Chapter Text

“My lord!” Luciennes voice called. Dream turned towards her, one eyebrow raised.

“Yes, Lucienne?”

“You were gone for a while, my lord.” She continued, concern quite clear in her voice.

“There was no need to worry. Didn’t Matthew convey my message?” Dream asked, casting a look around as if in search for the mouthy crow.

“He did, my lord. Only I didn’t expect you to be gone for quite this long.” Lucienne allowed.

“I had things to take care of.” He said dismissively. Lucienne’s eyebrows climbed.

“Things indeed!” A voice interrupted. Dream turned. Standing there, bowler hat in one hand and cane in the other, stood Fidler’s Green.

“Fidler’s Green,” Dream greeted. “I thought you returned to being…you?”

“I had, my lord, but I simply had to visit. It’s been millennia since I have last seen you in love! And then taking a stroll through my gardens, I simply had to-“

“In love?” Lucienne interrupted, her gaze wandered towards her lord. “Matthew had said you were on a date but I assumed he was simply being as ill-mannered as always.”

“Both of you, calm down!” Dream called. If he were anyone else he would already feel a headache forming.

“But my lord!” Fidler’s Green protested. “I simply wished to congratulate you! And a nice looking one you got yourself there. He seemed quite gone for you too.” He chuckled.

“That is quite enough, Fidler’s Green.” He allowed a small nod at the dream. “I thank you. But you would be of more help to me if you returned to your duties.”

“Ohh, well, yes of course.” Fidler’s Green said, patting down his body and placing the bowler hat back on his head. “Do visit again, my lord. I so enjoy seeing you happy.” With these parting words, Filder’s Green rightened himself and spread his arms, a whirlwind of leaves and flowers engulfing him and vanishing up into the air in moments.

“May I ask, my lord?” Lucienne began, moments having passed in silence since Fidler’s Green had vanished once again.

“What, Lucienne?” Dream asked, already regretting his words.

“Who is it?”

Dream cast a look at her, she cast her best innocent look at him, head tilted to the side and smile pulling at her lips. Dream closed his eyes, hoping he wasn’t making a grave mistake.

“His name is Hob. Hob Gadling.”
