Chapter Text
Back then, everything was perfect. It is a shame it didn’t last. Maybe it will in another life.
Yoongi took a deep breath after checking if everything he has prepared is in place. Everything has to be perfect. He fixed his hair and straightened the crumple on his shirt. He froze when he saw the love of his life ascending the stairs leading to the rooftop.
“Yoongi,” the man can’t help but grin widely as he eyed all the things prepared for him. He continued following the trail of petals of white lilies that lead him to the shorter guy.
“Jin-hyung, I-I…” Yoongi trailed off unable to utter the words he’d been practicing all day and night to say. Seokjin looked at him expectantly, a smug smile forming on his lips. The younger bowed his head, eyes fixed on his shoes, as he can’t seem to stop the blushing. “I’ve wanted to ask you this question.” Yoongi paused once again and gulped, trying to overcome his nervousness. “Will you go out with me? W-will you be my b-boyfriend?”
Yoongi wanted the ground to swallow him when he looked up and saw Seokjin frowning, but his embarrassment and hopelessness then changed into pure joy when Seokjin’s lips quirked into a smile. He approached Yoongi and left a peck on his lips. “How’s that for an answer?”
Yoongi was taken aback, but he quickly recovered from his state. It was now his turn to have a sly smile. Seokjin played with him so he should get his revenge. “After putting me into a lot of hard work and trouble and after teasing me like that, I think I deserve more.”
Seokjin scoffed. “Fine. What do you– ” He was cut off by Yoongi’s lips crashing onto his. It was more than just a peck and it was what Yoongi wanted. It had been what Yoongi wanted. They shared the long passionate kiss until Seokjin pulled away gasping for air.
“You know you could have just taken me out to eat sashimi or we could’ve just watched a movie at our apartment. You really outdid yourself.” Seokjin told his roommate, now boyfriend, as he took a bite of the grilled steak Yoongi ordered.
“Well, since this is the start, I want it to be memorable and of course, I will definitely outdo myself if it’s for you,” Yoongi replied making Seokjin’s cheeks and ears red.
It was a perfect day and it was memorable. Yoongi’s words stayed on Seokjin’s mind as well.
--
“Yoongi, hurry up or we’ll miss it!”
The first time it showed was when the two were out on a holiday on a beach. They woke up early to watch the sunrise as they were told it would be a breathtaking moment.
Yoongi sighed, following his boyfriend as they walked by the shore. “I could have been in my bed enjoying my sleep.”
Seokjin hit the man’s arm making him wince. “Yah! Don’t you want to spend time with your handsome boyfriend? Besides, they said the sunrise here is one of the most beautiful views ever! If you want to go back to sleep and miss it, then go ahead. It’s not my loss.” Seokjin ranted and walked faster to keep a distance from Yoongi.
The younger just chuckled and shook his head. He started jogging and shortly caught up with Seokjin. “I guess I should go back to sleep. I get to see the most beautiful view everytime I wake up anyways. I’m sure the sunrise doesn’t compare to you.” Yoongi grinned triumphantly after seeing how flustered Seokjin is.
“Pabo.” Seokjin whispered and started walking away still avoiding eye contact with his boyfriend. A few steps in, he began feeling dizzy and suddenly, everything faded into darkness as he collapsed to the sand.
“Seokjin!”
--
Seokjin woke up in an unfamiliar room. He soon remembered what happened and realized he is in a hospital. He felt someone gently brushing his hair from his forehead.
“Mom?”
His mother looked down at him with a small smile on her face. She looked tired. Her hair is disheveled and her eyes are puffy and red. “How are you feeling, dear?”
“I’m feeling better.” He scanned the room and sought for a particular face. His mom noticed it and smiled again. This time, it’s brighter, more genuine.
“I sent Yoongi home for a while. He’s been with you ever since you got here. He actually doesn’t want to leave. He really loves you, doesn’t he?” His mother sent him another smile and a pat on his hand.
There was a knock on the door. Seokjin expected it to be his loving boyfriend, but expectations don’t always live up to reality. The doctor entered and checked up on him.
“It’s good to see you woken up and very positive, Mr. Kim. Don’t worry. I’m sure you’re going to survive through this.”
“Survive what?”
The doctor shifted his gaze to his mother who averted his eyes. She then shook her head and the doctor nodded in acknowledgment.
“What’s happening?” Seokjin queried once again, but neither one of the people in the room gave their response. When he finally got his answer, he wished he didn’t ask.
He was diagnosed with a disease that is incurable, but he would be receiving treatment that can hopefully, prolong his life. The doctors discovered the disease early, but they still aren’t sure if Seokjin could get through his condition since only a few have survived.
Seokjin wanted to scream, cry, and curse at whoever made his life end up like this. He’s still young, has many things to do and dreams to fulfill. He wanted to spend more time with Yoongi and do the plans they talked about – getting married, adopting kids, and having their own house in Jeju. He didn’t want to leave Yoongi.
“M-mom, h-have you told Y-yoongi?” Seokjin managed to say in between his sobs.
His mother shook her head and Seokjin felt a bit of relief. “I’m leaving the decision to you.” He was relieved, but he felt like a weight was added to his heart. How would he tell Yoongi? How can he tell the love of his life that he’s leaving and never ever going to come back? Another knock was heard after the doctor left interrupting Seokjin’s train of thoughts.
Yoongi entered and beamed after finally seeing his boyfriend awake. “Hey.” He greeted, a little more cheerfully than usual.
“Hey.” Unlike Yoongi’s, Seokjin’s greeting sounded forlorn and it was accompanied by a weak smile. Yoongi took note of them. The younger bowed to the other man’s mother, who shortly left to give them privacy.
“Is everything alright?” Yoongi asked, taking a seat beside Seokjin’s bed and leaving a kiss on his forehead. “I noticed your mother’s eyes are kind of puffy. Has she been crying?”
“Yeah, no, everything’s fine.” Seokjin lied. “Mom’s fine. It’s just – she just missed me I guess. You know I’m her baby.”
“What about you? Are you okay?” Yoongi’s voice and eyes were full of concern and worry. Seokjin bit his lower lip. He knew the truth would break Yoongi.
“I’m feeling better now that you’re here.” He tried to convince Yoongi but the latter still looked skeptical so he sent him a reassuring smile. “Everything’s okay, Yoongi. Don’t worry.”
Yoongi sighed and let the topic go. He was sure that Seokjin would let him know if something is wrong. “So, what did the doctor say? I saw him leaving your room. Are you gonna get out soon?”
“Yeah, he said that I can probably go tomorrow and stress and fatigue are the reasons why I passed out.” Seokjin replied and it wasn’t exactly a lie. He was going to get out of the hospital but he will need to visit for monthly checkups and with his condition, the doctor told him not to overwork himself.
“Then you shouldn’t work too much! Hyung, you should take care of your health! Don’t worry. From now on, I promise to do most of the chores and I will even cook for you.”
Seokjin shook his head. “Yoongi, you don’t have to do that. I can still do them, but not too much, I guess.”
“But I don’t want you getting sick anymore. I missed you.” Yoongi pouted and Seokjin chuckled but his smile soon faded away. He also didn’t want to get sick since it means leaving the one he loves.
“I’m sorry we missed the sunrise.”
“Hyung, didn’t I tell you before? I’ve got the most beautiful view right here.” Yoongi said and pecked Seokjin’s lips. “Besides, we have a lot of time to go back to that beach. We’ll be together forever, right?” Seokjin looked up at the ceiling to prevent the tears in his eyes threatening to fall. Still with teary eyes, he turned his gaze back to Yoongi and beamed.
“Right.”
--
Days passed and Seokjin was glad he got to live another day. Everything was going just how it was. Seokjin had done a good job in keeping his condition from Yoongi’s knowledge, but days pass. He knew Yoongi would find out soon as he got weaker day by day.
“Hyung, I’ll pick you up at 7:30, okay?”
“Okay, see you. I love you.”
“Yeah, I love you too.”
Seokjin ended the call and chuckled to himself. Yoongi sounded awkward saying those words and it was unusual for him to say it so it was somewhat awkward for Seokjin to hear as well, although he knew Yoongi loved him very much even though he doesn’t say it aloud.
He readied himself and arranged his things before Yoongi picks him up. He just left his office when it happened again. Seokjin started to feel light headed and unstable, and suddenly everything went black.
Yoongi was driving on his way to Seokjin’s workplace when his phone started ringing. Confusion and anxiety filled him after seeing Seokjin’s caller ID. They just had a phone conversation and Seokjin could have just texted him unless it’s urgent or there was an emergency
“Hello? Jin-hyung? Is everything alright?”
His heart stopped beating when he didn’t hear Seokjin’s voice, but his mother’s and she was crying.
“Yoongi…Seokjin is…”
