Chapter Text
Six weeks after their amazing honeymoon, Riley finds herself standing in the kitchen on her day off, cooking herself some lunch and humming along to the show playing on the TV in the living room. She woke up alone in bed, but found a note on the nightstand from Mac, telling her that he loved her and that he’d see her in the afternoon. Riley loved how thoughtful he was, even when has to get up early for work, he always makes sure to be quiet not to wake her. Flipping the Grill cheese, she had in the pan on top of the oven, she smiled and turned the burner off before placing the grilled cheese on a plate and making her way into the living room.
“Sorry, Steve Harvey, but I’m not in the mood to watch your show today.” she said, picking up the TV remote and changing the channel
Finding something new to watch, she set the remote aside and picked up her grilled cheese and took a bite out of the corner. Tasting the buttery, crispy bread, with the melty, American cheese, she felt her eyes rolled back into her head and a satisfied moan escape her. As Riley continued to eat and watch a new show she put on, she felt her stomach begin to rumble and the taste in her mouth begin to change, almost like a metallic taste. Quickly getting to her feet, Riley rushed to the bathroom and fell to her knees in front of the toilet before throwing up everything she just ate.
“Ugh,” she groaned, leaning away from the toilet and against the tub, as she wiped the back of her hand against her mouth, she realized something, “Wait a minute.” she said, getting up and heading to the kitchen to check the calendar
Pointing at today's date, Riley covered her mouth and smiled before rinsing her mouth out and leaving the house with her wallet and car keys. Racing to the closest pharmacy, she brought her car to a screeching halt and ran inside to find the planned parenthood section. Grabbing a two-pack of pregnancy tests, she speedwalked to the front desk and had the woman behind the counter scan the item.
“Hopefully, this turned out to be happy for you.” the woman said, handing Riley her receipt and pregnancy tests
She nodded and smiled as she took her things, “Here’s hoping.” Riley said, slightly nervous about the thought
Rushing out of the store, she hopped back into her jeep and drove back home where she left the TV on and her food on the coffee table. Jogging down the hallway, Riley entered the bathroom and closed the door behind her before ripping the pregnancy test box open. Sitting on the toilet with the tests beneath her, she slowly felt a stream of urine flow and made sure to get the tests evenly soaked. After putting the caps back over the test pieces, Riley washed her hands and set a timer on her phone before pressing her hands against the bathroom sink and looking at herself in the mirror.
Closing her eyes, she let out a breath, “Please, please, be positive.” Riley prayed, desperately wanting these tests to come back positive
To pass the time, Riley walked up and down the hallway with her hands pressed together as she quietly repeated, ‘please,’ over and over. Shutting off the TV to hear herself speak, she paced around the living room and anxiously bit her fingernails. What would she tell Mac? How would she tell him? That’s the only thing she worried about right at this moment. Hearing the timer on her phone go off in the bathroom, she quickly ran down the hallway and shut it off before looking at the tests that laid face down on the bathroom sink.
Letting out another anxious breath, Riley picked them both up and closed her eyes, “Please.” she said, one last time
Flipping the tests over, she felt a smile form on her face and legs almost fall out from under her. Setting the tests down on the sink, she covered her mouth and felt a happy tear stream down her cheek as the word, PREGNANT, stared back at her from the test screen. Picking up her phone, Riley quickly dialed Leanna and Desi’s phone number, telling them both to meet at the house. They didn’t ask questions, they just heard Riley crying happy tears and made their way over.
FIVE MINUTES LATER – LEANNA AND DESI ARRIVE
Coming into the house, Leanna and Desi found Riley standing in the kitchen, crying happily and they quickly hugged her, not knowing why she was crying. Rubbing her back, they both pulled away and looked at their friend's face. Keeping her hand on Riley’s shoulder, Leanna spoke up as her friends' happy sobs slowly died down.
“Ri, hey, what’s going on? You’re scaring us.” Leanna said, with Desi by her side
Pulling the tests from her back pocket, Riley showed them to her friends, who were instantly shocked, “No!” they smiled, as they saw the positive pregnancy tests
Riley nodded and smiled, “I’m pregnant.” she said, happily as her friends hugged her
Desi shook her head, “When did you find out?”
“Literally five seconds before I called you guys, you’re my best friends, you deserved to know.”
“You haven’t told your husband?” Leanna asked, as they made their way towards the couch
She shook her head, “He’s at work, and I want him to stay focused, but could you guys help me plan a gift I can give to him as a surprise?”
They both nodded, “Absolutely, what did you want to do?” Leanna asked, placing her hand on Riley’s knee
LATER AFTER A SHOPPING TRIP AND DOCTOR’S VISIT
With everything out on the kitchen island, Riley placed a baby blanket in the bottom of a cardboard box, along with a set of sonogram pictures, a shirt saying, ‘You’re going to be a dad,’ and the pregnancy tests set next to the shirt and sonogram pictures. Smiling at the little gift, she closed the box and put a bow on top before making her way into the living room to sit down. Looking at her stomach, Riley placed her hand on top of it and smiled to herself.
“I can’t wait to meet you, and I know your father is going to freak out. I’m still a little nervous about this whole thing but no matter what, we’re going to be a family.” she said, with her hand over her stomach and a smile on her face
Feeling her phone in her pocket, Riley pulled it out and dialed Mac’s number.
CONSTRUCTION SITE – ACROSS TOWN
As Mac got ready to pack up his tools and make his way towards home, he heard his phone begin to ring in his pocket and quickly pulled it out to see Riley’s name and face flash across the screen. With a smile on his face, he answered the call;
“Hi, honey, how was your day?” he asked, placing his cooler in the back seat
Riley smiled, “Really good, when will you be home?”
Mac chuckled, “I just finished packing up and I’m hopping in my truck right now, why, what’s up?”
“Nothing, I just wanted to know when you’re going to be home, and I have a surprise for you.”
He felt a smirk form on his face as he started the trucks engine, “Oh, and should I keep my eyes closed?”
She chuckled and shook her head, “No, it’s not that kind of surprise, I’ll be waiting outside for when you pull in.”
“Okay, I love you.” Mac said, pulling onto the road to make his way home
“I love you too, see you soon.” Riley said, with her phone against her ear and a hand against her elbow
After they hung up, she looked at the gift box for Mac before making her way outside to sit on the stairs leading to the front door. Holding her hands together, she felt the ring Mac gave her and felt a smile form against her lips and she began to fiddle with the ring.
“I hope you guys are proud of your son.” she said, thinking of Ellen and James
A FEW MINUTES LATER
Watching Mac pull into the driveway, Riley stood up from the steps and slowly made her way to where he usually parks. As he brought his truck to a slow and steady stop, he opened the door and scooped his wife into his arms before kissing her passionately. Riley was caught off guard by this but she didn’t mind a little passionate kiss. Carefully setting her back down, Mac broke the kiss he started and smiled at his beautiful wife.
“Good afternoon to you too.” she said, with a smile on her face
Mac chuckled, “Just giving my wife a kiss.” he said, opening the back door to his truck and grabbing his cooler
Riley stopped him and took the cooler, “My surprise is inside, give me your hand, and close your eyes, I’ll guide you in.”
Giving her a smile, he did what he was asked and closed his eyes once his hand met hers, “Please tell me you didn’t buy a dog.”
She giggled, “Nope, it’s not a dog, I can promise you that.” Riley said, opening the front door to the house
Setting the cooler down by the door, Riley closed it behind her and slowly guided Mac towards the box on the kitchen island. Once he was in front of it, she smiled and let go of his hand before leaning against the counter.
“Open your eyes.” she said, softly
Slowly opening his eyes, Mac saw the large cardboard box in front of him and gave Riley a confused smile as he gently scratched the back of his head.
“A box?” he joked, getting her to chuckle a little
She shook her head as her chuckle slowly faded, “Open it.” Riley said, wanting him to continue
Letting out a sigh through his smile, Mac removed the red bow from the top of the box before carefully opening the folded top. Looking down inside the box, he felt his eyes soften and his heart skip a beat as he slowly lifted one of the pregnancy tests from the box. Slowly bringing his free hand to his mouth, Mac covered his mouth and looked at Riley with tears in his eyes.
“You’re pregnant?” he asked, softly
She nodded and smiled, “Six in a half-weeks.” she said, with tears of her own
Wrapping his arms around her, Mac lifted her off the ground and began to spin around with her in his arms, “Honey.” Riley giggled, in his arms
“This is amazing, when did you find out?”
“Around lunch time, I felt sick and ended up puking in the toilet, after that, I rushed to the closest pharmacy and took the tests.” she explained
Picking up the sonogram photos, Mac brushed his thumb against the image and smiled, “That’s our kid, that’s my child.” he said, feeling a tear escape from his eyes
Cupping his face, Riley wiped his stray tears away, “Honey, why are you crying?”
“I’m happy.” Mac confessed, taking her in his arms
Rubbing his back, she felt his tears soak into her shirt and smiled, “I love you; you know that?”
He snuffled and rubbed her back, “I love you too, thank you, for giving me the best news of my life.”
Pulling back from the hug, Riley smiled and felt him pull her in for a soft, emotional, loving kiss. Leaning their heads against each other, they both smiled and snuffled slightly, “I love you, so much.” Mac said, with his hand against her cheek
Nudging their noses together, they both smiled, “Words can’t describe how much I love you, Angus MacGyver.”
Snuffled slightly, they pulled their heads apart from each other and smiled at the sonograms of their unborn child, “What are you hoping for?” she asked, leaning her head against his shoulder
“I want a happy, healthy, baby boy.” he confessed
Riley smiled and hummed a little, “You’re going to be an amazing dad, you know that.”
Setting the photos down on the counter, Mac wrapped his arms around his wife and pulled her in close, “And you’re going to be an extraordinary mom, don’t ever forget that.”
Holding onto each other, they both smiled and shared another kiss before hanging the sonograms photos on the fridge then ordering some takeout to celebrate the announcement. Everything in their life was finally complete, well, almost.
ONE YEAR LATER
Sitting in the nursery they put together, Riley held her and Mac’s first-born child, Wyatt MacGyver, as she rocked back and forth in the rocking chair Mac had made for her. Wyatt was a whopping 7lb, 3oz, and had the cutest little dimples, just like his father. Walking into the nursery with a cup of freshly brewed tea, Mac smiled at his wife and set the cup down on the table beside her before gently rubbing his son's cheek then kissing Riley’s head. Smiling at the kiss, Riley looked up at him then back at their son who slept peacefully in her arms.
“Isn’t he perfect?” she asked, in a soft voice
Mac nodded and placed his hand on her shoulder, “He’s our perfect little boy, you did amazing, Rile’s.”
She smiled, tried to get up but couldn’t risk it, “Can you take him? I don’t want to risk waking him up.”
“Yeah.” he said, softly, walking to the front of the chair
Carefully picking up his son, Mac smiled and kissed his head before walking towards the crib and placing him down, gently. Leaning his hands against the edge of the crib, he felt Riley come up behind him and felt her hand against his back, slowly rubbing it. Smiling at each other, they both shared a kiss before looking at their baby boy sleep peacefully in his crib, wearing his blue onesie with space ships scattered around it.
“I love you, Angus MacGyver.” Riley said, leaning her head against his chest with his arms wrapped around her
Mac smiled, “I love you too, Riley MacGyver.” he said, before kissing her head and watching their son sleep
