Summary
“Alright,” Eddie shrugs, laissez-faire. He pulls Buck’s plate to the center of the table; pushes his own forward in kind. Then he begins a drawn-out circus routine of plucking an olive at a time up and out of the bowl and plopping them onto their respective dishes, one by one.
The delicate, repetitive movement of Eddie’s pinched fingers reminds Buck of picking the petals off of flowers. He loves me. He loves me not. He love—
An olive hits him square in the forehead.
“There,” Eddie says, resolute, as the pitted projectile tumbles to the ground at Buck’s feet. “Equal treatment.”
Or: Buck, Eddie, and the olive theory. Well, in theory.

"Are you married?”
Christopher coughed so hard he nearly dropped his phone.
Buck choked on nothing.
Eddie said, “No.”
Theo turned to Buck. “Why?”
Buck’s mouth opened.
Eddie got there first. “Because you have to ask someone before you marry them.”
Theo considered this.
Then he looked at Buck. “Did you ask?”
“No,” Buck said quickly.
Theo looked at Eddie. “Did you ask?”
“No.”
“Why?”
Christopher whispered, “Great question.”

Summary
Buck debated saying something, thinking through how he could put it into words when it hit him like a ton of bricks. Tommy. He’d said that someone’s first queer relationship usually wasn’t their last, and Buck couldn’t do that. He could survive a rejection, but he couldn’t survive knowing what it felt like to have Eddie and losing that. He couldn’t work next to Eddie, knowing what his lips felt like or what he looked like disheveled in a bed they shared or wrapped around him when they were making breakfast. He wouldn’t come back from that.
He’d let Eddie get his first out of the way, and then he’d say something. Then, he could be the last if Eddie would have him.
—
Or Eddie comes out, but Buck took Tommy’s words to heart, and he won’t stop trying to set Eddie up so he can get his first out of the way. Eddie has plans of his own that Buck is really getting in the way of.

Summary
“So,” Eddie said.
Buck glanced over. “So.”
“Beck asked me out.”
The world narrowed.
Buck’s hand froze on the truck. “What?”
--
Or, Beckett Walsh, a firefighter from the London Fire Brigade, joins the 118 for a three-week exchange program and looks exactly like Buck.
Everyone sees it.
Everyone except Eddie.
So when Beck asks Eddie out, Eddie says yes, hoping one date might help him understand why every relationship before this has felt almost right.
Unfortunately for Buck, “almost right” looks a lot like him.

Summary
Eddie leaned down towards Buck, and Buck instinctually put his hand out to rest on Eddie’s side. Eddie’s arms landed on either side of Buck on the couch. And then Eddie was in his space, his lips pressing briefly to Buck’s cheek.
“Thanks, Buck,” Eddie said, still so, so close to Buck. “I’ll see you at home.”
He said goodbye to the rest of the crew, and then he was gone, his boots thunking down the stairs.
or,
Eddie kisses Buck goodbye. They aren't together yet.
