“Bullshit!” Dick repeated, with that same snarl. “Don’t ever say such bullshit, Bruce. Never again, you hear me?”
It had been a long time since he last snapped at Bruce so suddenly and so quickly, but the man’s statement — and the baffling confidence in which he said it, the fact that he was ready to act like a stubborn Bat by digging his heels in to defend such nonsense — was enough to flare that infamous dormant temper.
Sure enough, Bruce leaned back on his chair, eyes mournful with self-depreciation as he turned to face the window, looking over the rosebushes and the large oak tree in the near distance.
“It is true,” his voice, too, carried that note of rueful resignation, a tone adopted when one stated an unfortunate yet undeniable fact. “Bruce Wayne is just—”
“I’m warning you, Bruce. Don’t even finish that sentence.”
OR
After a breakup, Bruce asks existential questions about who he is beneath all those masks. Dick has no patience for this foolishness.

Summary
Dad is going to die, and it’s going to be all my fault.
It would have been redundant to say it was a cold and dark night in Gotham. Regardless of the season, regardless of the effects of global warming, regardless of the brightness of the streetlights or the flickering of the neon signs, every night in Gotham was cold and dark. Those characteristics could not be separated from the cruel city anymore than one could disregard the influence the Wayne family had over its affairs, all of it sewn into every stitch of the Gotham’s very essence.
As he stared at the loaded gun pointed in their direction, twelve year old Bruce Wayne was suddenly and viscerally acquainted with that cold and that darkness.

Though the Waynes were spared from a tragedy that night in Crime Alley, Bruce is still inspired to dedicate his life to saving Gotham.

Jason considered it amusing, how Dick hated speaking about Bruce, and yet saw him everywhere - an incessant presence, guarding over his former Boy Wonder with a morbidity that, Jason would say, was mutual.
And Dick didn’t reply, didn't say his name out loud. Like a curse, wary that pronouncing it could've awakened dormant feelings and old drama.
"Listen, dude," Jason broke the silence, at last, fiddling with his fingers like a bratty child waiting to be punished. "Bruce―he said I could stay with you on the weekends and with him the rest of the week."
