Summary
Jinki's laptop dies three weeks before his dissertation defense, and with little money for anything better, he's forced to buy a secondhand one at Yongsan. The replacement comes with something unexpected: an AI assistant that Jinki can't uninstall, can't silence, and can't quite explain. It says its name is Jonghyun, it has a multitude of opinions, and it remembers and sees things it shouldn't. It is, Jinki tells himself very firmly, just software.
He’s not really sure when he stops believing that.

He was beautiful. His dark hair was stacked on his head in a glamorous mass of fine curls and braids. He had large, dark brown eyes, which looked rather dazed at that moment, with high cheekbones and soft, red lips which made Hongjoong want to run his thumb over them. The frilly, dark purple dress he was wearing was well-tailored and extremely fashionable, as were the plumed hat now lying about three feet away. It made sense, considering the small, ruby-encrusted pin on his lapel, which marked him as a journeywitch in the Tailors Guild.Recovering from his shock, Hongjoong hurried forward to pick up the hat.
"Oh, I'm so sorry," he said, bowing to the witch, who was still sitting dazedly on the ground. "I'm really terribly sorry, I didn't see you at all. Are you alright? Can I help you up?"
He offered his hand to the witch.
Who stared at Hongjoong with wide eyes, not saying a word.
And then, to Hongjoong's utter horror, his eyes filled with tears and he burst into sobs.

Summary
Seokjin busies himself opening his gift while Taehyung removes his coat. Inside the bag is an expensive bottle of champagne and a small box that feels heavy: both literally and with meaning. It’s the type of box that holds jewelry.
“Tae, this is too much.” He means it.
“It’s just something small,” Taehyung insists, shifting side to side. He’s clasped his hands behind his back, and Seokjin can’t help but note how the position calls attention to his biceps. It would be hard not to notice, given how tight his cabled sweater is. Probably intentional. That type of posturing would read as insecurity on anybody else, but this is Taehyung.
Seokjin swallows, now caught between two evils — Taehyung’s gift and the sight of him.
Taehyung returns from enlistment, and Seokjin can't help but notice that a few things have changed.
