No. 31 - Setbacks
The curtains were closed, but the sun was still dimly lighting his room.
It may as well have been nighttime for Eddie, it was as though the colour had drained from everything.
He laid there as the sun hit its peak, as it started to set again and the room darkened.

Buck is away from home babysitting for Chimney and Maddie when Eddie has a bad week. He tells nobody, and stays in bed. Buck is worried.

Buck’s hand froze on the truck. “What?”

Or, Beckett Walsh, a firefighter from the London Fire Brigade, joins the 118 for a three-week exchange program and looks exactly like Buck.
Everyone sees it.
Everyone except Eddie.
So when Beck asks Eddie out, Eddie says yes, hoping one date might help him understand why every relationship before this has felt almost right.
Unfortunately for Buck, “almost right” looks a lot like him.

Summary
Really, Alex had more of a life left than Nigel. He could go home, fabricate some story, condemn Nigel with his own delusions and get off scot-free. Of course he could – he was in the position to, wasn’t he, smart and white and with a future, free of bias from the system. But this control over Nigel – he didn’t want to relinquish that. And Nigel had nowhere to go.
And, although he would never say it out loud, the rush of the gun under his chin and Nigel at his feet was something that he would quite like to replicate. The risk. The reward.♠︎
The gun misfires. Alex realises he can hold himself hostage to keep Nigel alive. They flee to London and begin to dance around faux-normality, but it won't last long.

“Eddie,” a familiar voice cuts through, and the sound alone almost makes him sob. He thought he’d forgotten her voice. Kim had a lot of elements of her, but not this, never this. Not her voice, not her laugh, not her.
Eddie squeezes his eyes shut, shoving the shirt harder against his side, grunting as another pulse of pain radiates through him.
“Not now, Shannon,” Eddie grits out, teeth clenched. “I can’t do this. I can’t—”
“You got something better to do?” Shannon asks.
OR: Trapped in an elevator, Eddie finally gets some closure.
