of. Do you want to start on the potatoes?" He looked over his shoulder to try and see Jimin, but he could easily feel the smaller pressing his face into his back. He knew Jimin tended to be a bit clingy after Jungkook got home from work, he honestly loved it so he never said anything about it to the smaller.
After another minute of clinging onto the taller, Jimin finally let go of his Kookie and went to the pantry to grab some little red potatoes. He took them over to the sink to clean them before putting them in a pot of water to boil. After he was done, Jungkook was already cooking the chicken in a pan. Jimin took the thawed green beans and threw them in a pan to start cooking.

The two boys sat at the dinner table and ate dinner. They talked about lighthearted topics, making the other laugh with funny stories and jokes. After all the food was gone, they cleaned up and went to watch some TV before getting ready for bed.
They laid on the couch, Jimin between Jungkook's legs with his head on his chest. Jungkook had his arms wrapped around Jimin, fingers laced together.
During a set of commercials, Jungkook decided to bring up the topic of the prison visit. He leaned forward a bit to whisper in Jimin's ear.
"Baby? Commissioner Min called me into his office today." He whispered.
Jimin turned his head to look at his husband, confused as to why he seemed a bit uncomfortable. "Why? Is something wrong?"
"No, no nothing's wrong. He just wanted to give me a special assignment." He took a deep breath, watching Jimin's reactions.
"Well what's the assignment, Kookie?" Jimin fully turned around to face Jungkook, straddling the boy in front of him.
Jungkook rested his hands on Jimin's hips, taking a minute to admire his beautiful husband. "He wanted me to go visit the local prison and do a walk through for the cameras. Commissioner thinks it'll help the public understand the process better."
"Well why do you seem so upset, you've visited the prison dozens of times?" Jimin asked, playing with Jungkook's fluffy hair.
Jimin could feel Jungkook's grip on his hips tighten as he responded, "He wants me to bring you along on the walk through. He thinks that having a detective bring his husband with him into the prison will show that the prison is safe."
Jimin let out a little 'oh' before resting his hands on Jungkook's shoulders.
"Yeah, I know it's safe in there, but just the thought of you in there worries me. You're my baby, and I don't want to risk you getting hurt." Jungkook pulled his little husband against his chest, terrible thoughts of what could happen to the tiny boy filling his mind.
Jimin could feel his husbands chest rising and falling quickly with his ragged breathing. He hated seeing Jungkook worked up. He was used to seeing him get a bit tense about work, but this was beyond anything else he had seen. He knew his husband was a bit overprotective of him, so he had dealt with burst of panic from Jungkook when the two would get separated out in public.
"Kookie, I'll be fine. You'll be there with me and there will be all those guards just in case. You even said it yourself that you believe the prison is safe." Jimin leaned back, running his hands calmingly through his Kookie's hair.
"I know, but I keep thinking of all the ways something could go wrong and how you could get hurt." Jungkook looked up at Jimin with glossy eyes, grip not letting up.
It broke Jimin's heart to see his big, strong husband look so scared. Seeing the tears start to fall from his eyes made Jimin have to fight off his own tears. He took the sleeves of his sweater and gently patted aways the other's tears. He tried to reassure his husband that everyone will be fine and nobody would get hurt. Slowly getting Jungkook to calm down.

Once they calmed down, Jungkook carried Jimin into their bedroom to grab clothes to sleep in. He grabbed the clothes, refusing to let his Jiminie out of his arms. Jimin just wrapped his legs and arms around his clingy husband like a baby koala.
Jungkook walked the two to the bathroom and sat the clothes down on the sink. He was reluctant to let Jimin down, so he sat him down on the sink as the two brushed their teeth. He left the boy on the sink as he turned on the shower.
He turned around to see his little Jiminie staring at him. He couldn't help but smile and laugh at how adorable his husband looked. He moved back over to the boy on the sink, standing between his legs.
"Why were you pouting, baby?" Jungkook asked, playful smirk on his lips as he ran his hands over Jimin's sides.
"I missed you." Jimin pouted, tiny fingers grasping at Jungkook's shirt.
Jungkook laughed as he kissed Jimin's forehead. "Baby all I did was turn on the shower."
Jimin pouted even more, "But you left me."
"Baby, I was two steps away from you. I would never leave you, you're my baby." He cupped Jimin's chubby cheeks as smushed them together as he gave the smaller a kiss on the lips.
"But I was cold." Jimin said as he pulled Jungkook closer.
It took Jungkook a moment to figure out what he was talking about. Then it hit him, Jimin liked the skin to skin contact partly because of the body heat. "Aww my poor baby."
Jimin only whined and tried to get closer.
"We should really get in the shower before we waste anymore water." Jungkook finally spoke. He pulled the oversized sweater Jimin was wearing over his head before doing the same to his own shirt. He finished stripping both of them of their clothes before carrying Jimin into the shower with him.

On the day of the walk through, they were awoken by Jungkook's alarm. Jungkook groaned while Jimin burrowed deeper into the pillows and blankets. Jungkook turned off his alarm before rolling over to try and find Jimin in the pile of pillows and blankets.
"Baby?" He rasped, voice thick with sleep as he reached out to try and find his baby Jiminie. He pushed some of the covers away, not finding the tiny boy.
"Baby, come on. Don't hide from me." Jungkook whined, wanting to hold his baby.
Jimin let out a whine after Jungkook tossed his last blanket away. He stopped whining once Jungkook pulled him against his chest.
It took a while and a lot of Jungkook pleading with Jimin to get them both out of bed and ready to leave. Jungkook admired his sleepy Jiminie trying to not fall asleep as he brushed his teeth. He pull his clothes on before helping Jimin with his, the poor boy clinging onto him making it a tad more difficult.
The boys eat a quick breakfast, Jimin having to be fed by Jungkook while he nursed a cup of coffee, struggling to wake up.
They got in the car and Jungkook drove them to the prison. Once they arrived, Jimin could tell Jungkook's nerves were starting to kick in.
Jungkook met with the camera people who would be following them through the prison, making sure to keep an eye on Jimin. He didn't feel comfortable with the small, delicate boy being here, anyone could tell he was an outsider.
The most frighting part for Jungkook was definitely first going into the prison, he worried about how Jimin would react once he was in there. His worst fear was that the smaller would panic and have to be taken out. If that happened, Jungkook would still have to finish the walk through before he would be able to go comfort his baby, he didn't have the heart to do that.
They walked in, hand in hand, Jungkook made sure to keep Jimin as close to him as he could. The cameras were rolling as they walked in and was greeted by the head of security. He walked ahead of them as he explained, mainly to the cameras, about how things work in the prison.
Everything was going smoothy for the most part. Jimin was still by his side, calm as long as he was touching Jungkook, mostly clinging onto his arm. The worst that they had dealt with was some of the inmates catcalling Jimin, even though Jungkook expected that, he still wanted to strangle each of the inmates that shouted lewd comments at his innocent baby.
They made it through the cafeteria with only two people trying to touch Jimin, luckily the guards stopped them before they got close enough for Jungkook to get his hands on them. Jimin only clung closer to Jungkook as they stood in the large room, guards close by to keep everyone safe, mainly Jimin because he seemed to peak the interests of the inmates.
After the cafeteria, they made their was to the yard, Jungkook watched as the inmates eyed Jimin up and down. He kept Jimin in front of him as they stopped and talked to the camera, arms looped around Jimin's tiny waist to show he was taken.
Jungkook was so focused on Jimin that he didn't realize he was being called.
"Detective Jeon, would you mind showing us how you deal with aggressive suspects?" The head of security asked.
Jungkook really didn't want to separate from Jimin, but he knew he couldn't say no. "Sure, I'd be happy to." He lied through his teeth, slowly releasing Jimin from his protective arms.
Jimin rocked back and forth on his feet as he watched Jungkook explain and demonstrated how he dealt with things on the job. Jimin glanced around and noticed a lot of the guys looking at him. He felt a bit uneasy, he noticed the guards that were supposed to be watching him and making him feel safe were paying attention to his husband and their boss.
Jimin noticed a boy that looked to be around his age start to walk towards him, Jimin started to feel dread in the pit of his stomach. He wanted to call out for Jungkook, but he knew he was busy and just wanted him to finish whatever he was doing so they could move on. As the inmate got closer, Jimin realized how much bigger the guy was compared to him, which, honestly, wasn't difficult to achieve.
Jimin felt frozen as he saw the look in the other's eyes, he looked at Jimin like he was prey. Just as Jimin tired to run for Jungkook, the inmate grabbed Jimin and pulled him against his body. Jimin let out a cry as he tried to push the other away.
Jungkook felt his blood run cold as he heard Jimin's cry. He turned to see his precious baby struggling to get away from one of the inmates and felt like he couldn't breath. He could hear Jimin start to sob as he tried to get away, it was then that he noticed none of the guards were trying to help his husband. He felt furious at the cowards that were leaving his baby to fend on his own. He rushed forward to try and get to his Jiminie away.
Jimin heard Jungkook moving towards him, but so did the inmate. He felt one hand leave him as he was man handled so his back was pulled back against the other's chest. He grasped the arm wrapped around his chest and shoulders keeping him pinned, he looked up with teary eyes and saw Jungkook moving towards them. He could feel the inmate's arm move back around and saw Jungkook's eyes go wide as he stopped short, he noticed he moved his hand to his belt, ready to draw his gun.
Jungkook saw the glint of the makeshift knife in the inmates hand. He moved his hand to his gun, he wasn't going to let that bastard hurt his baby. He could hear shouting from behind him, but the blood rushing in his ears kept him from understanding a word.
Jimin saw Jungkook draw his gun as he felt something sharp press against his throat, he let out a scared cry as he tried to move away, but he had no where to go. This only caused the painful sensation to get worse. He felt so helpless, and he could tell that his husband felt the same way.
Jungkook felt sick to his stomach. He had been in plenty of these types of situations, but never with Jimin. He saw the knife press further into Jimin's skin, heard his baby cry out from the pain.
"What do you want, just let him go?" Jungkook said, trying to keep his voice steady.
"I want out. What else would I want. Now either I leave this place on my own, or pretty boy here leaves in a body bag." The inmates voice terrified Jungkook and he could tell Jimin was panicking.
"Just let him go and we can talk." Jungkook tired to reason, he couldn't focus, seeing tears run down his baby's cheeks and sobs rip from his throat.
"I'll let him go once I'm outside. Now either I get out or you're little boy toy won't be so fun to play with anymore." He moved the knife up to Jimin's face, pressing it against his cheeks and lip.
Jimin chocked out a cry, "Kookie!" He was trembling violently as he watched his husband.
"If you hurt him, you aren't leaving here alive." Jungkook spoke slowly, voice low. He tried to find a shot, but it was too dangerous, he couldn't risk hitting Jimin.
"I don't think you're the one who should be making threats officer." He lowered the knife to Jimin's stomach, lifting up his shirt to expose this skin, and pressed the tip of knife into his skin. Jungkook could see blood as Jimin shirked and curled forward. Jungkook took the open shot and aimed for the inmates shoulder, the large man yelling in pain as the other guards took him away.
Jungkook rushes forward to catch his husband before he collapsed on the ground. He yelled out for a medic as he lowed his crying baby to the floor to look over his injury. He held one of Jimin's still shaking hands as they waited for the medic. He noticed the wound wasn't deep, probably didn't even breach the layer of muscle. He felt a bit of relief that Jimin would be fine, but still wanted to destroy everyone in the yard.
The medic finally showed up and had Jungkook carry him to sick bay where he held Jimin's hand while he cried as the doctor sticked up the wound on his stomach. He held his baby the best he could while the doctor worked, kissing away his tears while whispering encouragements into his ear.
Once he was cleared by the doctor, Jungkook carried Jimin out of the prison and settled him into the passenger seat of their car. He was about to get into the driver's seat until the head of security and head of the camera crew came running up to him. Jungkook felt anger boil up inside of him, all he wanted to do was get his baby home and in bed.
"I can't begin to say how sorry I am for the lack of action my men took in the yard." The head of security started. Jungkook wanted to punch him, but gritted his teeth, he knew Jimin was watching and that he hated when Jungkook got into fights.
"I have to say, the footage we got of you handling the inmate was amazing." The head of the camera crew said. Jungkook couldn't take it, they seemed completely unfazed that his husband got hurt and could have been killed. He felt his blood boil at how happy they seemed to have gotten footage of the most terrifying moment in his whole life.
"I'm so happy that my husband's suffering will be good for your ratings. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take my injured husband back home and take care of him." Jungkook said through his still clenched teeth. He yanked open the driver's door and turned to look them in the eyes, both men seemed confused at his aggression. "Burn in hell you useless excuses for men." And with that, he got into his car and slammed the door.

Jungkook carried Jimin into the bathroom, sitting him down on the sink counter while he went to get comfortable clothes to wear. He returned quickly to find Jimin's tear filled eyes as he looked down at his wound. Jungkook worried about this happening on the drive home, he knew the wound would heal in a couple weeks, in honestly, it wasn't even that bad.
Jungkook walked in and sat down the clothes, walking straight to Jimin. He grasped his husband's tiny hands and held them tight. Jungkook kissed Jimin on the lips before pulling away and gently kissing his wound. He wanted to make sure that Jimin wasn't insecure about it.
He slowly pulled off their clothes, whispering sweet things to cheer up Jimin before turning on the shower. He made sure to clean Jimin really good, used his favorite body wash, making sure to kiss Jimin as many times as he could.
He gently patted Jimin dry with a towel before slipping on the smaller's clothes. He carried Jimin back to their bedroom after they were all done.
The two spent the rest of the day in bed, Jungkook cuddling the smaller and trying to make him smile. He only left to make them food, he didn't want to give Jimin any time to get inside his own head. He knew his baby, and he didn't want to see him get upset over this.
Jungkook couldn't stop beating himself up over this. He promised that Jimin would be safe, that he wouldn't leave his side, and he still ended up letting his precious baby get hurt. He gripped the kitchen counter, biting his lip to stop his tears. He felt responsible for Jimin, he always had. He felt like he had let him down, that he failed his husband. He could feel the hot tears finally fall down his face.
He thought about what could have happened to Jimin back at the prison. He froze when he saw Jimin with the knife to his throat, he could have been killed and Jungkook would have just stood there, useless, just like the guards. He fell to the ground, completely breaking down. He sobbed on the floor, pictures of Jimin hurt and bleeding filling his mind. He felt so helpless, so useless.
He couldn't hear the tiny footsteps on the title, but he felt the tiny hand grasp his cheek. Jungkook gasped, eyes flying opened to see his concerned husband sitting on his knees in front of him. He reached a shaking hand out to cup Jimin's cheek, pulling him in for a gentle kiss.
"I love you, baby. I'm so sorry I didn't protect you today." Jungkook said, sorrow filling his words.
Jimin's eyes filled with unshed tears as he listened to his husband. "Kookie, I love you too. And you did protect me today. You were the only one that tired to save me, you did save me." Jimin said, leaning forward kiss Jungkook.
"But you should have never been put in that situation, baby." Jungkook said as they pulled away.
"It wasn't your fault, Kookie. You were doing your job. It was the guards that didn't do theirs." Jimin reassured.
Jungkook gently picked up Jimin and brought them back to their bed, he pulled the covers up around them and pulled Jimin impossibly close. The two held each other close, not saying anything, just enjoying having each other in their arms. Jimin fell asleep with his head resting on Jungkook's chest, the sound of his husband's heartbeat lulling him to sleep. Jungkook let himself finally drift off to the sound of Jimin's even breathing.
