   Honestly I grew up in Germany, UK and India where everyone I knew used both the metric system and feet/inches for general everyday use. I now live in the States where of course most folks don't use the metric system but some do understand it. Anyway... I see you commented elsewhere too and am glad you are able to ignore this author's choice and enjoyed the rest of the story! :)
