A wanting soul is a soul that cannot depart.
He looked back at Dumbledore’s tall and slightly pale form. There were lives at stake, people counting on him, friends waiting for him—and yet…

So he bent down and gently picked up Voldemort’s sliver of a soul, curling its cold and surprisingly heavy body in his arms while Dumbledore watched silently. He did not interfere, his blue eyes unreadable, but Harry could have sworn that he saw the faintest hints of not only resignation, but anticipation, that twinkle—that damned twinkle—still in his eyes. As if Dumbledore had expected Harry to make this choice.
