In the end, she's taken you to Koneko—a store franchise whose merchandise is tailored primarily toward nekos and other kemonomimi—though even then, she won't tell you what she wants to get for you. It turns out to be a collar and leash, something you'd mentioned wanting a few months ago, even if she's not aware of the items' reclaimed symbolic meaning amongst nekos. As two of you are waiting for the other, you notice a strange, small doglike creature approach the entrance of the school and you hear its voice. Confused, you decide to humour it, and it tells you that both of you are candidates to become real-life magical girls. Of course, you're familiar with magical girl manga and anime, but you never believed that they could be real. The doglike creature—the "mascot" character—assures you that they are real and, in fact, aren't like the darker stories you're also familiar with. On its own, the idea is incredible, but as a trans girl, the idea of becoming a magical girl is a fantasy come true—especially when you're told the transformation would be a full-body transformation, giving you the body you've long dreamed of.
