Coryo is sitting on the floor by the window today, playing with the last of the wooden soldiers his father gave him years and years ago. He has three left. He lost the others when the bombings started. He still cries about them sometimes, when he thinks no one can hear.
Tigris has never known what to do when he cries. She isn’t Aunt Caelia, with soft words and kind smiles. She isn’t her Uncle Crassus, with stern eyes and a commanding presence. She isn’t either of her own parents, who she lost before the war even began.
