Detective Chloe Decker had a reputation.
Detective Chloe ‘Joan’ (pronounced John) Decker was all business, as hard as nails. She’d inherited that reputation, and her name, from her father, former LAPD chief ‘Iron John’ Decker, a tough on crime hard-nosed cop.
She was the Golden Girl of the LAPD's Homicide and Organized Crime division.

“I’ve been invited to a party…”
“I’m not going on a date with you, Lucifer!” Chloe snapped. “I’d hoped I’d made that clear!”
“I will honor your request until you change your mind,” he said in the smarmy British accent that drove her up the wall.
“I won’t,” she snapped at him (at the same moment the pencil in her other hand snapped).
“I am… truly confused… by your refusal, but I will nonetheless honor it,” he said, his voice sounding painfully frustrated. “My invitation still stands.”
“So, what is this party?” she asked suspiciously.
“It’s a party up in the Hollywood Hills for a pro quarterback,” Lucifer said. “He’s one of these straight arrow kinds of chaps… I know his agent and he said he’s throwing a party to try to get him to loosen up a bit. He’s signing a new contract, too, which is one reason for the celebration.”
“Who is it?” Chloe asked, curious about who the player was.
“Ty Huntley,” Lucifer said.

Summary
Chloe leaned back against the wall of the elevator, one hand covering her eyes, trying to resist the racking sobs that shook her.
Oh… oh… oh God… oh… oh… Lucifer, her heart wailed, grieving for the being who’d looked at her with devastated eyes… red, amidst the wracked ruin of his black and red scarred face.
Her heart ached at the agony she saw in his grief-stricken face… poor… poor devil… her… beloved… damned… tormented… partner… the… devil… on earth…

Days before…
Amenadiel was gone, and Charlotte was dead. She’d been shot dead at an overlook that offered a great view of the city… and apparently cover for a hidden shooter, who’d shot her dead. When Chloe and Lucifer arrived on the scene, they’d found that someone from the precinct had already called Dan, because they found him cradling Charlotte in his arms, as he sobbed.

Summary
In some parts of this series of sometimes connected and sometimes free-standing stories, Chloe’s not with Lucifer. In Chapter One and the other Las Vegas stories in this AU, she’s met him, and worked with him, but they aren’t together.
And while he did kill Pierce to save her, she doesn’t know he’s the devil, just that he disappeared after the killing. She didn’t see his devil face.
A year later, she's at some gawdawful convention in Las Vegas, after a long and crappy day, and she's afraid the airline lost her luggage.

He doesn't care that they don't believe he's the Devil. The only person whose opinion really matters is Chloe. And she doesn’t think he’s crazy.
