Castiel Novak lives a quiet, well-ordered life - until the day he notices the most appealing omega scent he's ever encountered, lingering in the stacks of his library. The fact that he can never seem to find the omega themself drives him almost to distraction. When he accidentally catches a homeless drifter named Dean sneaking into the library after hours and identifies him as the elusive omega, there's no stopping the attraction between them.

Next time he sees him, he spots him behind the glass doors of the ER entrance. Before they swish close, he makes out the hunched over figure of the man, curled onto the hands twisted in his lap. For a fraction of a moment, he looks so uncomfortable and out of place on the faded yellow of the plastic chairs of the waiting hall — as if a mighty beast was confined in a space where it doesn't belong by nature’s design.
