Summary
Mydei and Phainon are childhood best friends who live together in the small village of Aedes-Elysiae. When Phainon goes missing at sea and returns a few days later, something about him has changed. Phainon has been possessed by an otherworldly entity. Although they look, talk, and act the same, Mydei sees the new 'Phainon' as someone else.
When Mydei questions 'Phainon's' identity, he reveals his true nature, pleading with Mydei for secrecy. Torn between grief and unresolved unrequited love for the past Phainon, he agrees. Now, the two have to pretend that 'Phainon' is real while trying to uncover exactly which entity is possessing him.
Mydei knows he doesn't have much time left before he's taken back to Castrum Kremnos. He has to become someone he's not, marry someone he doesn't love, and live a life he doesn't believe in. It's his "duty", but all he wants is to stay by 'Phainon's' side.

Summary
Death isn’t a foreign concept to Boothill. He’s flirted with it almost daily, constantly teetering between the thin sliver of life and death. When you knock at death’s door almost daily, Death becomes your friend.
Boothill's life changes when he meets this fanatic knight named Argenti. Argenti was the kind of man to seem mad at first, but as time progressed, the cowboy couldn't help feel affection for him. Shortly after, he began to cough up crimson petals.
The knight called it "Idrila's Blessing," but he knows otherwise. These damned flowers mean his death. With little time left, Boothill's left with an ultimatum: either confess his undying feelings for Argenti, or succumb to the Red Death.
Boothill knows that Argenti'll never love him back. That's something he's accepted a long time ago. Yet Death creeps closer to him, and with what limited time he has in this universe, the cowboy wonders what hurts more: the suffering from the Red Death, or the suffering from unrequited love.
